135 detectives divided by three areas. Each area has three watches. Divided by day off groups. Obviously, some will be RDO at all times. Some will go to the area and others will soon find a job at HQ. Some will end up at the JISC on the south side. The areas are already crying for manpower.
We need more....Honestly, 100 in each area is a start. But who believes that can happen? Make three more detective classes this year, and I will believe the Dept cares about the crime rate, and the ever falling clearance rate.
The Dept also knows that many detectives are going to retire soon...This the all to familiar too little, too late...

To improve morale and maybe possibly lower the homicide count in 025 the cmdr and capt are gonna come in to work on Xmas day and not only pay for a full holiday dinner, but personally serve it to the guys too. There is a catch however. Its only for the officers that are on his tac teams. They said the watch can help themselves to the crumbs and cold leftovers they dump behind the desk under a pile of ISR receipts. A certain foot officer is going to provide the floral centerpieces for each table. He does anything for a free meal. The upper echelon of 025 is trying hard to divide the watch and tac. BTW: if you got any search warrants lying around bring them to the front office so they can be put to use just as long as none of them are at the motel 6

The Lts list is an absolute joke. How do the same people keep getting made double and even triple merit? A few good names but the vast majority are complete hacks. It is no wonder why this once proud department is in the sorry shape its in.

What in god's name did dean jr. ever accomplish on the department to "merit" his promotion? The kid has been on the medical or injury on duty for at least a third of his career. The media should look into this sham. The hubris of the Angelo family is shocking, even by Chicago standards.

Every single one of these guys/girls who has 4 o5 5 years on the job are people who have no idea how to be the police without a camera. You need experience from people who were the police before all this big brother started. There are things these new recruits need to know about and how to do things from people who have done them. Everyone on now for the past 6 or 7 years has never been the police without being on the camera and are a different breed and dont know the ways of how things were before cameras and GPS. Im not saying to teach people how to be scammers or anything like that, but what I am saying is kids these days need to know from guys who know how things were and how you need to get things done when they need to get done. The camera cops these days are soft and dont have a clue. Not just body cameras but in car cameras.
So what did it cost the membership in the fop so Dean JR could get promoted in the first class?

It's been said here before, but I agree with it...you should only be able to get one merit bump in a career. In a perfect world, there shouldn't be any merit promotions, or if someone gets shot in the line of duty, give them a merit detective spot, but we know that won't happen. Also, if you come from some anointed lineage, you shouldn't be allowed to get a merit bump at all, just for appearances of impropriety. I guess this is all a moot point though, when secret study groups give you the answers to certain promotional tests.
sgts were 75 short. now they make 53 more LTs???? They better hope they make a big enough class because now being down 128 and retirements coming up over the next few months especially the usual dozen or so that go in april will really leave us short. im tired of being the only sgt on the watch. HIRE MORE!!!!!!

Can someone confirm? Supposedly, someone was terminated and Dean was slipped into that spot on the list as if he made it off of score. O'Niell? Maybe this is why D.O'. was moved to Corp Counsel on the "hush" and no longer in H.R. Anyone?
As a someone who has interacted with Dave Weigand for a few years, I am extremely pleased, and at the same time disappointed, to see he was promoted. Lt. Weigand led by example and is a primary reason why the RBT in 12 has been so successful. We can only hope he rejoins 12 as the Tact Lt...After Bubblehead and his clowns from 007 are history.
There are FTO that are being made with less than 3 years on the job....
Even better, there are detectives that are being made with less than 3 years on the job.....

If you've done great police work throughout your career I have no problem with merit. If you've worked your ass off chasing bad guys I have no problem with merit. If you've never done a fucking thing but sit inside and read orders you suck.
JH from 009 is a merit hack, his cmdr buddy put him in. Big scammer. Not as big as his girlfriend AM who has been milking the medical for almost a year with a made up non-existent injury! Shameful!
I understand the concerns of those who pointed out the fact that there are coppers making Dick and FTO with less than 3 years OTJ. Let us not forget that this is a result of many things (in no particular order):
1) the massive hiring of the last 4.5 years - Rahm finally getting called on his and Daley's BS about hiring (or lack thereof). Rahm hiring as many recruits as the academy allows at the absolute very last minute instead of hiring when he said he would have.
2) the amount of time elapsed between said hiring wave and all the retirees within that same time period and after - If 1,500 policeman with over 20 years retire and are replaced by brand new hires that leaves you with a very young department especially if that trend continues. In my district alone within the last 4 years we have seen an influx of at least 100 new officers.
3) Timing of the test. The massive hiring wave began in 2012. The last dick's test was 2005 and new dick's test in 2016. Enough time elapsed between the hiring wave and the new test to qualify most of those hires to take the test.
4) Clout. SOME of those new gals/guys are daddy's and mommy's little girls and boys. But, I do know a solid handful on this list with 3-4 years OTJ that have done really well on the test and will make great dick's. Despite the clout of the inexperienced coppers there are a lot of the newer guys that are sharp as a tack. And we can't fault them for being smart and for studying a lot.
5) No new dick test in 10 years. When that much time goes by...shit is bound to get fucked up.
I'm sure there a myriad more reasons but as far as I can calculate these are the main ones. So for those current dicks that are soured by the fact that you'll be sitting next to a young officer with only 3-4 years otj—don't be. Help the young lads. Pass the torch. Lots of senior officers complain about all the new guys on the tact teams and how they don't know shit and then sit there and watch them drown. What good does that do anybody? Help them! Believe me I know there are those jag offs that refuse the help and think they know it all. I've seen that as well. But the least you can do is extend your advice. I'm sure a lot will be willing to accept that advice.
To conclude I say Merry X-Mas! Spend this time with your loved ones and don't worry about things out of our control. Just make the best of them.

This is the first time I didn't bother taking the tests and I'm at the point that I don't even look at the lists. I've finally realized it doesn't matter and just want to hang in there a bit longer until I can retire.
My daughter starts the academy 17 jan. I have attempted to disuaude her but she wants to try it. Oh well.

I'm guessing that all the F/1s being promoted by merit has a lot to the statistic that came out that in the past 10 years there were zero F/1s who made it by score. And now so many were in the top ten, hmmmm. A statistician could be put on the stand and they could explain that the probability of this happening without cheating is beyond remote. Nothing that Fat Eddie does has any credibility as long as the 3 HQ, Eugene Williams sponsored, cheaters are allowed to remain on this job. The new Affirmative Action.

Gotta love all the merit promotions They didn't even have to open a book or waste a minute studying. Their connections got them in and they knew it. They now made it before guys that studied hard and did very well on the test. How fucked up is that?

Scary times. Detectives without even one service bar on the sleeve. 6 months in the academy, a year doing that bullshit foot patrol, a couple of periods "working" the beat followed by reverse seniority to a tac or 06 team and now a detective. Any detective that comes to my scene will promptly be asked what number they placed on the test and how much time they have on the job. Congrats to those with 10+ years who waited it out and placed good on the list. As for the merits, 27 of you stole this promotion from someone more deserving.
I was able to get my guy promoted, so what. The rest of you keep studying.

I agree with you that FTOs should have to have a minimum 5 years on the job, but seriously?? Cameras are here to stay buddy whether you like it or not-perhaps you should adapt.

Lt's are going to be needed when the dept. goes back to making them work for a living and have some responsibility. DSS position will get less responsibiliities and Lt will go back to reviewing arrest, handling the district, ect.
Lts list is an abysmal joke. I am officially retired on duty, let the new double merit "leaders" dazzle us with their leadership skills. This west-sider will sit back and enjoy the implosion.

The JK's from 011 and 016 will make fine detectives. One did zero in 016 tact while the other did zero in 011 for years working the desk after getting burned out from 2 years on the hard west side streets. Too bad the real K (TK) didn't make it, only one in the bunch to be the police.
Sgts will be apprx 125 short after taking the 52 new lts. Add the 37 that is added to budget and you have 162. Maybe a few more retirements before next class. Looking at 165 to be made. Remember 30 % merit.
How the hell did dumB as A LATA rocks make detective?? Better hope this guy goes straight to diaper dick......
If Spencer made it off list, which I doubt, it is because he was NOBLED-up.

I worked with her at a patrol level. She was a worker. Didn't know how she was a a sgt. Hopefully the same. She wasn't the brightest bulb in the mix, but rather have her than a desk bunny or cheater

Thanks to Commander RB who put in Jenny Rock-Us even though she worked for him about a week for merit and refused to put in anyone from 016 and Looney tunes who was "too new" to the district to nominate anyone. Once again Admin gets the bump the workers get nothing.

So let's see here....Eric Carters is command staff and well connected and his wife gets made....Wysinger was the 1st deputy and his wife gets made....Liekia Fenner dating Special Ed and she gets made....Eve Q has a child with former 1st Deputy Starks and she gets made. What are the chances that these women are qualified to be lieutenants and they are married to merit command staff members? What kills me is that they want respect but they stole their promotions.
there are dicks that made it from the the last exam who had 4-5 years on before getting promoted. They are the most intelligent and supportive coppers I know on this job. When I need advice or direction I turn to 1-2 that I know who made the first class of the last exam. Both had 4 years on.

Not sure who they are, but there are a lot of promotions from 012 of people she is known to have felt were good cops when she was commander there.
Enough of the Marlene hating. She's the only Sgt in 313 that hits the street with her people every night and spends the whole tour in 011. At least she gets hurt at work not the softball diamond. Top of all 3 promotion tests so obviously she's knowledgeable. Some Watch is about to hit the jackpot with a top notch lieutenant. Show em how it's done.
Congratulations to Eric Winstrom. Without a doubt, one of the smartest people on this job and always looking out for the best interest of the real police. It's actually good to see that there are future potential command staff members with a brain. Enjoy the 1st watch in 007 for a while :-)

I agree on the extremely poor choices for merit Lt, it's a joke, but I see some names on there that I know that made it by score who are horrible Sgts and will be horrible Lts, so score may get you in the door because you may test better than others, it absolutely doesn't mean you will be a better supervisor than the others. People with 10 plus years as a Sgt on the street passed over for people with 3 years r less, house mice, side pieces, girlfriends, and multiple merit super stars is the biggest problem with this process and ultimately this job. I've seen enough and I'm shutting it down..

OT...All officers in 17, you are to be subjected to the most incompetent clout hack you will ever meet. Officer from 24 couldn't get third watch so her patrons moved her to 17 without a bid to give her what she wants. Be very careful around her.

You'll make a stellar detective. The list is already on the Internet. Your name and star number(which is going to change anyway) are already available to the entire world. Your salary, your CR history, any lawsuits you've had, etc. is all available to anyone with half a brain and the desire to do one minute of research. You're not getting sued or having your home invaded because your name shows up on the blog. So, are you really this dumb, or is there another reason you don't want your name on here? Merit suckhole perhaps? Don't put in for merit if you don't want to be called out on being a merit pick. Be proud of your clout. Flaunt it in front of the peons. They'll all love you and tell you what a great detective you are... I promise.
You were right, Detective is the best job. I remember you making us study during lunch and your study group in the 7th District roll call room. I know all too well what it was like to have been a non-Hispanic on his team. His was easily the most undesirable team in narcotics. It was like a "dump" team of sorts. People were constantly parading to O'Grady office, begging to be assigned to ANY other team. I landed there after my team was dissolved.
It wasn't long before I joined the parade to the commander's office.
This guy backstabs...Lies to your face...Is an absolute chickenshit supervisor.
Also heard a rumor that some guy in 009 they call fat basturd or something got the answers and studied them though he claims he didn't. Funny how kids bosses and union guys always make it.
Staples added two more merit lieutenants. Makes 3 from the last two classes, none of them put in officially by her. I heard they are very smart, but not intelligent enough to do good on the test. MA you might have to work a little more now. Rock on...
Congrats to the caps Sgt in 006 on the merit spot. Those extra ornaments on the tree are probably what put you over the top. Given not earned right supe.

Best job in the department is being a detective. No BS calls, etc. make your court money. Stay as long as you're mentally able and retire. The way the department is right now is to squeeze as much money out of this city before it's gone. Good luck to you all.

Are most of you really crying about who got merit spots? Who the hell cares? If you don't trust or like anyone you know is merit avoid them. You still get paid you still can goto work and get coffee and manage how your entire day goes.

Thanks for the heads up. Funny she's on 1st watch for now. But we will see how long it takes for her to move. Commander has an extreme soft heart ( or more) for female officers.

Uhhhhh when you discriminate against a certain race by promoting someone over them based on race, that's racism. If a white guy is more qualified or equally qualified to do the job, but the black guy gets it because he's black, that's racism. You're probably one of those "black people can't be racist" morons.

in the 80's most Blacks came on the Police Dept with College Degrees and were still past over for promotions. Is that Racism. I won't even tell you what happened to my Uncle in the 60's, 70's and 80's on the police Dept because you are the type that would not believe it.
Did u even notice that the Dept was run by the 1st Deputy until the 1st Deputy was Black. Then all of a sudden the White Supe ran the Dept. Have you noticed that NAGIS has had a Black or Hispanic Commander since Eugene Williams in the early 2000's.
