This was tucked away in a Tribune report about the currently room temperature Dexter:
Andrew M. Stroth, an attorney representing Reed’s family, confirmed to the Chicago Tribune that Reed was previously shot. Stroth declined to specify what happened, but said the shooting left Reed with trauma that he was still grappling with at the time of his death.
“Dexter sustained a serious injury from a family altercation in August of 2021. He was a competitive basketball player, an athlete, his entire life, and after that incident he spent several months recuperating and rehabilitating from that major injury,” Stroth said.
"family altercation":
- he was previously shot....by his own family!
So even they knew he was an asshole and someone did something about it.
It seems there's little money suing your own family for shooting you though.

What kind of an asshole do you have to be to get shot by your own family? Probably the kind of asshole who shoots at the police. So, who's got the info about this family shooting? There's got to be a case report somewhere. Maybe the department should just release those details without anyone having to bother with a FOIA request. I'm sure it couldn't hurt.

C'mon people. Law isn't about what's right or wrong. Its about money and power. The average lunchbox Joe can work 9 to 5 for 30 years, a lifetime, and never earn as much as the attorneys do taking assets and money from society's producers via a judge's bump of a gavel on just one single case. Equity in compensation and relative worth to society. Remember lawyers take a third of a judgement money and still charge legal fees. Living wages and just compensation they so desperately fight for.

On Tuesday’s Channel 5 afternoon news, a minister criticized police officers for not ‘de-escalating’ the situation of the Reed traffic stop. Just how does an officer do that when they are being shot at?
"Doesn't SCC have insider information to get all the arrests, including juvenile arrests of these violent, dysfunctional street punks that do really, really stupid things like engaging Chicago Police Officers and other law enforcement officers in shootouts, or stupid things that Saint (Not) George Floyd did like try to destroy all the narcotics evidence by showing the Opioids down his throat and up his arse?"
Yeah publishing that information would be a violation of General Orders and put SCC in a very bad spot of bother.
Here's what YOU can do though.
File a FOIA and publish those documents yourself.
Today’s tribune had an editorial ripping that piece of shit head of COPA for running to multiple national talk shows and giving speeches about this shooting. Basically said she needs to shut the fuck up and wait for the investigation to finish like,cone-head and snelling are doing.

First, she appeared at the City Club of Chicago, in an event scheduled on the very day COPA chose to make the videos public. Then on to WTTW later that night. The next day, April 10, Kersten was discussing the videos and what her agency was probing on CBS 2 and on WGN radio. On April 11, she opted to appear on the YouTube podcast hosted by ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith, known for his spicy takes (but usually on sports). CNN followed on April 13.
You’ll notice that Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago police Superintendent Larry Snelling aren’t all over your airwaves discussing this case. Johnson appeared with Kersten at a news conference the day the videos were released. Snelling discussed the matter briefly on April 8, the day before the videos came out. Both Snelling and Johnson were appropriately brief, acknowledged the horrifying nature of the incident, and then essentially said the matter was under investigation and they would allow that to play out. . . .
Why? Among other reasons, she risks undermining the impartiality of whatever COPA eventually recommends, particularly if the agency proposes harsh disciplinary consequences for the officers. With these repeated public airings, she also risks sending the message, intended or not, to her staff that she expects a result along those lines.
And, finally, preliminary release of internal questions — Were the officers lying? Was the volume of shots from police “proportional”? — provides fodder for the lawsuit against the city likely to come from Reed’s family, possibly before COPA’s full report is completed.
Snelling, who’s been at odds with Kersten previous to the Dexter Reed shooting, finally called her out on Friday, accusing her agency of acting “irresponsibly.” “Nothing, or no one, should be judged in the court of public opinion,” he said. He emphasized that COPA hasn’t even interviewed the officers yet, an obvious point of fairness. He’s right, of course.
