Forty-Four Applicants
Forty-four people applied to lead the Chicago Police Department, the president of the commission charged with picking CPD’s next top cop said Monday.
In 2023, the last time Chicago needed a new chief law enforcement officer, 53 people applied for the job. In 2020, 23 people applied to lead the police department, records show.
Applicants include current and former members of the Chicago Police Department, as well as candidates from outside of CPD, according to a statement from the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability.

The commission has until Nov. 12 to recommend three finalists to Johnson, who is running for reelection. Election Day is Feb. 23.The mayor will then have 30 days to choose a superintendent or ask for another slate of options before asking the Chicago City Council to confirm his choice.
So Conehead will have some say in the future Supe....who may only serve a few months before being fired by a new mayor? Makes perfect sense.
If we hear anything about the actual applicants, by name or by qualification, we'll let you know. Unknown if JCat actually put his name in or he just removed the FOP from having any sort of input into the process.

Man, for the last three years I am so glad I went on disability after my disabling injury. My first 7 years I did everything to come back to work, but no doctor would clear me. Out of 10 years, my last 3 I've come to realize getting injured was a blessing, so I don't have to deal with the 95% of ignorant people on this job. I think it definitely has to be another person of color. That is the only fair thing to do to ensure social justice. And that person's background should be mostly in administrative positions or physical education. That is the only type of leadership a police department needs. We don't need or want someone with practical experience working the street and understanding what strategies work to reduce crime. NO, we need a Superintendent who reflects the community that it serves. The new sup needs to have had all merit promotions, can effectively rehash old strategies that never worked but was able to come up with a great new name. My favorite was putting cops in a geographic box that they couldn't leave. That's a tried an true favorite of the DEI clan. So let us embrace the next superintendent, but only if its a person of color. Or an illegal would be very inclusive also.

Garry McCarthy is responsible for this chain reaction that ultimately lead to the death of CPD. He decided to bring in his, broken window, NY/NJ style of policing here. Which on paper why not. But he disbanded successful units, closed areas, implemented a new chain of command and practically renamed everything. He ruled with an iron fist and demanded quantity over quality, meaning quotas. He implemented Comstat and is responsible for the Consent Decree along with the toadies he promoted. His and Rahm’s mishandling of the JVD shooting opened the floodgates, leading us to this point in time. Had they had the balls to address that shooting immediately after, they’d still be employed. He destroyed this Department. Not intentionally, shit we could be the Police when he was in charge. I don’t hate the guy, but he grabbed the hammer and nail that eventually sealed the coffin for CPD. Make sure to catch his rosey red face on his Fox 32 segment where he try’s to stay relevant.
CPD will be sold just like the meters were.... watch BJ will do it, especially if he wins again.

I think Jill Stevens should be the next Sup. With her vast street experience and solid record of accomplishments. Her superior decision making ability makes her a top candidate. Recently she told 800 to declare a Swat incident because they caught someone coming out of a sewer. The guy said he was looking for valuables that get swept into the sewer. So, due to the extremely high threat level presented she made him call swat. Bravo, Bravo, daddy Stevens, needs his ass kicked.

Recently retired, started in 1994. Gary McCarthy was the best Superintendent CPD ever had by a country mile. He closed districts and cut the manpower to useless clout baby units. He made the cowards in the Commander role do something. He let districts and patrol officers be the police. Unfortunately CPD has so many lazy cowards in uniform that nothing gets done. EJ went back to the old way of patrol just passing everything off so they can get back to blowing off jobs. McCarthy was out in the field (I give the gym instructor credit for that). CPD needs a leader who has done something in the field in the last 5 years.

Best Outsiders CPD ever had O.W.Wilson , he brought CPD into the modern era of Policing. Charlie Beck , he put an end to Merit. He couldn't believe the incompetent Command Staff.Jodi Weiss , he chased out a lot of clouted . They resigned before he could dump them. He also allowed the AR15 , bought SUV for patrol, not a bad guy. Mac , he was out there, he's a street guy . Liked the females, Ballerina screwed him by paying off the bottom feeders that came out of the woodwork. worst one Brown , he was a puppet for Lori lightfoot .
