Another Blown $$$ Opportunity
Chicago missed the casino boat a long time ago. Then the River North Casino has turned into a boondoggle of construction delays and missed revenue projections while the suburban Rivers Casino turned into the #1 casino in the state that prints money for Des Plaines.
Now it's going to turn into a lawsuit that Conehead's people will likely lose:
Bally's casino is warning Chicago aldermen it will sue the city if the City Council does not reverse its decision to legalize video gambling terminals in bars and convenience stores — and the company is offering a deal it says would replace the revenue the city was counting on.
At a committee hearing, Bally's senior vice president reminded aldermen that a 2022 agreement struck by the Lightfoot administration gave the company a monopoly on virtual slot machines within Chicago city limits. Legalizing video gambling terminals, known as VGTs, outside Bally's property would render that contract null and void, the company said.
The City Council approved legalizing VGTs as part of its late 2025 budget.
If the contract is voided, Bally's said it would halt its annual $4 million licensing payments to the city and would no longer honor its commitments to diversity and union hiring.
Chicago politicians could f#@$ up a one-car funeral.

It’s all going according to plan. The casino doesn’t know they have to give the politicians money towards their campaigns and things will move along a lot quicker.
If there's an upside, the city was just going to blow all that money on BS projects, illegal immigrants, internal theft, and DEI silliness anyway, and still be broke. Not a dime of that money would have gone to plug budget holes, let alone meet legal responsibilities such as funding pensions.
I'm sure ballys would love to get rid of the DEI obligation. They've been spending an inordinate amount of time trying to hire qualified people of diverse lineage to fill positions. Meanwhile people who sent resumes that are more than qualified are being payed over.
Kinda related: Anyone know why the Cumberland Professional Center off of Cumberland and Lawrence is always so crowded with very high-end vehicles? Place just happens to contain a Bella's with video gaming and pretty much no other businesses that would warrant that kind of heavy traffic, wink, wink.
BJ is about to get kicked right in the balls, O'Hares 1.8 billion dollar expansion project is facing a slew of racial discrimination law suits. The contractor in-charge of the projects is facing severally law suits ( and maybe more once others learn they can sue) for racial discrimination and bullying in the work place. Several BLACK MEN are filing suits ,others have retained lawyers over the way they are being treated .No raises no promotions and other people getting credit for their work. This may be the one thing tats sends old BJ to the Nut House.
bwahahahahahaha
get the popcorn., make sure the 50# sack is ready!
I hope Bally's eliminates DEI hiring and union employees. Both are bad for the people. Hire unqualified and can't fire bad employees is a guarantee to lose!
Socialists don’t care care about rules, agreements, contracts, etc. Look how many this clown has violated without repercussions. You should have a thread on how dangerous the far left socialists are to us. They are more dangerous than the criminals we deal with everyday.
Politicians MUST benefit from any deal...its the Chicago way...money talks!
Video poker machines could get our pension up to snuff , but we all know what kind of thieves are doubling as politicians.
What?? BJ has balls??? Now thats BIG news.
What does BJ care...Its not his money and he knows hes out of here in 8-9 months. Lawsuits take forever and hell just kick the can down to the next administration.
" annual $4 million licensing payments" and the fools still go to said casino's "to win"
I always thought it was Blossom's restaurant.
Ya, ok, I think they are being treated exactley like they should be , lazy mfers
Anyone who goes gaming in a bar or restaurant is a dumbfuck. The paytables are horrible, go to a casino, at least you have a little chance of winning
Comparing DEI to union employees? Nice.
They sure enough couldnt hurt. Rather than sit back and “hope” to get in on that money, it would be nice to see some outside the box creativity. Have the pension fund(s) be the actual VGT owners.
Daley did not want a " tiny boat" for gambling and he blew the best chance for Chicago to get a jump start on this. Daley caused tremendous harm to this city in just about every financial aspect. But, it is about time any set asides or racial quotas for government jobs or contracts be eliminated. This is just racism in another form.
"Commitment to diversity and union hiring"... code for kick backs. $$$. It's all legit, nothing to see here.
“Several BLACK MEN are filing suits“ wow, it must be true then.
Not true, money generated are earmarked for pensions. I know fire is in the language, and CPS tried to grab a chunk at the last minute while drafting legislation but got frozen out. Don't know if police get any but think they do.
The city is already trying to make the case that gambling $ alone would go to pensions but extras like food and beverage will go to them.
The city has no juice in Springfield with this moron in charge, so attempts to change current law as drafted are going nowhere.
Bally's will also set up slots at MDW and ORD too.
You people at FOP really need to get better lobbyists if your rank and file aren't keeping you aware of important legislation like this
you mean the city went through all that money from the parking meter deal?
Video gambling in every Chicago bar, restaurant, coffee shops, airports, convention centers would surely get the CPD pension at 100% within 5 years.
1st end gold braid pension system on CPD. Privatization of garbage collection, changing street lights, street cleaning would save Chicago taxpayers money .
The DSA want radical changes to America and the MSM is part of their team.

Saw a news clip yesterday that stated the parking meter revenue (current price 2.54 billion to buy back) would be used to fund pensions. Question: If the City has 2.54 billion to spend, couldn't they just put that money into the pensions?
if these idiots were smart install them at ohare airport
There is a restaurant/take out fish shop in Mokena that has 5 video poker machines on its property. I spoke with owner and he related that the 5 poker machines pay for his rent, utilities, and insurance. The restaurant is only open for 10 hours a day, six days a week. Think about that for a minute. How much money does 5 poker machines take in for the State and City? Hello Chicago
They should have let the lottery in 10 years ago. The fake machines are making money hand over fist in every gas station and tavern already.
The city does not have the money to buy the parking meters back. It would have to borrow it at probably a high interest rate and the loan may not be paid back for decades. What security would the lending party want for that loan? Pledge the airports? Water plants? First claim on tax revenue? The interest cost alone could make the parking meters a break even investment at best, or it could be a money looser. Second issue is why are the parking meters up for sale? Does the investment banking community see long term problems with continued ownership?
There's a cappuccino place on Harlem, off of Belmont that used to become suspiciously crowded during college basketball finals.
Sorry! Cappuccino place on Harlem, off of Addison! "Gambling going on here? Outrageous!"
100%. They would make big $$$$$$
Don't kid yourself, Bally's has been in business for decades, including Vegas. They know how to drop "the bag". This is the city's way to have Bally's add to "the bag". It's never enough.
Yea bullshit...Just like the casinos were supposed to help fund our pensions, has that happened yet? City has their hands in everything.
Ballys will end up losing on this no matter what. the city (state, County) is about 20 years too late in approving a casino. They should have just called it after using the temporary space but hey, I'm sure this will just end up a huge write off for the losses they'll incur. It'll be a total bust from day one.
