FOP Books
On the way? From our e-mail:
- I don't know why the FOP is not sending out books. As a rep, I received mine weeks ago.
This happens annually - it gets close to the end of the year, the calendars are out, everyone bids watches and furloughs, the Court Citing cards appear at the Desk and everyone gets their underwear in a bunch because they can't keep it all in their vest pocket in the book.
Such a big deal about a little thing - deep breaths people. We have no idea why they can't send it out around 01 December - it's not like they can't predict the entire calendar three or four years in advance, including the "adjustment week." Hell, Dean could sew up the vote next year if he got the calendars in the mail by Thanksgiving.
UPDATE: Ask and you shall receive - the books started arriving in the mail today.

This is just another example of the complete incompitence at the FOP... Hopefully they will be correct this year, since we are not getting them till Christmas.

While we're on the ubject of timeliness - why does the new FOP Magazine have an upcoming calendar of events and half of the listings have already passed? These two examples of ineptitude are merely the tip of the iceberg. Are Deano and his boys ready to negotiate the next contract? Time to elect a FOP leader who will put the working officer's - not his Bd of Directors - concerns first.

Haven't carried mine on me in years. All the numbers or whatever else I need is in my phone.
The holdup was that Rahm has to approve the books and he has been out of town a lot lately
Rumor has it to save money on postage, officers are required to pick them up in person.
This has been happening for over thirty years. I guess it's now a tradition.

Once they coordinate the court holidays, the books are pretty much done. Oh, yeah. They have to put the right dates in it too.
Could you imagine solving the insurance problem,pension reform, and morale in the department!
Dean was a nice experiment. Put a guy in who did little in his career had a couple of degrees to run the camp.
At least his son will be promoted cause his daddy knew how to take care of his families needs before he took care of the FOP members.

You are out of your mind I would never ever vote for dean again. Guy has done absolutely nothing these last couple years. Fop is useless nothing has been accomplished except our right and our job has been taken away thanks dean for not doing a dam thing.

Dean is mandatory retirement soon so lets get someone new in there instead of him
Why does the FOP need to mail them out. Why don't they have an officer ( watch rep ) picked them up, and give them out to the watches to distribute to the officers on the watch. FOP could save money on postage. But then again knowing the incompetence of some officers, FOP books would get lost and they would screw that up to.

With expert advisors like you, it's no wonder he got elected. You know what would really help earn some votes? If the guy running for president of the FOP actually helped, represented, and spoke out for the people voting for him. Maybe you should give him that advice next time. Stickers and books are cute, but that has absolutely nothing to do with running a union. Focus on the important shit and maybe you'll get some votes. If I see you in roll call around election time talking about how you'll get FOP books out on time, I'll call you a fucking moron and walk out of the room.

Years back,an officer had theirs by Thanksgiving--without glaring errors.
Why blame Dean? Have you guys looked at the post office? They are probably sitting somewhere waiting for delivery after the Christmas rush. Get real people.

FOP books take a back seat to the fishing tournament and picnic planing sessions.
The books are the only benefit we get for the 17 dollar fee they charge monthly. Keep your fucken book and drop fob. Lets give teamsters a try.

The FOP book is only a handy convenience guide, almost every year there's some error found and corrections made.
The Dept puts out the Official Operations Calendar at Furlough Selection time, any errors on that is on the City, not FOP.
I wouldn't be surprised that someone would file a Grievance that their choice Furlough because it wasn't submitted on time due no 2017 FOP Book.
Each year FOP asks Members to submit Suggestions to improve the contents of the Book. Guessing that could include timely delivery, hmm?
But without fail, each year Members bark to SCC about what's wrong with the Book or why they didn't get one yet.
I wonder if FOP will ever issue a Retiree FOP Book...with all the months are July and a street guide that only lists restaurants, doctor offices, and golf courses.

2017 FOP Handbooks
The 2017 Handbooks were officially mailed yesterday. The 2017 handbooks were mailed to the address we have on file. You should receive your packet within the next few days.

Anyone figure out yet how we are gonna get screwed with adjustment week between 7th and 8th periods??
Dead-beat dean, can not even get fop books out before Christmas.
I would not blame the FOP on this one.
This year the department (the city) released the 2017 Operations Calendar out on 21 October. (see the order below)
The FOP gets this from the department then sends it to the printer. Sometimes the printer make a mistake and it takes even longer to get the books.
What I would like to know is how often the department is going to have an adjustment week in the middle of the year. By changing to an odd to even 'Day off Group' you can get 26 day furloughs if you have the right D.O.G.
The department did not put out the calendar until 21 October.. Blame the city.

Got mine today in the mail late but got it! On another note not sure what thread a comment was made about the money taken from the police pension fund and given to dv urban realty davis/vanecko and the millions lost a comment on there said "you keep bring this up what are you going to do about it!" This has to be in the forefront and that is our pension money, personally the new AG Jeff sessions has been contacted and his staff is very interested in looking into who gave our money away and an investigation will be done! That is our money not to be given away as "favors" to elected friends by our pension board leaders!

Just like the pension board was going to have parity with the fire pension after they had the intelligence to stop that gold braid bill nonsense, the highest pension you get on fire side is lieutenant, while ours is loaded with gold star exempts, heck even the mayors detail all patrolmen will be getting sergeants minimum to commandeers pensions, tell me again how long "our money" will last? It should not be what are you going to do about it the question should be what are we going to do about it? dean anything? greg "quiet mouse" anything? Crickets!!

Members who helped him last time and draw in unsuspecting trustees this time . You will see Deano , Ray , Tommy , Greg , Kevie and Caps
In the near future . Don't be fooled they are out for themselves ! They will have book covers , Pens and extra Fop books . It's election time .
Dean is calling up cops who ran on his ticket last time to garner support . He feels he such a shoe- in with the retirees it won't matter who runs against him . Time to shoo this crew !

For all you rookies the city always provided you with the general handbook. The City lost a contract arbitration to FOP. In a temper tantrum they refused to print books for FOP members. The Union picked up the ball. The constant complaining by the f-ing hair gels is nauseating.

It's a book membership,card and some f'ng stickers, why does it need to be sent to your home anyway? Send it to your unit, district via Department Mail by Oct 1st. Every year same shit, how difficult is it?

Great idea for you I retired at 56 and am enjoying life, why not make it mandatory at 80 you can keep working and showing up just ask yourself "am I still the best?"But i agree on the win you pay in the pension and take nothing out that is winning for many of us asshat!

Sounds Good, even better make the age 78. That's currently the average life expectancy of a White Male. That way you max out and most likely will drop dead before you collect one retirement check. Make sure you stay on the midnights the entire time as well, after all you are a bargain for the city and love the CPD.

Speaking of the FOP. Where are all of the reps. Haven't seen them in the district since before the election. They don't give a shit. They were so interested in our needs and getting elected. But once elected not a word. Show up to the districts and talk about what we need now and for upcoming contract. And as far as going to my unit rep. Gimme a break. I couldn't tell you who ours is. Never met him or her and get no information or updates whatsoever. Hell, third watch doesn't even have one. All I'm saying is if you took on the job of unit rep to save yourself from paying Union dues then at least yourself should inform the district with what's going on.
And as far as the FOP books. They are important and nice to have personally. I have sent in to FOP every year that update sheet in the book about what's wrong with the new current book, changes that need to be made, and additions you would like to see added. Nothing ever got changed or added. Same mistakes as years past. Phone number that are wrong. The addition of a couple new ideas. But hey, that's not the important issue right now. Our Healthcare and pension need to be top priority. Most got on this job for those and other benefits. No purpose staying on the job if they are taken away upon retirement. Pay, Healthcare, and Pension. Get it done FOP.
