Some damn good advice throughout the thread posted Friday. Some that we had forgotten:
- For mobile patrol, flip the child safety locks on rear doors and don't forget to test them;
- When deploying OC, gauge the wind. Also remember that the wind is affected by nearby structures and will swirl, even double back on itself. Be sure of your environment;
- If the Gas Teams come by, get the hell out of Dodge. Their purpose was to hose down a crowd and get them moving. Chances are the crowd is moving toward you and chances are they're pissed. An orderly tactical withdrawal isn't a bad idea.

i heard the order is finally coming out this Sunday regarding the do's and dont's for election day. i heard we cant wear cargo pants but have to wear the shitty thin 80/20 uniform pants. wtf!!! less pockets to put survival shit in and obviously less comfortable and less durable for the nights festivities. who thought up this brain storm? then they want you to wear a fucking tie and not an open collar or a dickie. again, what were they thinking. out of all nights you want me not only to be extremely uncomfortable but you want to give somebody a chance to use my neck tie to choke me out. more fucking idiots downtown that have absolutely no clue. somebody needs to put these idiots straight. next, they'll be telling me I have to wear our gay shiny hats that will be easily lost including the shield. that will make a great souviner for a rioter and i'll get 3 days for it from Jody. how about those shiny shoes i woar in the academy. they will look great more the media but will serve no purpose in a fight, foot chase or standing on my feet for 15+ hours. uy yuy yuy - this department is run by retards!!!!!!!

The national news service says that there will not be a winner of the election until after 0900 the day after election day. This is due to the early voting and all those ballots will have to be counted also. If this is true, i wouldnt think you will have any big problems downtown and I hope it is true. My problem is.....while all you guys are away and there is a skeleton crew back at the districts made up of probably house mice, what do I do when pookie, ray-ray, juan,saheed and the kennedy's approach my ranch with burning, looting and mahem on their mind? And on the way home from the gunshop, stop at home depot or any hardware/sporting goods place and get a pair of clear plastic "wrap around" safety glasses. The places that sell high end sunglasses have the ones with ballistic protection.
If that helmet is in the car when shit breaks out, the glasses will at least keep some OC or broken glass from getting into the eyes. Stay safe and do heads counts frequently to assure that all POs are accounted for.

I've been voting for 40 years and have known or read of many elections before that. I cannot remember or have ever read about this city, county or any state that have gone into full riot preparation for a residential election. The reason for this preparation is bullshit. The cityhall and 35th St. whores tell us "we have a bit party to prepare for" bullshit we are preparing for a Democratic racial riot. In 1968 we had a riot but it was strictly a Democratic riot. I was there and it was magnificent. I was 21 and I got a real kick out of it and we won against the Left wing Democratic party. Wednesday-- everyone IOD. Everyone that is at Grant Park goes on IOD. We can go down to the medical on buses ( because of all the parking down there). What would the midget and j-pud do if everyone they detailed to the riots went on the medical? Then there might be enough pool cars and radios if say 4,000 POs are on the medical.
If the tie is required, after roll call lose it. Once in the field I'm sure someone jostled you and you didn't notice it missing.
You can change pants too. After roll call you may have spilled coffee on your 80/20's and only had the cargo pants in the locker.
It's all a show. If HQ isn't worried about practical field gear for a potential freeforall, then sit back and watch the fun.

OK people the order is out. All the 2363 Tact teams will be in the Grant Park area with "proper" uniform of the day: 80/20 pants, round crown caps, no riot gear (kept in the bus that will bring you there from Cell Field).
The city also said that when the fills up they will turn people away. To where? The Loop? Wonderful!! That in itself may be an impetus for a riot IN THE BUSINESS DISTRICT no less! Personally, I'd rather have them in an open park so I won't have to clear any buildings after the looting begins.

Disregard what the so-called "Bulls Veteran" said about putting tape on squad car windows. Windshields are laminated glass with sheets of mylar between individual panes to prevent objects from going through it. Anyone who's ever tried to get through a windshield knows the glass will break but stay solid preventing dangerous shards from coming into the passenger compartment. Side windows and rear windows are made of safety glass which is designed to crumble into small, rounded pieces which will get all over the place, again minus the dangerously sharp pieces that plate glass leaves behind.
The shitheads NEVER thought of rocking or bricking squad car windows until WE gave them the idea with the 'smart boys' putting big X's of duct tape on the insides. Not only did they reduce visibility but they made big ass targets for the jagoffs bent on hurting us. I'm sure they saw one too many showings of Escape From New York and wanted to tell all their friends how they're the Real Police. Yeah, whatever.

Secondly, i'm going to be on a footpost for 12 hours in 007 and was told to have the riot helmet in the car. What car? In the station lot? I'm sure rayray will let me and the four of us on post (with one radio) leave and prepare before they begin their march.

12 hours is a bit long to be working on snacks alone. If you can lay your hands on an MRE or few, that would help. Especially if the problem extends itself for longer than expected.
I'm not a LEO, but I've been a grunt and got stuck in places where food was short for much longer than was easily endured. Knowing you have a meal of sorts stashed within reach helps keep morale up in such times.

Day Watch yesterday found a Fax message that stated that all officers working extended tours on Tues during the day may not be released at the end of the tour of 12 hrs. Be prepared for extended hours for crisis management. Only a exempt member: Deputy Supt. or 1st Deputy, Chief of Patrol, or PPO J-Fed will be allowed to release officers! MLAS was called and asked when the officer’s were supposed to vote. The answer was that is not the problem of the CPD, you all had the opportunity to do early voting. 20 mins later a call from Operations Command was received to destroy all copies of the fax which had not been numbered. W/C ran all over the station like a chicken w/o a head, worried that if one made it out she would not make exempt. Is the City that worried that be can’t cancel the checks little Dick Daley is writing?

No cargo pants. This is GREAT! I just found a way to work 6 hours of this detail and get payed for about 19 hours, plus a whole two weeks off. You see without cargo pants, I won't be able to keep a couple of bottles of water with me, so right about 2300 hours, just before he takes the stage, I will become week and need to be transported to Northwestern. There I will be placed on a cart, be given IV fluids and watch some hot nurses for about the next 8 or so hours. I will then have to wait for my Sgt. so I can complete my IOD paperwork. Transport back to the district and complete my yellow slip. Now, two weeks off with my feet up. See you tere!

Have a full change of clothes, even if they are sweats, at the station, also soap and towel if you have any kind of shower facilities.
If you are CS of OC contaminated, you should change from the skin out and shower. Don't bring that shit into you car and put your clothes in a trash bag and take them directly to the washing machine. Your kids could smell that stuff for a long time.

Perhaps my open-hearted optimism made my words seem to lack credibility, but I actually do live in the city. I live in Humboldt Park and have for 9 years. I also spend a lot of time in Lawndale, “K-town,” Little Village, Pilsen and the supposedly safer Wicker Park. I’m aware of city dynamics and how challenging they can be. I myself have had to look at lineups at Area 3 headquarters; I’ve listened to the moving words of Ronald Holt, whose 16-year son was slain in city violence; I’ve looked on the chairs painted in memory of slain Chicago youth and seen the pain in parents’ faces. I get it. But I am also among this populace you’re going to be policing tonight. I’m not angry. I’m not riotous. Rather, I am caring and tentative. I usually refrain from participating on any blog, but I wrote my words because there seems to be a wide police readership here and I want you to know that the people in Grant Park and downtown tonight have a very human face. Some will have destructive inclinations, but most will be happy and cooperative. A few comments here seem to share that same sentiment. (I suspect most level-heads aren’t participating in the discussion for fear of getting caught up in a flamewar, which I unwittingly did.) Among a crowd of an estimated one million, there couldn’t be but wide diversity. Please, don’t generalize your populace as anger-prone as riotous, and you’ll be less likely to be generalized yourself.
