Suspect Wounded
A suspect is recovering in the hospital on Saturday after he was shot during a struggle with officers who were working to disperse a crowd on the city’s South Side overnight.
Officers said the incident unfolded around 12:32 a.m. in the 5300 block of South Princeton Avenue, in Fuller Park.
[...] As officers worked to control the crowd, they say they saw a man who had a firearm and tried to stop him. A brief struggle ensued between the officers and the suspect, however.Amid the struggle, police said the suspect’s gun went off, striking him in the leg. Officers immediately called for an ambulance and rendered aid to the suspect at the scene.
We guess that's one way to avoid the thirty days of desk duty - make sure he wounds himself.
But also, if you see a gun, it's probably easier to shoot the gunman from a distance from behind cover.

It could be whoever the reporter or reporters spoke to in CPD got the story wrong. Which seems to happen on a regular basis.
COPA will investigate and determine that the officers failed to initiate de-escalation. It’s simply the nature of the scorpion.

I agree. We didn’t do that shit when I was active and I’d probably get fired today for not doing it. I see these videos of coppers nationwide trying to save the life of a guy who they shot because he just tried to kill them. Fuck that. Call Fire and wait. If he dies, he dies. Fuck em.

Missing a lot of context here. The suspect is also a police officer, who was legally carrying his gun.
Would have been sweeter if he took one in the banana or the pumpkin patch.

No more standing around smoking cigarettes until bambulance shows up and shithead bleeds out in the meantime. These days we're tasked with doing the job of policemen, surgeons, combat medics, etc etc. It's a trickbag no matter what we do. Shoot and "disable" the offender then merit Snelling and merit Trak provide expert witness testimony at trial and put the shooting officer in prison.
Another option is to not shoot and potentially be killed or maimed. There's just no winning for the average beat officer anymore.
