If you’re shopping this weekend, you will be paying a little more in sales tax.
Beginning Saturday, sales tax across the city of Chicago and five collar counties will increase. It’s no secret that living in certain parts of Illinois, things can add up fast. And the state’s tax hike story continues.
“It’s kind of gut-wrenching, I think that is going to affect things, and it’s really hard, it’s egregious, actually,” said Sara Plocker, owner of local boutique Sara Jane.
The business owner referenced Senate Bill 2111, which passed in Springfield last October. The bill raises the sales tax from 10.25% to 10.50%.
Still amazing how no one in government thinks of cost cutting, but goes right to the taxpayer wallets, and then claim that Trump is making it harder on working families to afford living here.....just like in New York and California, too.

Indiana has a sales tax of 7% statewide, and is a quicker drive from my house than the northside.
Arkansas just cut state taxes by 25% and all sales taxes on food. There's no way out of the mess in illinois.

"Blue State Blues"... Retired and moved to Texas right before Covid. Bought a newly built home west of Houston. Thanks to our manufactured crises my homes value almost doubled leading my taxes to shoot up. Governor GREG ABBOT noticed this, without anyone demonstrating, sign waving, or yelling and screaming in the streets and stopped the raising of taxes for those that bought before Covid. Stopped local government from raising our property taxes...
