Car Hits 008 (IMPORTANT UPDATE)

21-year-old driver.....0400 hours.....draw your own conclusions:
  • A woman was critically injured when she drove a vehicle into the Chicago Lawn District Chicago Police station early Friday on the Southwest Side.

Shortly after 4 a.m., the 21-year-old was at the wheel of a car that hit the community room of the 8th District station at 3420 W. 63rd St., according to police.

She was taken in critical “but stable” condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. No officers were hurt.
Damage is estimated at $2,500 or so, due to the cheap substandard construction materials used.

Now, leave aside the fact that this was unintentional. Can you imagine if this was a vehicle-borne IED? Get that truck halfway into the community room and detonate - there wouldn't be an 008 District building any more. But hey, glass fronted (and enclosed) buildings, low curbs, knee-high fencing. You can see exactly how much thought went into making these buildings safe for the people working in them.

UPDATE: Special Ed arrived back from The Big Apple last night, and promptly stripped the building. All officers are to report to Area Central for assignments, radios and vehicles.

No problem, Rahm will replace the entire 8th district if necessary. Cops are cheap labor to democrats. After 911, every downtown building was installing cement barricades to protect the building from drive up crashes, guess they forgot about 008 and installed windows.

Only in Chicago?

BOLLARDS!

That's the answer. Surround all police stations with bollards. It would also be a great idea for the Moosejaw store at Clybourn and Kenmore Avenues.

Contact Daley-Vanecko Bollards, LLC. for estimates. We also sell a wide selection of winter down coats with hoods at discount prices.

These new buildings are as soft as soft can be.
The city couldn't care less about their employees within these buildings.
If they cared they would have fortified the police stations..... after all just about every surrounding suburban police stations are much more fortified and secure than our Swiss cheese buildings.

Yet they have these million dollar flower boxes screwing up traffic everywhere with connected contractors filling them with flowers, some are concrete 6 feet down, and they cannot even reinforce police stations? a simple junky passenger vehicle smashes right through no problem, rahm really cares about us!! Look at federal building downtown concrete columns with steel reinforced inside to stop a terrorist vehicle, our buildings are held together with scotch tape and glue, the contractors have to payoff the politicians and use shit substandard materials no wonder doors are falling off, look at 35th street after a short time, doors won't close, desk drawers open on there own, they had to replace round dumbbells with hex bells as the round ones rolled to the other end of "tilt-a-whirl" building shoddy construction, not counting the water pooling in parking lots because of terrible drainage and the water coming right back into the building!

Citizen reader opines: You couldn't repair the fence for $2500 believe me. I bet just in the photo I saw the damage is > $25,000. It does bring up the issue of security for sure. It is truly amazing what goes on in that city. The best so far is the deal on 105th yesterday in Fernwood. Five or six shot and four dead at high noon on a Saturday. You have to respect the drama with some people. Respect the drama, it will kill. Be safe police, no one there is worth it.

Is it true the Desk had to call a car in off the street do do the paper and TVB?

Said the camera did not work... So if an asshole would had came from behind me and disarm me and put a few in me. Like what had happened to another officer, well there you go CPD... 10 grand for a funeral, and a could cops who didn't know would be there, very nice!

Desk should be enclosed with bullet proof glass , all citizens should be buzzed into a waiting area , reports taken via closed circuit tv.
No homeless allowed sleeping in Police Facilities. One bomb in a sleeping bag , bathroom , desk area will be deadly .
Want to provide warming shelters open up a field house in a few parks
It's a safety issue that FOP and PBPA better address

Security is a joke all around in the city. I won't go into specifics, but the 911 center was supposed to be built 90 degrees counterclockwise. That would have provided better security for critical infrastructure, but, the 'look' on that side didn't match the look they were going for facing Madison St, so they rotated the building. But, do you think the infrastructure was moved??

Are you a complete moron? Police and every other employee can simply leave if a there is a fire. People in cells can't leave. There's a difference.

It's not ok that the sprinklers not working puts the police at a greater risk, but Jesus Christ the bitching about how it's ok for you but the prisoners are getting some preferential treatment is ridiculous.

If you're so concerned, you should file a grievance for an unsafe workplace. Sue CPD. Call a journalist and get it on the news. That will make them change their tune.

My bet is that over 50% of those crying about sprinklers don't have a working smoke alarm and CO2 detector in your house and think that securing your firearm means putting it on top of the fridge. Because no kid or shithead will ever find it there.
