SAFE-T Act Losing Popularity
A legislator actually spoke out against it?
A suburban teacher and volleyball coach accused of secretly recording a student could not be detained under the SAFE-T Act, and that’s a problem that needs to be fixed, an Illinois state senator and former Cook County prosecutor says.
Dagoberto Diaz, 48, a teacher at Carl Sandburg Middle School and volleyball coach at Mundelein High School, appeared in Lake County court Wednesday on a charge of unauthorized video recording of a minor. He was released under pretrial supervision after a judge determined the charge was not detainable under the SAFE-T Act.
State Sen. Darby Hills, R-Barrington Hills, said the case is alarming to her both as a mother and a former Cook County prosecutor.
“I believe any crime involving the abuse or exploitation of a child should be a detainable offense under the SAFE-T Act,” Hills told The Center Square. “Allowing someone that has exploited or abused a child to be let out back on the streets is just unacceptable.”
Oh, she's a Republican? And a mother? That makes sense.
But it does highlight the always present divide between the leftists who love and embrace criminals versus the sensible sane people who think punishment should be an option instead of hugs, kisses and actually sacrificing safety to the criminal element.
We're not as outnumber as you think, but we're certainly more apathetic. Stop voting for the crime lovers.

All accidents are preventable. Thats how they classified them for the last 10 yrs. Now they are giving 30 day suspensions for them.. You can be parked in the middle of the street and be inside attending to a patient in their home. Someone hits the parked rig and the medics will get 30 day suspension.
Going thru an inspection with light and sirens activated. Coming to a complete stop then proceeding and someone decides not to stop and go around the stopped traffic and hits the FD vehicle. That driver is automatically at fault.

No matter what she says, does or writes, it will never pass. The ferals never target their "get out of jail free card" gifting hero demrats. Thus, the demrats never experience the carnage from free ferals. The judges love setting ferals free, unless they lack pigmentation, then it's slammer time to even out the demographics, or its ejection, er election season. Governor Pork and Beans doesn't care about crime which is why he signed the NotSafe-T-Act into law. His net worth has risen by a billion dollars since taking office, about a 25% increase. That's his true passion.
A guy in rural macon county with out priors shot and killed his three cats ala Kristi Noem. He got charged and not cannot get out. The big failure is the revenue that counties no longer collect via bond........... so Counties like Champaign are wanting and not getting, tax increases to pay for it.
So, Mrs Barrington Hills is upset because of THESE types of “abuses” of a minor? But shooting, stabbing, maiming, robbing minors (or others) isn’t such a big deal to be DETAINED because it’s not happening in oh-so-special Barrington Hills? The Safe-T-Act protects NO ONE’S SAFETY!

The SAFE-T Act’s elimination of cash bail and changes to pretrial detention procedures took effect three years ago this month. Hills said the Diaz case has reinforced her belief that crimes involving the abuse or exploitation of children should be included among offenses that can support pretrial detention.

Sexual crimes against children (anyone period) should command detention but other violent crimes don’t. Very interesting.
How about we go back to the old system and set all violent crimes as automatic detention, some with bond and others with varying degrees of bond. If criminals can’t afford bond, oh well. Victims and families of victims don’t get bond from the pain and mental suffering from the willful actions of these dregs of society.
