"Green" Business Leaves

  • Chicago crime has led Enterprise’s car-sharing operation to cancel existing reservations in the area and stop taking new ones, the company says.

Enterprise CarShare has had “a lack of vehicle availability” for the past six weeks, as "a direct effect of significant vandalism, theft and fraud," the company told its members via email Tuesday.

About 40 percent of Enterprise CarShare’s fleet had been involved in theft or vandalism, a company spokesman said. A Chicago Police Department spokesman could not immediately comment on whether the department was conducting a broad investigation of the incidents.
We're pretty sure that 95% of that 40% was theft of vehicles. We heard more than a few of the recent chases were hot cars from Enterprise. Most pursuits were terminated in the first ten seconds after it was discovered it involved a rent-a-car. So the "Pursuit Policy" has real-world ramifications (Rahmifications?) on businesses operating in Chicago - and if the cost is greater than the profit, guess what? The business leaves, leaving another hole in Rahm's budget.

Perhaps they should really check who they rent to? Hold the renter liable for damages.

That's weird. Next thing you know, very nice, new section 8 apartments will quickly be trashed and crime in that area increase. Strange, unpredictable things are happening out there...

And Kim Foxx refused to allow felony charges for a convicted sex offender at Brookfield Zoo. He is barred from the zoo, as it is considered a park. He was filming the little kiddies. Not the critters. Way to protect the kids, Kimm!

It was a shitty business model that didn't consider the local scope, aggravated by internal theft and technology they failed to update. Nothing to see here, it's happened before in other markets.

Really nothing to see here.

They are not the only businesses that are leaving this shit hole. High taxes, no state budget, red light/speed camera's, 0.7 cents for a bag in a store, soda tax, crime, sanctuary city, lake front crime and this asshole mayor just keeps pandering. This City is a joke, and the hole county is aware of this once great city, now being a second rate city due to the democrat's fucking it all up.

If they leave the keys in the vehicles on their lot (just like many car rental companies choose to do), they should be held accountable for making it easy for the thefts to occur. You shouldn't be considered a victim if you assist in the crime. Police time and resources are wasted simply because of their less than secure work practices.

That is just another reason to never buy a "rental car" or as dealers call them "program cars" or "lease returns" they beat the shit out of them! iad I know as a fact along with that pos inspector general has an "open contract" with enterprise that anytime they want they can switch out vehicles daily even! "Oh I like that minivan" they would never beat on an old persons van:

They do. It is specifically stated in the agreement you sign that the renter is liable for everything that is the renters fault: Tickets, impound fees, accidents that they are found to be at fault for, etc..

The big issue is that if you pop the door lock on these types of car share vehicles, the ignition key is in the damn glove box. And a large number of these vehicles don't seem to have a OnStar type of remote shutdown. And no clue if they have a GPS locater that activates when the vehicle is started or only if you actually use the pass card to unlock it.

Did they finally wake up and see how the community has the advantage and entitlement to free stuff?

That's the liberal mindset of Enterprise.
They never vet the lessee.
They just accept a freshly minted, low balance (or stolt) credit card for a deposit, the lessee cancels the card immediately, reports it stolen and the rental company never sees the car or money again, maybe a year later... beat to shit.

When you have ol girl present her license and credit card in the office and ol boy driving out of the lot with a 300, something ain't right
(or a midnight siege of a feral 6 pack, no d/l or cc required)..
The Ghetto Robbery report always include a rental car, iPhone, big cash with the Car-Jack.
The entire Theft by Lessee charge is bogus now anyway.
Never a PSMV felony when the cousin gets caught driving it even with a gun and weed.

Daley-Rahm strong armed Enterprise for years and now that they're not contributing politically, they will likely close up all city locations, mainly because of even more high city rental add on fees coming.

Another example of community initiated decay for Feral Chicago.

There is no enforcement of criminal laws - how is anyone going to be able to hold someone liable for damages.

Enterprise: You owe $2,500 for damages
Community: Prove I damaged the car. I dinna do it.

More businesses, and people, will be leaving Chicago as taxes and crime go up.

Welcome to the end!

Same reason why certain neighborhoods don't have stores, restaurants, banks and coffee shops like lower crime neighborhoods have.

Low crime rates are a precondition for businesses.

One might think it would not be all that hard to tie the Enterprise ID card into the car's security system so even if someone breaks in the car won't start without an ID card.

Here is the thing with Enterprise, they left the keys in the car! A certain unit that writes reports over the phone has done dozens and dozens of reports for such thefts. All vehicles taken had keys in the glove box! Enterprise has said that the Chicago market is the only market this is taking place.

the entire issue of renting cars, theft and damage of these cars, not returning them when your rental is up is and has been a mess for decades. Plenty of people rent and keep these cars for weeks or months and never are prosecuted criminally. And, the rental companies cannot collect what is owed from a turnip. In some cases the car hikers are in on the deal

There was Enterprise on Western and Roosevelt. The Hoboes/hoodlums had made a hangout at North Lawndale Community News and proceeded to rob and extort every business as well as employees in the area. They made the Chicago Public Library at 6 S Hoyne a hangout and proceeded to try and rob every business in this area, too. Too many do not call the police and this is why crime is out of control.
