Sergeants Monday & Exempt Changes

Just got info that the Personnel Division is/has been making phone calls to all the "merit" picks and telling them they are starting Monday. Look for a list Wednesday or Thursday. Still looking to see how big a class it is. Heard it could be as big as 120.

As far as the exempt changes go, we've corrected the spellings and ranks on the errors pointed out to us. Thanks. Further corrections can be noted in this thread.

Ralph has been acting D/C ever since our new Home Land Security expert Sullivan fell off a boat after a few cocktails.

So far he has been decent, meaning he lets the W/Cs make their own decisions and does not micro-manage.

Now that he is the official boss, I hope he continues as he has so far.

As stated in the Daily Southtown:

Sponsor Ald. Tom Allen (38th) said he's pushing the city to implement the program because Chicago police gave up on widespread enforcement of speed limits years ago.

FUCK YOU ALD ALLEN, try giving us equipment that works. Phill only wants us to stop the GANGS GUNS AND DRUGS. Most of the Aldermen are FUCKING RETARDED

Someone tell Ralph Price that it's impossible to check the park and sign the log 4-5 times a day while running around 32 square miles all damn day long because we have no manpower. HELLO when you allow 3 down beat cars and no rapids or traffic cars, somethings gotta give.

Give Police speed detection equipment and speed laws will be enforced. Don't equip squad cars with speed detection equipment and it won't. Its the city's fault and they blame the officers for not enforcing speed.

We have to be the only city in the metro area that cars do not have speed detection equipment. The aldermen wonder why there is no speed enforcement.

The only reason you get a radar car for two days when you report speeding aldermen is because only the traffic unit has radar.

Give ALL marked Police Cars speed detection equipment. For $100,000 a van, think of all the radar units you can buy for just the cost of one van.

But then this is about revenue and not public safety right. Just come out and admit it. If it were about safety and you truly were concerned, squads would have been equipped years ago.

Keep you damn radar out of my beat car... just another useless piece of out-of date equipment that some city alderman will make money from on the purchase from a "minority-based" supplier... ALL JUNK, just like our wonderful PDT's.

another batch of mindless morons who will know nothing bout being the police. foot guys, caps officers and other idiots who had the advantage of studying on the company clock while others had to do it the old fashioned way with kids hollering in their ears and no sleep.

the promotion process reeks and should be dumped along with the political hacks and do nothing bosses that drape this department.

I heard that computer geeks at 35th and Michigan are working on a "on-line" program where you can speak to a police officer on a web cam and he/she can handle "Yuppie" domestics, reports and other police related calls for people with the internet? Any truth to this?

11/02/2005 08:55:53 AM,

They will NEVER allow a domestic of any type to be handled in that manner! Can you imagine the liabilty?!?!?

Might not be a bad idea to report property crimes/Lost wallets and such. Everyone is complaining about the manpower shortage, but everytime they come up with a program to put a few more coppers on the street, everyone complains about that too.

I came to the conclusion long ago that if you gave every officer $100k a year salary and let them all drive Cadillac squad cars, they'd still bitch and moan about something. It's the nature of the beast I guess.

Dont know how large the sgt class will be but pretty sure not as large as 120.....im 79 out and havent gotten a call...120 x 30% equalls 84 off the list. I know 75 out was called and considering a few of the people will waive and maybe 1 is deployed to Iraq, 100 is more realistic.
