The new detectives can start out on the story The Trib's Breaking News is reporting that up to a six-hitter happened on The South Side. So much for the Christmas Spirit.

To the hater bitching about the Dillon girls, the one from 014 scored under 10. Studied her ass off and did really well (regardless of who her parents are) actually can happen if you put the effort in. At least she was legit not like the merit picks who stole others' spots.

My daughter went to grammar school with the Dillon girls and they are close friends. They have been at the top of their class in all levels of school including college. They finished #3 and #7 on the detective list. They earned their promotions legitimately and through hard work. The haters and complainers need to sit this one out...

Assuming the full 20% merit for dicks, that would make 108 off the list. If multiple people decide to pass on the job for whatever reason, would they backfill the spots with 109, 110 etc - or just end up with a smaller class?

Congratulations to all of you who made it based on score. To the merit picks I'm sure there are some very well deserving officers who should get it. There are also some officers who don't deserve it. The ones that say things like, "Days is for getting my errands done." Or the ones who leave early when there's no sargeant. Or those guys who are so self absorbed and only think about themselves. Those guys don't deserve this spot and they took it away from good police officers who would an outstanding job. But this why this city is going to hell. The most murders in decades, an increase in crime in areas that were traditionally safe havens, and the complete incompetence of the command staff just goes to show the direction of this department.

We need as many as soon as possible so many shot, so many murdered over Christmas weekend! Mostly black on black and the black lies murder movement is going full steam ahead! But on the plus side Trump gets to fill over 100 judicial appointments:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-to-inherit-more-than-100-court-vacancies-plans-to-reshape-judiciary/2016/12/25/d190dd18-c928-11e6-85b5-76616a33048d_story.html?utm_term=.8ac23524eca6

Hopefully all will be constitutionalism type people! It is totally amazing how this democratic run city can disregard so many lives, and even more troubling Christmas the most holy day, how many churches in the black areas? Probably more than enough to have 1 pastor on every block yet all this criminal behavior! Gee wonder why? Could it be crime and zero punishment thanks to empty head toni and toupee dart? Keep letting them run free, the more mayhem and murder ensues! And the people don't march against this at city hall, and drag them out of their cozy taxpayers paid offices and throw them all out! Christmas is a time of renewal time to take out the trash! Jeff Sessions new DOJ boss will be removing refuse from city hall as soon as he gets the office watch how quickly he works the bullshit is over!

If you live beyond your means and crave overtime, don't want to be home with your family, and are still in love with police work then Detective is the job for you. It's not the greatest job in the department as you'll be told a hundred times during your training.

Obviously you're not in the D...

I've been in the D for +20 years and I can't think of a time we looked at the list and said, "oh, these are the merit names".
We don't care- the adults work here. If you made it congratulations. Show up, train with one of us, do your job, ask questions, and everything will be okay.

The D is the last example of adulthood. We take care of each other. We look out for the old guys really to pull the pin and we look out for the new guys still figuring everything out. Pay no attention to the moron that posted the above post- it doesn't matter who you are or how you got here. When you walk into the area on day one- it's a fresh start.

Good luck and don't be afraid to show up with bakery donuts, we are easily bribed!

When the sergeant's test came out, I did not study hard. I believed what everyone was telling me: don't study kid, it ain't worth it, the insiders have all of the answers, etc.

Then when the test came and I saw how people who I personally knew and studied hard made it, I decided the next time a promotional test comes out for sergeant or detective, I will study hard. When the test came out for the detective test, I studied by butt off. When the next exam comes, if you want it, then study for it and that promotion you are wanting is sitting right on the table.

To the merits

We welcome you to the AREA's

But you will quickly learn that merits spot are thin to hide you.
You will need to buy lunches and dinner to people who actually know how to investigate a crime.
Your first few months you will have to figure out where to sit. You have NO desk.
You will need to actually be certified in LEADS too since you have not ran a name in a few years.
Brush up on taking notes the days of the 3 line reports are done.

And avoid running to grab a squad car as soon as you walk in those go to the HOMICIDE guys. Also your old district partners really don't care that you are wearing a tacky suit and driving a beat up unmarked.
Please all you mom types avoid crying about working overtime or that you baby needs you. The commander only has so many desk spots.

And for the do nothing types that skated by on the dicks test, time to learn that you are paid extremely well and will be told to handle cases. Beat officers will give you messes and sergeants will have blank looks on their face on crime scenes.

So welcome to a new career. Special Ed will launch you in a heart beat if you type the wrong word on a report.

Some are content having as little commitment to this job as humanly possible since this job has taken such a nose dive.

This job and city are sinking faster than the bow section of Titanic plummeting 13,000 feet to the floor of the Atlantic.

In any case, congrats, new dics. Looking forward to the next time I have to make a notification on some stupid case and get answered with snarky sarcasm, condescension, and hostility from whoever is on the other end of the line.

Mama Dillon to the rescue??? First off mom we know how you have been so well taken care of in your time on the department. We all know how you get after a few drinks. From my own past expieriences I also see those same behaviors have been passed down to your daughter from 050 but I'll leave that right here and not get personal. Let's talk about hard work shall we. First you don't know what hard work is.. well at least when it comes to police work, otherwise your an expert at making sure what you want you get by ANY means necessary. Second you once again took care of your useless son in law Dave F. Was never the real police. Was a complete dog in 014 then gets in the first Sgt class. Dumb as a box of rocks. Then you get son in law sent directly to 020 right out of the sgts school... a nice landing spot. You realize how much of a slap in the face that is to sgts with time on?? Guys who have a lot of time on as a Sgt and are stuck in shit holes or stuck south and you get your little son in law a nice spot as a brand new Sgt in 020 while other guys have to rot in cesspool districts. Class act. Yep, work hard gets you places but it just so happens your whole family works really hard like your daughter and end up at O'Hare with 3 minutes on the job. Once again, coppers with 25 years are still pushing beat cars because they can't get to the airport yet but your daughter with less than 5 years on gets hidden at ohare. then son in law Sgt with 8 years on in the first Sgt class and sent right to 020 and the other one in a Cush spot not to mention mommy landing soft all the time.. A Dillon preaching about hard work??? Please, don't insult people on this job who really work hard. Let's get some odds here. What do you wanna bet that Jamie ends up as a dic in area north right out of the academy??? Once again, do you know how many dics are stuck central and south who are north siders and are dying to get to area north?? Not little Jamie though, she will continue to land soft... let's also make another bet, she ends up in svu, youth or some other spot answering phones after just a short time there. No Chance she is humping shootings, murders and rbt jobs. I guess only time will tell or she will be made Sgt first. I happen to know Jamie is too high on the sgts list to get made so if we see a promotion for her it's once again mommy cashing in those favors. The name Dillon/fallardeau should never be used with the term hard work because it just makes no sense at all. Jealous people? Nah, I've been promoted twice by scores and have had to work in hell holes the whole time. I got enough time to get to better spots, that's how it goes. Put in your time to get rewarded. The Dillon way is to just bat your eyes at the boys and get taken care of. Your daughters should be embarrassed to have no time on and continue to get to good places with no time on the job. Rant off, but it's something most of the department thinks about your family and how they thumb their noses at the rest of the hard working people in this department, don't you dare say how they are such "hard workers" when they are so taken care of since day one.

With regards to the Dillon girls. What you have to understand is when you are given the reading and study material for a test, it amounts to basically the size of two phone books. With the Dillon girls and those who are the chosen ones, they are told what material to study. That is a huge advantage. Instead of studying two phones books, you memorize a small binder. . There are several people who made lieutenant because Jan Robarts Dillon was a subject matter expert then had her friends who were sergeants study the material that would be on the test. Again they studied a small binder while everyone else had to study two pnone books worth of material. It's not right but it's not going to change anytime soon. At this point we have the Superintendent involved in a lieutenant test cheating scandal. What happened to him and those who cheated? Absolutely nothing.

Hey Mister "The D is the last example of adulthood" go fuck yourself, many of you fucking premadonas couldn't solve a case even if you had all the facts/info put together. I've been on for 29 yrs. and let me tell you something, the blue shirts are still the backbone of this department without the amount of info that they gather for you goofs/dicks, you couldn't solve shit. Many blue shirts don't have the luxury or time to study and get promoted, many don't have clout either or positions in the department like headquarters, academy, etc. to study. I've run into many outstanding blue shirts in my time that were extremely street smart but unfortunately are poor test takers. The powers to be are trying to dismantle the police in CPD, we got to stick together and beat these asshole so called leaders. At the end we all retire as police officers, God bless and Happy Holidays, stay safe brothers and sisters in blue.........

Regarding the Dillon girls: both of them studied their asses off for the sergeants test. One of them is on the bubble, may get promoted in the last class off the list. The other is not going to make it. So, my question is: what happened there? Why didn't they get the answers? You people that spend all your time knocking down others need to shut the hell up. You don't need to like the people that get promoted but don't accuse them of cheating without a single shred of evidence.

Don't get me wrong, you'll be treated like an adult and there are a few perks, but you will work your ass off like no other job on the department. You are going to sacrifice time away from your family and you are going to sacrifice your health to some degree due to long hours and plenty of stress. Also, if you don't know how to type, I suggest you learn ASAP because you're going to be typing reports until your fingers bleed, your eyes pop out, and your ass turns to leather.

12/26/2016 11:56:00 AM

You've been watching too many TV detective shows. Stop with the drama. Almost all of the above is wrong. There are a lot of competent detectives that will help you out. You usually are treated as an adult by the bosses and they generally will defer to your expertise. You are going to like it.

12/26/2016 06:54:00 PM

I've run into many outstanding blue shirts in my time that were extremely street smart but unfortunately are poor test takers. The powers to be are trying to dismantle the police in CPD, we got to stick together and beat these asshole so called leaders. At the end we all retire as police officers, God bless and Happy Holidays, stay safe brothers and sisters in blue.........

The above posts show why beat cops don't vote for dicks in fop elections. Dicks are one way a-holes.

to all you Dillon talkers here is the real deal, I work in 016 and have run into the Dillon girls a few time. papa Dillon wasnt bad and mama Dillon who has big clout was not bad to work for either now keep in mind I always did my job but unless you had wack(clout) she wouldn't do jack for you, jan dillon and hard work , mama Dillon wouldnt know what hard was even if you put an express sign up reading "hard work" next to her home in 016. as far as the daughter total niwits but clouted , a few domestics with one of them until she divorce the goof and married brian , but as always justice prevails, congrats to the Dillon girls on their promotion and if you are like me a worker an a vet its 9161 baby

It's all legit right?!??

It's certainly all fucked up because we know what this city and dept are truly capable of when it comes to fake ass promotional tests. They can't even find it in themselves to investigate the recent cheating LT test, which was beyond fucked up and in everyone's face. There wasn't even an attempt to hide it. Imagine what goes down on a fuckin dicks test that they only give once a decade. Maybe I'll do better on the next one, cuz I know it's all on the up and up right? If I study really really hard and give 2,000$ to Bernstein, I'll get a fair chance next time... It doesn't matter how much experience or how deserving you are, it's what "study group" your apart of and what exempt phone call that you have. I know it's extremely hard to study answers to a test.. I don't want the detective life anymore. It's around the clock non-stop work. They're so fuckin short that 200 new people will barely even keep up with retirements. Good luck trying to get better than a 1 or 2 furlough. And good luck making it to area north without a phone call. Honestly it's about making this job work for my family and I. And being a fuckin slave in the D unit isn't at all glamorous anymore in today's world. But some people still think it's the 1980's and chug the cool-aid. I'm sure they'll be fine.

thanks for the rant little pouty puppy dog but Ill be in the first class. Now im not saying im anything special because im not. Ive been a blue shirt for almost 24 years. Yes, I took bernstein and spent the money. No I wont get a 1 or 2 furlough because as a detective you pick furloughs and watches by time on the job so being a new detective I should be pretty good with 24 years. It wont be the most time on but it wont be the least either. so stop your crying because you bombed it. study and take some initiative.

Re...
Congrats to those by list. Those of merit hopefully you can prove yourself because merit dicks are not looked by many as favorable.
----

This is the biggest crock of shit I've read in awhile here. Those that made it by test score alone and without clout congrats and get ready for an inbox that will never empty until you retire . You will carry the load for the merit hack chosen ones that will do the bare minimum and still complain, they'll grab the keys after roll call and you won't see the until checkoff.
As far as helping each other out? You only help push your work off to the new Dets because they're new and haven't figured out the lay of the land yet. Look out for the old guys? The non clouted old Guys are assigned cases up until the day they retire and are hounded mercilessly by the spineless Sgts to close their cases and not suspend them because the hacks whine they are being overworked.
If you can navigate through the office cliques and bullshit the D2A retirement is worth it, the worse they can do is put you in SVU.

People need to stop trying to defend those whose names appear over and over and over on promotional lists year after year after year.
These people are merit/ clout hacks that don't work the street and other than perhaps their probation period, never worked the street since.
They are not the real police, can never claim to be the real police and are a joke to those that really are and have been the real police.

You know who you are.
You don't fool anyone.
You are afraid to work the street.
You are not the real police.

and that goes for those that have worked inside jobs 90% of their careers = you are not the real police either!

Says who? Some old timer that retired 15 years ago? This job has gone to shit and that includes the Detective Division.

I have been a Det. for well over a decade and I have been in the field 100% of that time. My fingers aren't bleeding. Are you a Chicago Detective? Who you kidding? DO we get a lot more handouts than 12 years ago? I don't know. THere's less Det's now that's for sure, but look at the RD#'s - they end in the 500's now. Didn't they used to to go into the 900's?

You are a naïve one. My class of 38 had 5 Detectives that went north. Me thinks this one will be going north with all that mommy has to say. Also, IF she does get sent to Central or South, I'd be willing to put that $10g large that she will end up there within two years. That is unless you're stupid enough to do it. If I see them in Central or South, they will get put in "youth" because they haven't a clue how to do police work or investigate anything.

Please let us know where you're a detective so we can transfer there. Homicides are up 48% over last year and not a single detective has been added to the mix in a year and a half. The last class of 47 was back in September of 2015 and didn't even keep pace with retirements. Crime is up across the board over the last 5 years and the manpower in the D-Unit has continued it's death spiral to dangerously low levels. Do we get a lot more handouts? You should know if you're a detective but since you ask, the answer is a resounding yes. We get a lot more in custody crap too. I know detectives with a hundred plus jobs in their fucking in boxes and mine personally isn't much better. My fingers aren't bleeding either but they sure are numb.

There are far fewer "in custodies" - look at the arrest #'s - WAYYYY DOWN

There are far fewer handouts - about 500k this year - I remember then being in the 900K range

if you do homicide I'll give it to ya - you have a lot more - twice as many as usual

Rd#s down considerably.

Detectives jobs must be easier.

No one is getting arrested for much of anything

Maybe they didn't teach this in the academy, but your have to pull an rd# for most arrests

1811, 2027, 2024. Etc

Detectives don't investigate those reports

So they're numbers haven't gone down at all

Over 4000 shootings alone. Every one of which has to get investigated by a detective and has to have basically what amounts to a minimum 2 page typed report attached to it. Bullshit arrests are down such as your one baggers, criminal trespass, reckless conduct, and all that other garbage that detectives never investigated anyway. All the crimes that detectives do have to investigate are way up and those people that aren't detectives have no idea how much work goes into a lot of these cases and how much typing gets done on them. Homicides, CSA's, robberies, burglaries, agg batts, death investigations, arsons, child abuse, missing, etc. All these things and more get investigated by detectives whether you made an arrest or not. There are currently about 800 detectives spread across 3 areas and it's probably more like 500 when you account for all the non field positions and dead weight. Even some of our more special readers on here should be able to handle this math.

I'm sure she did. Until that one arrest where she allowed an arrestee to get a loaded handgun into the lockup because she and her partner did not search this person. Best part, she never took a day for this. WOW.

Job well done DUMB ASS. If you don't want to fully do your job that's fine but stupid shit like she pulled may have gotten anot her person seriously injured or killed. That in itself should've have gotten VT ten days w/out pay.

Nah. I heard enough about this goof. She's another one who doesn't know what real work is like. Writing a parker or 1-2 case reports a shift, or working on the school car on 2nd watch in 012 will not prepare anyone for detective work. I doubt she even knows where 26th / California is located.
