And Speaking of Rats....

Rodent problems up north in 020:

  • Officers at a Chicago police district say overgrown brush and delayed maintenance have led to a rat infestation outside their station, prompting concerns about conditions and city response.

There's a video report at the link. Or try this one.

Obviously, Conehead is cutting the exterior maintenance budgets and also interior services as there is an Officer saying they don't even have janitors three days a week to empty trash cans and make sure the buildings are cleaned - because Officers never ever bring filthy dirty bedbug infested arrestees into police stations.

If we recall, that was reserved for the filthy dirty ILLEGAL ALIENS sleeping in lobbies for weeks and months at a time.

the loss of a solid cleaning staff makes you realize what awful slobs we can be... as they say the policeman is his own worst enemy.
guys will take the keys from radio room, head to their car assigned, and proceed to grab whatever shit was left in the car- and throw it right between that car and the one next to it. Why? Because he's annoyed by the guy who left all that garbage in there instead of cleaning it out before he just turned in the keys.
In the station, in the hallways, the locker room, the toilet stalls, the urinals... no different.

Worked in 020 when the new building was constructed. The foliage looked ok for a few years but was never maintained or watered so a lot of it died. It looked terrible. Never saw any rats, (except for prisoner), there really was nowhere for them to hide. I would suspect most of the overgrowth is weeds and when the illegal aliens were the house guests they were eating outside they started the rat population with their discarded food.
During Covid I had the unfortunate occasion to go into 016 to make a report and saw all of those people in the station and in front eating like it was the 3rd world. Can’t believe what the coppers had to put up with.

The majority of taxes collected go for salaries, benefits and pensions. Very little left over for actual infrastructure and public services.

Stop complaining. In the Deuce, the cockroaches changed in the locker room beside us and the rats were big enough to attend roll call. They weren't assigned beats, but they were uniform inspected.

I remember 25 years Ago while working in 007, a P.O. left chicken bone on the floor of the squad car, the PDT keyboard was covered in BBQ sauce. You would think that he would have pulled up to a garbage can in any alley and threw out the bones, and wipe down the keyboard but no. When it was pointed out to our Sgt he simply replied he could NOT do anything, the slob PO was an M/1 and was told by the commander that the black PO's were NOT to be messed with. yep!!!!

Get some weed killer and kill it all, including the bushes. Gravel can go down. Honestly the exempts should do it. As manager I always organized work days or did it myself. I swear city workers are the biggest bunch of pussies I've ever heard of.

The biggest rats I ever saw in this city were behind the old Police Headquarters at 1121 S. State. They looked like young capybara's.

Years ago, when I worked inside at Summer Mobile, every district had to send us one car. They sent the worst cars that they had. Junk heaps, no brakes, broken windshields, NO AIR CONDITIONING. The smart kids got to work early to try to get a good car, since no cars were assigned. Any car with A/C was a good car. One night the guys that took out a good car returned it for another. We asked why and were told there was a rat in it. We thought they were goofing around and we put the keys back in the box. Next day a couple of other officers took it and came back and said something was in the car. They were happy to take a car with no A/C. We didn't want to down it since it was one of the few with working A/C and we knew it wouldn't come back. Word spread about the car and it sat unused the rest of the summer. The Rat won in the end. The Rat was victorious...

I heard city is getting ready to get rid of the smaller trash cans by your desk and put in large trash cans in different spots. It is because the city does not want to buy the small liners for those cans anymore.

You want cops to go and kill the bushes? Not just the weeds, but the bushes? That’s a fast track to a charge for felony criminal damage to city property. Find yourself on court supervision and fired in short order. This isn’t the private sector where you can do things logically and efficiently, this is the government, and we are police in a city where the politicians describe us as the “KKK” and a “sickness that needs to be eradicated”. They’re all waiting for any reason at all to criminally charge us. And bushes are expensive, kill a few of them you easily clear the felony threshold. So, no, we aren’t pussies, we just know how this game works. Maybe demand the city maintain their property where their employees work instead of blaming the employees for the employer not maintaining a sanitary work space. Dork.

I worked there first watch in the late 90's. Going to get a car in the south lot was always an interesting walk. Rats everywhere in the alley and parking lot. The second floor, the old cc room, had mice that would come out and you could see them scurrying across the floor.
