- Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Friday detectives are "making gains" in their investigation of a report that "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked by two men who yelled slurs and put a noose around his neck in Streeterville early this week.
"We are making gains in the investigation and hopefully we’ll bring it to a successful resolution soon," Johnson told reporters at the Shakespeare District police station on the Northwest Side.
He did not provide details. "I don’t like to comment too much on it out of respect for the victim, as well as I don’t want to compromise the detectives’ investigation.’’
Well, that's just bullshit. Would you like to know what detectives are telling us?
- It never happened. CPD is wasting hundreds of man hours to solve a Grindr date gone bad. The "victim" is refusing all forms of cooperation, his "ear witness" isn't cooperating, the Hollywood press is running with a non-existent narrative. The "persons of interest" are all but unidentifiable and left the area 20 minutes before the "attack," not to mention the anonymous witness who saw a "hillbilly looking" character that not a single camera in a one mile radius has a picture of.
And that's just from a couple of people working the case.

A few things that I don't see anyone ever mentioning with this:
(1.) Smollett claims that he cracked/broke a rib during the "assault" -- apparently he won't produce his medical records to police. Question: can a person with a cracked/broken rib sing and dance and perform a concert? Smollett flew from Chicago to LA for a concert on 2/2 He canceled the meet/greet scheduled because he did not want to take questions but he performed the concert. In my experience, broken/cracked ribs are too painful to be moving around like that. Breathing is hard, let alone singing. Did he really crack/break a rib or was that a lie to the police?
(2.) Smollett appears to have entered the apartment building on Lower E Water St via the underground garage/loading dock entrance. That underground area has a lot of loading docks, garbage containers, parking spots etc. where it would not be unheard of for someone to discard robe/twine/packing materials. Question: When walking through that area, could Smollett have picked up some "rope" from the ground and put it on himself? In his videos, he often uses imagery of rope and nooses. He puts out music videos and he uses nooses in his videos. His muscle memory is to think in those images.
If it happened it was either
Jumped by 1-2 homeless people or
Tinder hookup gone bad or
Drug deal gone bad.
Nothing else.But when you lie you have to keep lying on the lie.

Telephone and cell site locations should be able to tell if one is truthful. Deconflict all phones hitting on cell site that the victim's telephone is hitting on. This is easily proved true or false through telephone records. When subpoenas for records are prepared extensive records for the above and emails should assist with the veracity of the victim's statement. If the victim refuses to cooperate the safety of the citizens who live in that area becomes paramount and the investigation should continue for the safety of citizens who reside in that area thus victim cooperation is irrevelent in requesting those records.

Entertainment Weekly writers were posting video of Jussie Smollett at his LA concert on 2/2. He performed on stage with no shirt on and an open suit jacket. He has no bandages or anything on his chest.
Does anyone know if he really told the police that he had a cracked rib/broken rib? If so, the footage of him singing and dancing shows someone who does not have any chest injury. Wouldn't his chest be bandaged? Wouldn't he be unable to sing and dance like that so soon after a "cracked/broken rib"?
Not sure if he told police the rib story or if that's just what TMZ and others reported. But he's certainly showing no signs of any injury during his concert performance 2/2.

CWB seems to have several people behind the scenes writing their stuff. I noticed that on Saturday whoever was posting as CWB was incredibly immature and unhinged. Maybe this was a new person they have helping them or someone was having a bad night or was intoxicated while writing. This is not CWB typically. Whoever took control of the CWB login that day behaved very erratically. It was shocking to see. It reminded me of someone drunk-texting an ex in the middle of the night. I really feel for the CPD in this one. The national media wants Smollett's story to be true. So I imagine the police are being pressured politically to not spoil whatever agenda is behind this story. I notice that Kamala Harris and Cory Booker both want this story to be true because they are using it as cover to push legislation they want to push. They pounced on Smollett's tale without ever questioning it and ran with it because it fit their narrative.
If the truth became known that this was a hoax, then Harris and Booker would be embarrassed and they are two leading contenders for the 2020 nomination. Political pressure must be high not to embarrass them.
We live in a time where the public has largely lost faith in the police to do the right thing and to follow the truth wherever it leads. I don't blame cops on the job but instead blame the higher ups like Special Ed and of course Tiny Dancer. The reason that the public doesn't trust the police is because it seems too often that the people who are prosecuted are chosen for political reasons or optics. And when someone like Smollett does what he did, he's allowed to get away with it because of politics.
What's sadly most likely going to happen is that this story will fade away and go nowhere, just like the search for the "real killers" that OJ said were out there. Who knows. They might be the same people that "attacked" Smollett. They might be ninjas. Smollett will continue to claim he was "attacked" and will probably claim the CPD is racist for not ever doing anything about it. If the CPD told the truth that this was just a hoax, no doubt there would be political consequences. So the CPD loses no matter what. I don't envy the people working this case and having to navigate all this.

Rob Elgas at ABC7 just reported that police have found new security cameras that they didn't know were there before and they are downloading the video now to review. This might show the missing 1 minute where Smollett claims he was attacked. Elgas says the police are trying to figure out how to download and view the footage.

ABC7 reports that 12 detectives were on this case. Does that sound right? I am sure they are salaried, but do police ever do a calculation of what some kind of investigation costs?
If the detectives were billing by the hour, including any expenses, what would a bill for this come to? I think the public would be well served knowing what something like this costs the City.
