Winter Parking Restrictions!
Our favorite time of the year, when the people who don't bother reading the street signs designating Winter Parking Restrictions wake up on Thursday morning and don't know where their cars went. It's always humorous to see the news that morning or evening when everyone complains "It isn't fair! No one told me. There isn't any snow!" as they shell out something like $150 bucks. We've got a garage so we're safe, but are we wrong to be amused? Anyone have stories about getting towed on 01 December?

The media has been reminding people all week...how could they forget?
No license, no insurance, can't read or speak English, sounds like three strikes you're towed.
actually, in my district, it seems like people know and do not park, after Dec 1st...so, there are very few cars who actually get ticketed....it's like a big non-issue
This blog is getting real stale, real fast. It has become so bad that I am choosing to watch a streaming video than read the same old shit posted here.

They always get hammered in 19, 23, 20.... Too busy working and paying taxes to worry about it. There are too many condos and too little parking anyway. I had my car towed years ago when my wife and I were just dating. She lived at Marine drive and Bittersweet (really) - and we got home late on the night of November 30th. There was no parking on her block at that time so I saw a couple spots on Irving park road and parked there. Next morning I go to get the car and - DOH! - it's gone. First instinct is that it's stolen but then, I looked up and read the pretty red/white & blue sign. At that time I only (only!) had to pay $105 but it sucked. I was making $16,500 at an office downtown and was struggling just to keep gas in the f**kin thing. Never made that mistake again. You get good at paying attention to signs after something like that. I think the northside yuppies get hammered FAR more in terms of parking citations and towing. If you disagree you are either lying or part of the program to mislead the general public about parking enforcement in the City of Chicago.
The North Side yuppie in their gas-guzzling, air polluting SUV, probably bought with money at the expense of the poor, can better afford the towing charges than the working African-American man who probably makes a third of the European-American male.

Which one is it? Are you finally conceding that Yuppies cars are towed and ticketed more often than lower income African-Americans?
I am glad you came around and realized that yuppies cars are booted and towed more often than Lower Income African-Americans, hence your victimization argument goes out the window.
Also, you are assuming that only European Americans are Yuppies.
For an enlightened individual like yourself, I am surprized that you would not include African-Americans in the term Yuppy. I know I did.
I will agree that the yuppies can better afford the towing charges and tickets, but the answer is simple. If you can't afford the tickets, stay out of the no parking zones.
The term for an African-American yuppie, my friend, is buppie. (get it?)
Secondly, I do not admit the vehicle of the North Side person is towed more than the vehicle of the African-American. Perhaps, someone can get those figures.
I do not condone the illegal parking of motor vehicles. I was just trying to point out the rich European-American can better afford the charges. Also, the odds are greater it is not a person of color living in those trendy neighborhoods.
Finally, it would be foolhardy on your part to argue racism does not exist. It is there everyday.

Hey man, I could be considered a "buppy"! I drive an SUV, live on the north side, own my condo and wear fshionable clothes. But, I also work for CPD and I park legally. Screw giving the city and extra dime..for anything.
I always let out a laugh when I seen an nice ride with a boot, tickets or getting towed by the city.

I got towed back in 1986 from 79th street when I forgot about the restriction. And....I've never forgotten since. If the sign says TOW, I believe it!
