I've heard absolutely nothing about Lts getting made. 30 just came out last week. From what I've been hearing the first class of 100 is ready to go for detectives. First class is to start January second. Weather it stays that way or not is the big question...

Don't know how many they are making but after that lass class of Lts they are down 71 sgts. They claim they are adding 112 to the budget over the next two years so you could assume(never assume) that they would add56 extra per year. They average two classes a year so common sense(yes, I know I used that word in the same sentence describing the CPD and city) would tell you that it's possible that 26 people could be added to this class. So let's say they make up for the 71 short plus another 26 would be 97 so let's just say 100 should be made this next class. So I have no doubt the department will make 33....
If the merit system was legit. These packages would be available for everyone to access and put your own package together. Why would some exempt put you for merit when they don't even know your face/last name? Yeah it's legit!!!! Freaking joke.

The lowest they've ever gone to on a sgts promotion list was somewhere around 365-370. The last group was ended in the 415-420 range.
New test@&##@??? Highly unlikely as the amount of $$ needed for a test makes its very very unlikely a new test will be given until 2020-ish. I hear the list will be up for at least another 2 -3 years and they gonna make quite some sgts from it. Heard north of 450 off the list. Over 500 for detectives. And over 200 on the Lt.'s list.

Probably march....class might be as big as 150, if you include current vacancies, a class of LTs (which creates more vacancies) and the budget increase for the new year.

if u look at the history of the sgts. test they actually get offered pretty often 94,01,07,13 so another test probably in 19 so people will start taking study groups in 2018 thats just my guess...

TWO YEAR POLICE HIRING PLAN
Over the course of the next two years, CPD will be hiring an additional 970 sworn officers. The majority of these hires will be within the following ranks:
500 Police Officers, 250 positions are included in the 2017 budget
92 Field Training Officers, all positions are included in the 2017 budget
200 Detectives, 100 positions are included in the 2017 budget
112 Sergeants, 37 positions are included in the 2017 budget
50 Lieutenants, all positions are included in the 2017 budget In addition to hiring for the new positions, CPD will need to fill existing police officer vacancies. It will also need to hire police officers every time there is a retirement or promotion at any rank over the course of 2017 and 2018. Since 2009, the average number of sworn retirements across all ranks is 475 per year. CPD and the Department of Human Resources (DHR) have begun to implement the following hire plan necessary to fill these positions, keep pace with attrition, and hire officers as promotions occur:
Two new police officer classes will enter the training academy by the end of 2016. One class will start at the end of October and another class will start in December. Starting in January 2017 a class of approximately 100 new recruits will enter the training academy almost every month.
The existing Field Training Officer vacancies will be filled in January-February 2017. The additional 92 new positions will be filled right after the existing vacancies are filled.
The detective vacancies will be filled by March 2017 with a second class of 100 detectives filled by April 2017.
All lieutenant vacancies will be filled by March 2017.
All existing Sergeant vacancies, the new positions, and any additional vacancies created by the lieutenant promotions will be filled by June 2017. CPD and DHR are taking the following actions to ensure that CPD meets its hiring goals for 2017 and 2018 while hiring and training the highest quality personnel, including:
Reviewing and improving recruit and field training curriculum and instruction to ensure the most qualified applicants join CPD.
Reviewing the entire hiring process from beginning to end to identify areas where improvements or efficiencies can be made while continuing to ensure that CPD receives the highest quality of applicants.
Holding another Police Officer entrance exam in April 2017 to accommodate the anticipated large number of PO hires in 2017 and 2018. Planning and recruitment for this test have already begun with the application period opening in November 2016.
Repeating and expanding the successful strategies used in 2015-2016 to increase minority applicants for the police test.
Throughout 2017, CPD, the City’s Department of Human Resources (DHR) and the Budget Office will
continue to monitor and adjust the hire plan as needed. The number of hires by the end of 2017 will help direct the sworn hire plan for 2018.

Your absolutely correct. This dept does everything ass backwards. Making Sgt.'s first only makes sense. Unlike making Detectives first then a month later making Sgt.'s and losing a percentage of the newly made detectives to Sgt's..... I better stop making sense before I find myself stripped...

Here's an idea: If you are less than 100 out on the sergeant's list or know you are to be a merit sergeant, do not take the detective spot. You will never learn anything and you are wasting someone else's spot just to put on your resume that you were a detective for a month.
Does any proctologist out there really know what it takes to join one of these feats.

Think it's a better idea to just make sergeants first. You really can't fault people for taking the promotion, especially with the knowledge of how slow the last sergeants list went. Maybe Trump pulls the DOJ off the asses of police departments. Without the mandate to promote sergeants, Rahm is not going to do it.

Just ran the active 9171's on clear. Boom. Total of 1116 active 9171's. And shocker.....there's not a 2nd page. Goof. U think we are up to strength with a recent lt. Class being put through?? So you must think we had too many sgts?
And I'm a sgt. We are short per the union at least 60 after the most recent lt.'s class. Add in retirements and there ya go. Upwards around in the mid 70's. Add another lt.'s class and we will be over 90 short. Add the additional 112 spots for sgts and we are now almost 200 spots short until they start making classes.
200 spots. They added 112 to the strength of 1190. Only 37 additional this budget year which will leave the rest for 2018 year. So I'm going to guess if you are under 175-200 on the list it shouldn't take too long.

I've been a Sergeant for a long time. I have only one thing to offer. Lieutenant is the best job out there, but you have to CHEAT real well to be a Lieutenant on this job. Sure, many have made it legit, but let's talk to the cheaters. Wait a minute, their Lieutenants now. We have to address the cheaters a,s "sir or mame".
Lot of haters on the aldermans son in law. Typical of 8th district bitter cops . Guy is a solid cop and wouldn't hurt anyone as a Sgt . Does he deserve it that's debatable . However if you have more than 5 years on the job and you still let this shit get to you ...I feel bad for you . Let it go you will be happier ...
Every merit promotee should have "merit" on his/her unit designator so the citizens could see their tax dollars at work and the PO's could distinguish the clout babies. ♠

I am figuring if somebody is a good test taker and knows how to prepare for an exam, they will do well on any test. Also, if somebody has enough wack to get the answers for the detective test, they can probably get the answers for the sergeants test and in turn do well on both. I am not saying 200 people scored sub 500 on both tests, but possibly 50-60 could have. History has proved itself that you do not have to be a good policeman to do well on a promotional exam. Being a good test taker and a shitty policeman ends up in promotions from time to time .

If you truly made it on the list you would have looked at the list and known what it is(1 long page) and the amount budgeted(1190).
Why?
Because you would know how many Sgt's could be retiring and how many openings they have. Kind of important info if you have a number and it's close.

You post inaccurate information, demean the guy who posted the correct information, fail to actually look at the numbers yourself, gloat about a future promotion, and suggest that you'll be exacting your revenge on the officer who pointed out your error.
