Go Mark! Go Mark!

Well, looks like the FOP won one, and they did it pretty damn quick, too. In the Current Updates section of their website, they state:
  • At the urging of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Illinois Police Training and Standards Board voted today to begin processing the applications for Retiree Carry Concealed without the endorsement of the City of Chicago.
Essentially, what they did was take Daley completely out of the equation. The mayor can pout and sulk and send his lawyers all over, but as soon as the Board sets up a schedule for processing and locations for qualifying, the City has no say in the matter. If the city is going to disregard the rules, screw them. All in all, this looks like a damn good move by the FOP and after all the flak they've taken in the comments sections regarding this issue, they deserve a bit of praise for handling this one quickly, efficiently and in a manner that really stuck it to the political administration.

How about making the physical fitness test (power test) a mandatory, yearly requirement for employment. Or at the least the only way you will get duty availability checks. If your a fat blob (over 20% body fat) you are unfit for duty.

Great idea! Cause, of course, you won't mind having to quit in a few years when you aren't so young, and physically fit.

I swear to god, I'm surrounded by morons! Hot, sexy, physically fit morons, but morons none the less!

The president of DCPOA (Disabled Chicago Police Officer Association), sent this email out to about 100 officers. She needs to apologize to the FOP and Mark.

Dear Mark

Just received word and read your blurb on the FOP web site about the City of Chicago not allowing retired officers to carry their weapons because of the liability issue. "Give me a Break!"

If I may make a suggestion or two, before I leave for Michigan. The FOP should take a stand on this issue and fight for retired officers who want to carry and conceal immediately.

1. The retired officer will sign a legal and financial liability release from the City of Chicago that they will not hold the City of Chicago or the Police Department responsible for any shooting incidents justified or not.

2. The retired officer who wishes to carry and conceal will go for yearly qualifications.

3. The retired officer will add additional liability insurance up to a million dollars on their homeowners insurance policy, and retain their own counsel if such an incident occurs.

These are just suggestions, Mark. But to lay down and die right now without taking legal action against the City is just giving in to Daley, again. I believe the City is putting retired officers in harms way by not allowing retired officers to carry and conceal, especially that this is going public.

Offenders holding grudges against police officers who arrested them and put them away, may think of getting even and shooting the unarmed retired officer. This should be not aired on television or printed in the newspapers either, Mark. It's putting all of us in harm's way, including you.

Anyway, I had my say. Enjoy the holiday season!

I'm glad to hear FOP took decisive action. Now I just hope the king on the fifth floor doesn't order the department to stop issuing retirement stars and ID cards. Without those credentials, retired members cannot be certified.

Should the king do that, then he's truly an ass and the FOP needs to fight it. "Past practices" comes into play. The department has been issuing retirement credentials for sometime now, and if they stop, FOP needs to fight them.

Good job lodge 7

I do not the FOP saying crap like despite people calling the media.

I for one have called FOP on things and have gotten the same old song of we are looking into it or there is nothing we can do right now in addition to them not even calling back. Well, when all this happens were is one to stand?

Now I am glad this is being pushed outside the city but in recent history this is the first item I have seen action on.

What is a PO to do if in calling the union and not seeing any action? You will bet I will then begin to look at other options.

Once again I am glad to see some things happening here but will not place all the credit with the FOP it will go out to others as well who pushed in other directions which then forced the issue more with the FOP.

Hey FOP, how about lets start looking at things that are of concern of ACTIVE members now as well.

I agree with 9:48. Whats wrong with annual mandatory physical fitness tests? Look around you, some of thee guys and gals can barely get behind the wheel of the squad car. They look ridiculous! The amount of pushup, pullups and your run time would be based upon your age. I would also like to see them come out with mandatory height and weight requirements. If you can't make the cut the City should give us say, 1 year and 3 attempts at a test to get back in shape. Can't do it? Well we gave you every opportunity to comply, bye, bye.

PS.

I do expect alot of the fatasses to disagree and call me names.

If you look st the FOP Update the statement is:

"At the urging of the Fraternal Order of Polce"

It did not say at the urging of Chicago Lodge 7 Fraternal Order of Polce.

This was a national issue and Daley's attack on Federal Law which the National FOP worked so hard for and was passed because FOP endorsed President Bush in his first campaign was the motivation to stop Daley.

The Illinois Senators did not support the Federal Legislation and are not on record for even early support of the Law.

The National FOP supported Bush a republican the Illinois FOP LOdge and Lodge 7 were "forced" to go along with the endorsement so as not to piss off the National.

The point:
If this issue was only a local issue Lodge 7 v. Daley nothing would have been done and a look at the present issues not being corrected support that statement as follows:

1. residency a law banning again "only Chicago" from bring the issue to the bargaining table.
2. working 6 consecutive days WITHOUT COMPENSATION
3. No TIME DUE no manpower
4. over a year to get the 3% cola passed for those born before 1955
5.promotional testing that everyone knows is a joke
6. grievances that go on for years and years without successful closure
7. a top heavy highly compensated administration; three vice presidents three sgt at arms and a president that makes over $150,000. a year and in addition still "TAKES" a $400.00 stipend a month and the reimbursement of his union dues for the year at the xmas party.
8. The inability to negotiate a contract so the membership has the right to vote for it. Some issues MUST be brought to arb but the trend will be in the future "The membership will NEVER vote on a FULL contract again". Include issues not sent to arb but include them in the arb results no voting by membership needed.
9. Allow trustees who are promoted to sgt remain on the board and if Sgt. Voight a "Merit Sgt" is allowed to remain on the board you will have a house mouse for the employer because he was made by the employer imagine a MERIT SGT on the Board of Trustees Chicago Lodge 7
10. the bunker mentality to silence any criticism or opposing view in order to protect that pay check. All dictatorships eventially fall and one only needs to remeber what happen to the Nolan administration!

yea! Go Mark Go Mark

Go directly to daley's office and plead that you were "forced" to show him up and didn't the 23.8 million dollar gift of our pension money mean anything

If two or three people are so effective against the millions of FOP just think what an honest, for the membership, administration could accomplish if they weren't so worried about the pot of gold they have discovered. Time for one term office holders. members dues money makes whores out of all union officers unless of course they were whores when they started.

No one may work if they cannot walk unaided, otherwise, they're put on disability. That means, no cane, no walker, no wheelchair. Many people using those devices can also handle a gun. That means, medical retirees who can qualify with a weapon may carry.

Many people in the states that allow concealed carry have such permits yet cannot walk unaided. So you're saying a medical retiree should not be allowed to carry concealed if he cannot walk unaided? That means you're a jagoff.

If a medical retiree can shoot straight and has his wits, I say let him carry concealed. And I also say to you, go fuck yourself.

So you know one of your G.O. Good for you. But you can’t tell me all, or even most of the coppers on disability are using a cane, walker, or wheelchair.

If they can walk “unaided” and their hands work just fine and they want to carry a gun, they should be able to work light duty.

Does the president of your organization, DCPOA, Rosemarie, have a wheelchair, cane, or walker? NO! Do you really think she will be the first disabled officer to put her papers in to carry a gun while on disability? NO! But don’t worry you go ahead and apply she’ll have your back.

In some cases you're probably right. If we have dogass coppers abusing the medical, it only stands to reason that we have dogass coppers who abuse disability rolls.

But that doesn't answer the question. The question is should medical retirees be able to carry? The answer is yes, provided they qualify. They don't have to do shoot practical combat course of fire, just show proficiency. Jesus H. CHRIST, get off your high horse will ya? I'm all for putting dogasses to work, whether they're medical roll abusers or disability roll abusers, but quit mixing apples and oranges. If you should get hurt or fall ill and have to take a disability pension, don't go acting like you wouldn't want the same treatment.
