CTA Special Going Away?
It seems the sheriffs are having an outsized impact on crime numbers and CTA Special Employment is on the chopping block.
It is also rumored that there are discussions about getting rid of Mass Transit altogether and just letting Dart run a new Mass Transit Police Force under Prickwrinkle's patronage army.
The arrest and citation numbers for CPD's part are pretty much abysmal and the level of spending can't be justified any longer.

If Mass Transit is done away with, who will bring in countless pre-trial release arrests for glorified turnstile jumping? I mean, that is the Mass Transit's Tact Teams' bread and butter. They catch and release a half dozen people, then spend their tours typing up reports with no physical being in custody. How could that be a waste of time? It for sure has to stop crime on the CTA. I bet people are finally paying their fares because of the pre-trial arrest dedication.
They really do make our people look silly. That and darts grip on the media, it was only a matter of time before the gig was up.
Dump the rookies to the street, stop the brain drain and keep some of the oldtimers around. No respect for senority because some of them get good without it. Tact gone. Tact needed on watch. Some think they wear a uniform that doesnt say Chicago on it and wont help out. What goes around comes around. Paint all the tact cars blue and white. Repaint all squad cars with the blue horzontal line and no checkboard b.s. Caps downsized. District "senior" officer eliminated. All desk by bid and fill ins by seniority. Sdsc by bid and same with fill ins that are trained. Lower management to 5 percent. Ill even suggest a different hat but a trucker dark blue with the CPD arm patch on the front. People would know right away who they are dealing with. Use all squad cars in the lot. Have beat cars split into 2 squads and respond together. One can answer as a adam car but in tandem. The public will see "more" police. Take trouble elsewhere. Real wagons no bs vans. Cant fit anyone in them to properly seatbelt. Just some thoughts.

Prepare my bid paperwork for what exactly? 003, 006, 007, 010, 011, or 015? Honestly, every single district in this city is done. There all ghetto now. Those are the only options. Calling that a career path is laughable. At this point, they can dump me. I’ll take medical for 11 months, roll into recurring IOD for another 11 months, and spend that time finding and being hired by a career with an actual future instead of rotting away in a department that mistakes survival for success. The saddest part is watching people convince themselves this is normal. Almost everyone admits they’re quietly quitting, counting the days until retirement, or searching for an exit while doing the bare minimum to get through another day. If that’s what passes for a career, I’ll pass. A place where nearly everyone is trying to escape isn’t a profession, it’s a damn warning. Good luck to anyone who thinks this dept, city and life is sustainable or normal. It isn’t, and eventually it’s all going to catch up with anyone not paying attention.

I can’t remember the last time I saw CPD on the train. What do they do– grab a bum for a misdemeanor and be gone for the entire tour?

Mass ransit is useless, send them back to the district and actually do some work. For far too long this unit has been getting away with doing nothing and CTA overtime is even a bigger joke.

I have a nice cushy spot in mass transit. I get an early duck two times a week.
Mass Transit isn’t going away. It will be revamped.
I doubt Mass Transit would be completely eliminated. They have a D unit there that works on the cases day and night. They aren't going anywhere. I could see a massive cut to the rest of the unit. The Officers do very little and don't generate any activity. Chicago Police Officers are going to wake up very soon and realize they have no one but themselves to blame for their unit being eliminated. CPD has the laziest and most entitled so called police officers in Illinois. Far too many officers think because they have a patch and star that says Chicago that they are the real police. These officers in units that do very little or ride a team members coat tails are going to be in for a very rude awakening soon. The districts are doing more work than them and they work nights and weekends. Technology is about to catch up with them when the CPD phones they carry have a punch in and punch out added which geo codes where it was done from.
So the Sheriff is no longer responsible for policing unincorporated Cook County?

New mass transit bill gives authority to Cook county sheriff for law enforcement activities. Mass transit unit has been useless for at least a decade or two. The only reason Prickwinkle and Dart are willing to take it on is that they need more spots to dole out patronage to. The airport units are as worthless as mass transit. Everyone knows it. Let Cook county have them as well.
You can play the game that is offered to you (drink the cool aid) or you can implement this life hack, be a master of your own game Finance your house for 15 years and pay it off sooner. Drive a 4 cylinder Japanese car; it will probably last you for over 20 years. That is enough for your to retire with a pension. You do not need a $1,000 car payment, because you are not impressing anyone; we know how much money you make. After you retire, sell your house that you only made the required repairs on (no fancy upgrades) for over double of what you paid for. And sell it “as is.”
Here is a bonus professional tip; earn a useful degree from a legitimate school. It is a beautiful thing, because the city will pay for it. As of right now, some of you do not have the skills required to write a decent resume. Now, you are running with the best.
Do not let this job have an iron clad leash on you. If you let that happen, then you will be working until the mandatory retirement age and making pension payments so that the early retirees can get paid.
And the best type of revenge on your yokel acquaintances is living better than they do, especially the dispatchers; you can have your second house in a great neighborhood acquired well before you retire. The only thing the department is doing is beefing up the MASS transit unit and going to start cutting spots on special to offset it come fall / winter. The issue with CTA OT is that they stopped wanting activity. They just wanted 12 checks and your presence. And they did away with the 2 plainclothes shifts and put them in uniform. There went the activity. Fuck the incompetent supervisors that made the change!

When I saw all the old timers going to mass transit and all the old timers doing mass transit overtime, I knew it was a racket. They are most likely never on the trains and never leave their cars. You all do it to yourself, trash loser dogs always ruin things, but are never embarrassed, they always have some excuse or something to say. You all wouldn't be hired to be janitors in the private sector.
You can make northside districts with 3-5 years. I'm talking the golden districts, 14, 20, 24, 17. You only need 5 years, sometimes even 3 to get in on bid. If you are still in a ghetto district, its because you're too lazy to bid out.

I work in the court section and it seems like Dets in Mass Transit have been identifying more suspects than ever, not sure what's their secret.

The money the city gets is from the Feds. Issue is the Mass transit doesn't have enough officers to cover trains, busses. The city has been squirreling away the money given from the Feds and not properly manning the CTA. Hence how more hiring for special took place. It's not going anywhere.

As someone who’s been thru both academies cpd and ccspd…don’t ask, long story…the sheriffs police are better trained, equipped and better at dealing with people than cpd. Your academy is a 6 month high school session with a little bit of yelling. Ccspd is 3.5 months of getting your nuts kicked in as they and most suburbs work solo

Look guy, I have 23 years on. They had pre-printed sheets you asked for your partner and your assignment. The assignment didn't matter, that was determined by your Sgt., who would either have the north or south side. Sgt. Parker would take most of the black officers and Sgt Moreno would take the most of the white and hispanic officers. You were probably too dim to figure it out and too much of a hand job to ask.

Most CPD on the detail do nothing and get punked by these clowns. Couldn't tell you a single cta violation if they needed to. County actually locking people up shows to be effective. if it's a State Police Agency the new department will receive same benefits . If you lateral from CPD or CCSP or Suburban departments I think you can transfer years of service into State Police Pension Fund..

As it should be; Leo would be proud! The CCSP have definitely
made an impact that the CPD has been unwilling to regarding
its mass transit unit for many years. I don't think much of Dart
as the Sheriff (and I hope someone can run against him in the
next election and send him out to pasture), but the Sheriffs have
been a great asset to crime fighting in Chicago, doing the job
on the trains that the CPD simply won't do.
Have you met CPD academy staff??? They are the best. Just ask them. No time on the job and those who worked the streets for a few years did absolutely nothing but had a phone call
