Police Shortage = Higher Crime
- A cluster of Northwest Side auto dealerships is reeling from a drubbing of brazen car thefts from their lots, many committed in daylight during business hours, managers and public officials said.
Managers at three Portage Park dealerships in the 5300 block of West Irving Park Road have reported having cars driven off their lots since November, almost always by the same group of teens. In all, the thieves have made off with more than a dozen vehicles, the managers said.
The group of six to eight teens or young men repeatedly has been recorded climbing into cars waiting to be serviced, according to Billy Bobron, a manager at Marino Chrysler Jeep Dodge, 5133 W. Irving Park Road.
Although Marino hasn't had any cars stolen, employees there caught the thieves in the act twice in one day, he said.
"They brought a car in for service, and someone was hiding in the trunk who then jumped out and got into another car," Bobron said. "Then that night, after we closed, we caught them trying to snip the fence. We had to go chase them away."
Combine the lack of police with the lack of punishment....guess what happens?

Luckily one of their mechanics grabbed dude and held him until cpd showed up. When his buddy came in to help him they held him too. Both charged with several counts of auto theft including range rovers from the burbs.

The thieves have been picking on the car dealerships on south Western Ave for decades. Every trick they can think of, to include getting a job as a car hiker and stealing keys from the service department. These dealerships have to have an armed security officer on the premises every night. The police can't stop every crime, no matter how many cops you have. The real problem lies in the citizens of this town, and I use that term lightly. They need to be quickly prosecuted and spend some real time in jail. However, i am beginning to believe that the black legislators and black elected officials of this city and county and state, are closing their eyes to what is going on. Why? Are they hoping things will change? Are they embarrassed at the level of black crime?Are they blaming white superiority ?

Now this is certainly an idea I can get behind. I wish we did have a group of vigilante assassins that would target robbers, thieves amd other miscreants we can no longer police. We have become so ass backwards as a society that this actually sounds like a sound idea. I would just need some way to know who to not stop the good guys from doing their good deeds.

Channel 7 ran the story the reporter keep saying that it was the 019 District. She was in front of the police station. She was doing the story in front of the 016 District. Stolen car cases in Juvenile are already only charged or pled down from PSMV to CCTV. Also , if there are multiple offenders in the car it will usually be screened out because state will say they don't know who driver was.Recently saw a case where they were shooting out of the car at another car and case was screened out because they said they didn't know who the driver was or who had the gun. There used to be a time when everyone caught would of been charged for both the car and the gun, now no one is. Also , they would of been probably held in custody. Now at most , they're given a 21 day date and then the case is screened out. Preckwinkel is obsessed with emptying out the Audy home. And with Fox , it's only going to get worse .
I'm for the police staying fetal, but part of that deal was to take care of our own and I'm sure I've head that on this blog and on others. I also thought in the 8th dist, the west end was taking care of our own. A few nights ago, I was sitting and watch the snow storm and observed two M/Hisp 22-25yrs. trying to break into a vacant building. I called 911 and reported the burglary in progress. After 20min. or so they left without breaking into the building. Now almost and hour after making the call and no police, they came back with tools. I know the owner of the building and know he would do something if the same was happening to me. I grabbed a 12ga. shotgun and walked up to the two punks and jacked a round into the chamber. They heard and saw me with the loaded gun and dropped their tools and fled. I went back in and watched the building for another hour, no police arrived and I did not call back because of what I did with the shotgun. I told a friend who is the police what occurred and he said, it was a good thing I went back into my residence; there was a good chance I would have be arrested for some type of gun charge. What the hell is going on in this county, this is not America any more.
They've been finding these cars all over 015 for the last couple of weeks. A bunch got stolen from the car rental place on long and irving. All recovered in 015.
I hope they pick a dealership that belongs to the outfit---problem solved!

A warrant will be issued once the Isp lab get a match on the offenders finger prints...So right now my multiple gun offenders are on the street waiting for the labs to come back adding to the shootings and homicides. This is what statisticians would refer to as a murder multiplier. Next summers is going to make Mexico City look like Beverly Hills in comparison to chiraq. It must be noted that in these two above mentioned cases both offenders were violent gang members with prior uuw arrests and in gang factions that are involved in a violent gang war that is responsible for multiple homicides and shootings In recent days. Don't blame me I didn't vote for her nor do I caucus with street gangs ( like everyone who voted for her does) they are her core constituents and political power base. I can look my kids in the eye and honestly tell them and the people of Chicago I am doing my best to stop the violence, and out of control homicides but I can't charge Felonies since I am a lowly police officer.

You have to have 10 convictions for PSMV before they will charge you with felony.

The democrats don't care if they sacrifice their own in the name of letting Black or Brown Offenders go. This was proven recently with the killing of Danny Davis's grandson. The ones who killed him, juveniles, were arrested the night before the killing. Under the old detention rules they would have been sitting in the detention center. Under the new rules they were let go to kill. This caused Danny Davis to blame the gun instead of the system set up by Toni Prekwinkle and Tom Dart.

Agreed! You are correct they want police to lay down, they pay us a nice salary, you get paid the same if you produce or not so if not the homeland why bother catering to the thugs and animals? Enjoying the job is what it is all about, you get paid better than most jobs, you get a car, with a radio, driving around and waving smile alot that's the way to a secure retirement!
I can not understand why coppers are so hot chasing bad guys when the boss clearly states Don't do that we are not paid to be aggressive as the poster states and the look of it stay fetal.

SERIOUSLY? What I'm getting here is that an armed civilian with a shotgun stood down two wannabe burglars due to the fact that police assigned to the 008th Dist. never responded to the call, and you want to blame the COMMANDER for this? He likely wasn't even there at the time! If anyone is 'to blame' it would be the immediate supervisors on the street in 008 (sergeants) who had to hear that call go out, and never bothered to ensure that SOMEONE responded. And why didn't one of the supervisors ride over there themselves in response to the call? Last time I checked, Sergeants and Lieutenants were "police" also!
It appears nothing has changed in 008; lots of calls for service, and lots of poor to bad response by those assigned to 008. If anything, maybe this new commander out there needs to start initiating more disciplinary action for those who fail to respond to calls for service in a timely manner, if at all.
There really is no need for officers to respond quickly to a call of a burglary in progress to a structure that has been identified over the radio as an abandoned or vacant building. Unless you can quickly determine (and contact) the owners, you likely won't have enough of a case to obtain burglary charges. Not worth getting hurt or getting into a scuffle with a burglar over an abandoned property. Not in these times.
