Once Again...

This sounds so.....familiar......plastered all over the Sun Times website and broadcast over NewsRadio 780:
  • Chicago Police officers would get the retroactive pay raise Mayor Rahm Emanuel threatened to deny them after a paperwork mistake made by their ousted union president under a new contract now being finalized.

Ald. Pat O’Connor (40th), the mayor’s City Council floor leader, disclosed Wednesday that Emanuel is using the lure of retro pay to make pre-election peace with the last remaining city union still working under an expired contract.

“Our goal all along was to find a way in which we could work back toward retro pay, but in good faith get something for the citizens of Chicago to justify such a big, lump-sum payment,” said O’Connor, chairman of the City Council’s Committee on Workforce Development, which must approve the new police contract.
Of course, Fran writes how this is a "political coup" for Rahm and company - the less things like this are talked about, the better it is for Rahm. Hopefully, the FOP doesn't do anything stupid and endorse Rahm in the election next year.

I'd be very careful, this Mayor lives by sound bites and then moves on to something else. Unless we see it in writing I won't believe it.

Rahm should be very nervous, the Black Community HATES HIM. He actually will need the help of the Unions, that he completely loathes. I don't know of anyone of my neighbors that is going to vote for him in 016 and we all vote. The common belief is vote for Karen Lewis and hope she builds a coalition.

Like Obama who has gutted the military, Rahm has gutted the manpower and equipment of the C.P.D. and outwardly lies about public safety after a tragic incident. It's time for our City and Country to stand up to thugs and use Chicago as the template for change.

Get something for the citizens????

I have a novel idea. That 'something' you'd like to give to justify such a big lump sum retroactive payment? How about you put police back in the neighborhoods of those citizens that pay all the goddamn taxes that [barely] make this hellhole called "Chiraq" livable.

And then, reduce YOUR numbers by half, Aldercreature O'Connor. That'd be a terrific 'good faith' act for starters. CPD has given more than enough, it's your time to show what's possible when "everybody has to bleed". That $25+ million saved by reducing by half your unnecessary, redundant, politically-based spots sure would go a long way towards our retroactive pay, wouldn't you say?

Oh, I forgot... the police don't count as citizens in this crooked-ass city.

A few things to keep in mind for this contract and election:
1. Retro is earned- that's not a gift and rahm is not doing any favors by paying us what we've already worked for.
2. Pension obligation still stands, and the city WILL PAY in accordance to state law, or else any grant money or subsidy issued to the city will automatically go into paying that DEBT. We do not have to give anything up for this.
3. Talk all the shit you want about Karen Lewis, however, I will vote for her over rahm ANYDAY. He will not get a vote from myself, and MANY MANY other people who are completely disgusted by him.
4. FOP should not endorse ANYONE, but regardless, we all know better and will vote accordingly.

The white broad (Judas Goat) didn't know what to say but her eyes told the story. That stupid babbling idiot white broad and Eric the "Liar" both said that it is going to be a honest, fair, impartial investigation. So far the only ones that he has talked to and kissed ass on are the criminals of Furguson Not all ,just the rock throwers, fire bomb throwers and all black shit stirrers . And he says it will be fair?

What in the world is in the new contract negotiations? The paper knows more than us, the ones that pay the dues. This thing is rigged. And if Rham was not in the dumps and time for re-election yeah he would stick it to us. So, he is not doing something just for nothing. As a member, endorse anyone but, him. He stuck it to us last time and his staff took a 10% raise.

Talked to fop vp said that if you put in for 55 and out retirement before oct 2014 you are in for free health care they made deal with city after that date you will pay 2% finally something good time to leave see ya! Oh but he did not know if pension was going to be funded with. 600 million rahm owes this year, but he said we will get small retro as the younger coppers want it!

Vote no. Contract ended in 2012, this one extends five years. Too long. What do you think the cost of living will be in 2017? You will be hurting. Insist on a 2015 or 2016 end date, preferably the three year extension. Vote no to 11 percent, over five years. Go to arbitration. Nothing to lose, arbitrator will at least give is this. Vote no.

AMEN Vote No 5 years just like the parking meters deal Well be paying for it for years

Don't be jealous.

Oh...and FYI.....I'm making over $83,000 a year to sit in review. Now go and finish that domestic case report so I can kick it back for the many mistakes I'm sure you make on a daily basis.

Your "raise"per year is less than inflation. Some of you may be pushed into a higher tax bracket and of course your Union Dues will slightly increase.

Simple response to this_ Vote it down !!!! the teachers union got 16% plus they are raising taxes of which how much is going towards education- CPS? This is bullshit!! what? we need to take the offer because he says so? fuck the city , we've been without a contract for 3 years and this is the best they want to give us? why?

VOTE NO ON THIS CONTRACT,LET THEM GO back to the table and if it goes to the arbitrator so be it, but 11 %? That's a slap in the face. we're the last city union to get a contract and this is the offer they give us, i'm freacking pissed now. yeah the neeting is Tuesday so we need to go and vote down the contract offer. There isnt anything Dean can tell us that will make me believe this is the best the city will do.Remember, that we're getting taxed on cell phones and any land line that is billed to a city address. This is a raise? I don't think so.

Yeah the 9 digit midget knows he fucked up and he thinks that this will make up for it? we cant strike but the teachers did, so let send him a message which the media will put out there that we are upset with the offer and we want more ( 16% at the very least!!!) we've earned it and deserve it !!!

Rahm has quite a few other groups looking for contracts. At the City Colleges of Chicago alone, the clerical workers, security officers (composed largely of active and retired Chicago police officers) and the part-time faculty and librarians have all been negotiating for new contracts for months and years now. Unlike other units of government, the City Colleges have funds available, but would prefer to construct new buildings and award lucrative deals to their friends rather than paying employees. The district wants campus security officers to carry firearms, but does not want to indemnify them. Go figure.

OT , need 40 more to sign up for retirement by October 1 for free health . Not this guy , 58 30 years , straight days , summer furlough , all the vri I want . A ticket , Parker , field contact a day , for $100 k a year . I ain't going to retire . Rahm , raise the mandatory retirement age to 67 , I'll be here for you .

*****************

You are 100% right. I retired at 58 and now wish I had stayed a couple of more years. If you have a good spot stick with it. More deferred comp in the end. People with less than 25 years and no kids in college don't get it. There are a tremendous amount of variables involved in retirement (wife's job, kids ages, marital status, your position). No two people are the same. Anyone with 5-15 years is leaving at 20 and a day (I know, I was one of them). Reality takes effect around year 17-20. Grammar school, high school, and college tuition rule your life. In the end though, it all works out, somehow, some way. Good luck!

I remember when MINE was almost free, too - but it ISN'T anymore. Welcome to the economy.

NO ONE in the private sector has "free insurance". THAT benefit you took for granted cost the taxpayers a LOT of money in their own budget - it's about time you start paying your "fair share" for your platinum benefits package.

Don't think it's "platinum"?

Some people are paying $500-$700 a month or more - even with their employer paying a big chunk.

Better start figuring that into what you get paid overall.

If you are making $70,000 - but are NOT paying anything of significance for your healthcare a month - $50-$100 a month, tack on another $500-$600 a month minimum to your salary ($7,000- if not more) to see what you are really making in total compensation. The same goes for the pension.

Good healthcare costs a LOT of money.

Here is a guy who "gets it". We are IN a long-term depression and if you get any raise at all- BE THANKFUL.

Or, as he says - go try to get a job at Wal-Mart. See what kind of benefits you get about an hourly salary.

See how many holidays you DON'T get off. See how many benefits, you DON'T get "free". See how many benefits you don't get - period.

How about a 10% CUT to keep your job?

How about a 20% cut and LESS paid benefits to keep your salary in line with the rest of society who has tightened their belt in the last 5-10 years while you have been getting a raise - but not increasing your productivity?

Take a 20% cut and start paying $450 a month for healthcare.

You don't like it? Leave -and see what you get for what you can offer skill-wise.

Understand the negative economy. If you get a 1-2% raise, that is a hell of a lot better than a 20% cut.

Wake up. The public trough is drying up.

"She makes $228 thousand a year." Let me reiterate what I said earlier, 'SHE IS ONE OF US'. If $228 Thousand is what she makes God bless her, that is what she makes FOR HER WORK. She earned that money by standing up to the Machine. That figure is less than what Phil Cline makes, and he is retired! As for her house in Hawaii, she inherited it. Following WWII property was actually reasonably priced in Hawaii and people, many of whom were vets bought homes their cheap. Rahm whose college major was Communication and Ballet earned millions of dollars following his employment for Clinton and Obama. Rahm exploited the connections he made in D.C. while he was allegedly in Public Service. Karen Lewis was a Union Member for 20 years and now she is a Union President. She is a Working Class Hero; overcome your issues and realize the facts.

All the bitching about the raise has all you dopes ignoring what Emanuel wants you to ignore and what Angelo wants you to ignore:

Contractual language you will see in this proposal that clearly states you agree to "reopen" the wage portion of the contract if laws are passed that steal your pension.

Wake the fuck up idiots. Evacuee neither the sergeants or lieutenants had a clue what they were doing to themselves es by agreeing to and overlooking this language in their quest for gold today.

If your contract contains wage reopeners to address you getting fucked by Emanuel in pension legislation, you will lose any chance of protecting your pensions in court.

Don't be fucking idiots, demand all reopeners involving pensions be removed from your contract unless you WANT to agree to having your only recourse for the violation of your pension rights be dealing with mr shithead when he has his buddies write new laws to fuck you OUT of your pension.

They're not "GIVING" you anything. The retro checks are based on simple math. The only thing that controls the size of your retro check is the amount of the raise you receive vs. the time you worked without receiving it. If it was a "BIG" retro check, it's because you got a "BIG" raise over more time that you didn't receive. Now go back to banging your head off the wall and rolling around in your poo.

Idiot. How about the 4% raise from their previous contract tgat was cancelled due to economic distress. Plus teachers work a longer day for no extra pay. Not to mention their seniority or tenure means nothing now. All they have to do is lower your efficiency rating. (Which the seem to do with the highest paid - tenured teachers ) and your gone - they hire young robot teachers fresh out of college. Karen Lewis looked good on Tv. But at the end of the day. Teachers got a worse deal than both cops and fireman.
