Blue City $hitholes

So this came out of Los Angeles on Monday:

  • Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass released a proposed budget on Monday that would eliminate a nearly $1 billion financial gap by cutting more than 2,700 city positions — about 1,650 of them through layoffs.…

    The $14 billion spending plan, which covers the 2025-26 fiscal year, would provide funding for scores of new hires at the fire department, three months after the Palisades fire destroyed thousands of homes and killed 12 people.…

    At the Los Angeles Police Department, more than 400 workers would be targeted for layoffs, all of them civilians, according to figures prepared by city budget officials. The number of police officers would continue on its gradual downward trajectory, with new hires failing to keep pace with attrition.

Usually, Chicago steals ideas from New York and implements them here (badly).

Conehead however, is looking at the Los Angeles model:

  • With a $1.12 billion budget shortfall and $3 billion more in federal funds on the chopping block, Mayor Brandon Johnson on Monday cracked the door open to the prospect of layoffs and service cuts that he has previously ruled out.

    “We will have to deal with the realities of the billions of dollars that are being threatened by the federal government. That’s a different scenario than we were under before,” Johnson said as he signed an executive order establishing a working group to advise him on ways to confront the city’s fiscal challenges.

    “But I am confident that the collective groups of the city of Chicago will stand firm in our values to ensure that we are investing in people — but we also have to make serious considerations based upon the Trump takeover,” he said.

Maybe he should look at some cost cutting before layoffs?

  • like that half-a-billion Trump made Conehead spend on illegal aliens....oh wait, that was Biden;
  • or how about that 1.25 million every aldercreature gets for ward projects....something that ought to be covered in normal operating costs in case the alderassholes give "bonuses" to connected employees - who donate a portion right back to the aldercreature;
  • maybe close a few dozen under-utilized schools;
  • re-vamp the parade and festival season - no funding equals no event;
  • or the fake "consent decree," which isn't really a consent decree as the Federal government isn't funding those any more (and never funded this one at all). The entire construct is "overseen" by a retired judge, approving fake goals, and diverting hundreds of million for the next forty years.

Hiring isn't keeping up with attrition in any department and maintenance is non-existent - look at the fire apparatus that isn't working and may actually be out of compliance with national standards.

There's plenty of room for cuts before layoffs.

But never cut the pay of the mayor, aldercreatures, their respective staffs, or take 50% of the CPD command staff reverting them back to their civil service rank and put them and their staffs, along with taking away their company cars and resign them to districts. It’d be a start.

How bout starting with the mayors detail? How many cops are there now? I heard it’s over 100. They are so big there now they have their own admin sgt. Some districts don’t even have that.

How bout cutting the XO / captain position? The XO spot is a luxury for commanders that never existed before McCarthy came to town. We got by without XO’s forever, why do they now need them? So the commanders can pawn off their work on them? How about each district gets an admin Sgt and that’s it. I’m ok if captains went back on the watches, but to have XO’s is a total waste of money. Can someone tell me what they do that would be worth making $180,000 a year?

There is plenty of room for cuts and layoffs! People do not work like employees in a real business. They are lazy and inefficient. Target, Walmart, Nordstrom etc would not be in business if they operated the way the City does. Rude customer service and take plenty of breaks. Same with County employees.

Someone needs to the investigative the Chicago Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) as 92% of their office's budget is on migrants and their housing needs. Very little is being spent on Chicagoans in need, especially Civil Rights issues like discrimination based on physical ability.

Let's get the Chicago version of DOGE on this and breakdown the CCHR's books and where taxpayer's money is going.

You know, if these mayors would do one little common sense thing they wouldn’t have to worry about losing billions of dollars in Federal funding. All they have to do is COOPERATE with the Federal government to enforce the immigration laws. They act as though they are standing at the top of the Mountain of Right and President Trump is cutting them off just to be mean, when in reality they have planted their flags deep in the valley of wrong and, like a toddler having a tantrum, refuse to budge from their position no matter how much it hurts their constituents. It doesn’t have to be this way, but they are making it so. Tell me again why these idiots keep getting elected?

Brandon knows best. He knows that the citizens want their teachers to be the highest paid in the country in order to motivate them to do their jobs. That the illegals must be fed and housed so they can get to the polls to vote. The citizens want garbage removal and street cleaning cancelled to enable the feeding of local wildlife. Like rats, mice, and whatever else can thrive on trash. Less fire department trucks, so your house burns. Just call State Farm. Like they're doing in LA. Less police so you will likely be killed and use LESS city services. And for Brandon to get his four million dollar A YEAR pension now that he's a qualified triple dipper ( county,
CTU and the city) . These are all things Chicago residents voted for so they get what they want. REMEMBER: BRANDON KNOWS BEST.

"The city of Chicago will stand firm in our values"
Those "Chicago" values that pop up whenever a politician or mayor in this city wants to fund something the tax payers can't afford? The "Chicago" values that the mayor keeps doubling down on keeping this as a sanctuary city? The same "Chicago" values that promote cronyism, and "meritocracy" of the few and chosen ones..?
It's time to change our "Chicago value" system...The system is broken, and hasn't worked in decades.

Remember when Biden and the Democrats whined about immigration saying there was nothing they could do because new legislation was needed. They all blamed Trump for killing it. What was the truth, it wasn’t the legislation, it was the man in charge.

Next thing you know there’s a new President and problem is basicly solved. So just like finances in blue cities, we dont need more money. We need new Mayors. With new people in the seats who spend the money like it was their own we wouldn’t have these problems.

The staffs of each commander and above have become bloated over the years, both sworn and civilian . That is a good place to start along with community services, who seem to have a lot of time on their hands to practice a dance routine. The political class will never do anything that will hurt themselves and that includes the alderman. Chicago is now in great financial trouble which started long before Trump who they now blame for everything.

Chicago has made a bold move toward renewable energy by striking a deal to power all its municipal buildings with clean electricity. Chicago purchases renewable energy credits through an agreement with Constellation Energy. The city’s investment in this project totals $422 million over five years,

So what the City just did was sign up with one of the companies that are Electric power brokers. Constellation Energy. The city doesn't get one watt of solar power. The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) regulates electricity rates in Illinois, but no longer regulates Chicago’s municipal electricity use. Look for Chicago's Electric bill for all its buildings to sky rocket. All this was done to say Chicago's power is 100 percent green. Which its not.

My sources are telling me that O'bummer wants that seat

4/23/2025 07:31:00 PM

Chicago’s new electricity deal for municipal buildings comes at a higher price than ComEd’s standard rate. While ComEd charges around 6.552 cents per kWh, Constellation Energy’s plans—like those offered to residential customers—can be more than double that rate.
The cost premium comes from the city choosing to exclusively support renewable energy sources, rather than simply buying power at the lowest possible price. Chicago is prioritizing its climate goals over cost savings, meaning it’s willing to pay more to ensure that its municipal buildings are powered by solar and clean energy credits.
It’s a trade-off: financially supporting renewable development versus going for the cheapest electricity available. Over time, the hope is that investment in solar will drive prices down, but for now, it’s an expensive commitment.
Idiots!
