Retreat and Defeat

Batten down the hatches boys and girls. The Republican National Committee has cut its first ad ripping the anti-war stances of Howard Dean, John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi.
  • A Democratic strategist who had the web ad described to her said, “This is way over the top but we have no one to blame but Dean, Kerry and others who continue to pander to the anti-war activists within our party.”
  • One Republican strategist familiar with the ad said, “The Democrats, especially Howard Dean have a way of trying to turn the tables and say ‘that’s not what I meant’ – its just those ‘evil Republicans’ This video will make them crazy – it reinforces what they really believe with what they actually said – and that is devastating for the Democratic Party.”
Our opinion? Mass hilarity will ensue. And if Dean and the party try to spin their way our of it, they are going to look like complete morons bacause tape and/or video exists of every one of their statements being highlighted.

We're counting down the minutes until Howard Dean or some other national democrat declares the Air Marshal service to be "stromtroopers" of some form or another and this to be shades of "nazi germany" or some other such nonsense. It's coming if it isn't out there already and it'll be all over the net today, news tonight and papers tomorrow.

Remember that quote from you just the other day, dear M? Let's see, it's been close to 2,500 minutes and still no Democratic outcry. Give it up friend, and the McCarthy-like looking under every bed for anti-Bush sediment. Unless, of course, it involves myself or Shady. I have no idea about little Malcolm.

In regards to this thread, I guess it is wrong to be opposed to war, or in this case, an invasion of another country. If a Democratic strategist really condemned the anti-war stance, well, I'm glad I supported Ralph Nader last election. Unfortunately Dean and Kerry are not far enought to the left.

So we were off by a couple of minutes. It happens. We never claimed to be perfect.

By the way, we're still waiting for your "proof" of Bush's "desertion." In case you forgot, here's your quote: "I shall get the documention on YOUR president not reporting for training." 12/06/2005 06:51:21 PM What's that, about 2.5 days? You aren't any better at predicting the future than us. C'mon Lefty, it doesn't take that long to forge documents (ask Gunga Dan). And no one ever addressed our question of where the 20 tons of VX came from that the Jordanians recovered. Funny how you only seem to pick the fights you think you can win and just ignore the inconvenient ones you can't even hope to score a point on.

ALso, McCarthy was right. There WERE communists in the government, lots of them, and the Venona transcripts from the Soviet archives PROVE McCarthy was correct over and over again. But the leftists and the media covered them up and attacked the messenger instead. How about these arguments: Alger Hiss was a Soviet spy and so were the Rosenbergs. We're BEGGING you to start this fight because we will eat you alive.

Oops, spoke to soon Lefty. From the comments section:

The Federal Air Marshall acted appropriately, and responded as he was trained to do. However, all the "arm chair quarterbacks" are commenting on his actions with hindsight! Katie Couric (news anchor) said something to the effect of..the poor man was mentally ill (only learned hours into the investigation after examining the victims medical history and interviewing his family members).. couldn't they have shot him in the leg or something? Maybe these media people need to spend a few weeks in a ride-along in 007 or 015. 12/09/2005 01:04:14 AM

Katie Couric wouldn't ever admit to being a democrat (though she is definitely a leftist) and we wouldn't ever admit to her being a reporter, but this is where it begins. Unless there is some immediate fall out, this will start to reverberate.

Katie Couric is an idiot talking head and is no more a leftist than you are dear, M. If we have to include comments of television hosts than we are in trouble.

I've been busy but I hope to have the comments regarding YOUR president's failure to report on all the days sometime this weekend.

What difference does Bush's drill status make? Did you ever spend two days in the Guard or Reserves? Do you know how many different ways there are for people to fulfill their drill commitments? Almost 30% of Reserve Component service members miss the minimum service gate in any given year. The bottom line today is deployability. They didn't even give a shit about that before the Gulf War. During Vietnam the push was to get RC folks to volunteer for a tour in SE Asia and then they would be released from the remainder of their RC commitment. Not to mention excused absences that do nothing but hurt the individuals pensionable years. Then you have Additional Flight Training Periods where pilots do ALL of their flying. However, these can be counted as drill at the CDR's discretion. The tracking system for pay (which equals training assemblies) is 1970's technology. I can only imagine what it was like in the 60's. It's next to impossible to figure out who is coming and who is going. In the end it is the individuals job to ensure their commitment is fulfilled, because they are the ones who will lose a pensionable year if they don't complete all of the required training for that fiscal year. I was an Aviation Commander in the Reserves and I'm politically in the middle.

When I heard all that crap about Bush attending drill I thought what a "non-starter" it was, but it got blown way out of proportion. Reservists move in and out of drill status all the time and the only one hurt by it is the individual service member. To me Bush's Guard service is no different than the crazy ass bullshit stories I read about the police all the time. I don't know one Guard or Reserve member who thought twice about Bush's duty obligations. Get over it, it's all hype.

There are legit problems with the war in Iraq. Too few soldiers in the attack to secure the country after the initial victory, lack of preparedness for nation building, and the freezing out of of government bureaucrats & technocrats because they were Ba'athists are a few. You know Clinton ran around the UN to get into Kosovo and then awarded a $67 billion no-bid contract to Haliburton for the first two years. When a President decides to take military action it's hard for congress to impede him. I will say this for W, unlike the previous President, he never waved a North Vietnamese flag in Red Square while Americans rotted in captivity.

Katy Couric, as with most celebrities, is as fashionably liberal as the rest of the social/professional circles she moves in. The only regular people she meets are waiters, hotel doormen, and limo drivers. She sure looks good in those Fendi shoes.

We'll Lefty, at least we agree she's an idiot. Who says dialog can't lead to agreement?

But you are mistaken to say she's not leftist. Don't make us link to the last 10 years of her spouting the democratic line. It's painful to think of, let alone type about. But we're willing to make that sacrifice to refute your spin. :)

I think they had more to loose if they didn't get their juice to get them their spot.....It's called their life!

58,000 US service men lost their lives in Nam. I bet 116,000 parents WISH they had some clout to save their kid's lives.

Many fools will cry out against the actions taken. "Why couldn't that Air Marshall just read his mind and know he would not hurt anyone!!!" Gimme a break. If that dude got 30,000 ft up and blew the plane every bleeding heart would cry "Why couldn't they read his mind and know he was going to hurt us???"

Bush on the Constitution: 'It's just a goddamned piece of paper'

Last month, Republican Congressional leaders filed into the Oval Office to meet with President George W. Bush and talk about renewing the controversial USA Patriot Act.

Several provisions of the act, passed in the shell shocked period immediately following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, caused enough anger that liberal groups like the American Civil Liberties Union had joined forces with prominent conservatives like Phyllis Schlafly and Bob Barr to oppose renewal.

GOP leaders told Bush that his hardcore push to renew the more onerous provisions of the act could further alienate conservatives still mad at the President from his botched attempt to nominate White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

“I don’t give a goddamn,” Bush retorted. “I’m the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.”

“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.”

“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”

I’ve talked to three people present for the meeting that day and they all confirm that the President of the United States called the Constitution “a goddamned piece of paper.”

The Truth Comes Out...

AP/NBC

The Bush administration based a crucial prewar assertion about ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda on detailed statements made by a prisoner while in Egyptian custody who later said he had fabricated them to escape harsh treatment, according to current and former government officials.

The officials said the captive, Ibn al-Shaykh al-Libi, provided his most specific and elaborate accounts about ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda only after he was secretly handed over to Egypt by the United States in January 2002, in a process known as rendition.

But this time, my inquiries are serious and meant to truly gauge whether Bush backers understand reality and knowledgably support him or whether the president has just been phenomenally successful at superimposing his face over the American flag.

Here we go:

1. Do you understand that no tangible, truthful reason has ever been given for the invasion of Iraq and that the 9/11 Commission Report – which is the de facto, official findings of our government – says there was no reason whatsoever for this war?

Hey, 12:49:20 AM, all I would like to know is whether you have read more than one paragraph in the book or whether you have read only other peoples' opinions of what was said in the report. I'll let you borrow my copy which is highlighted, underlined, has notes and I'm quite comfortable with why we are there. If you haven't read it in its entirety, you can't discuss it in an intelligent manner!

Keep your polluted CPD mentality out of the whys or why nots of military service. The fact is the RC never met 100% of its enlistment and retention goal during the Vietnam years. I'll put it in silly terms your municipal mind will understand, you don't need juice to walk into a recruiting office. I don't care what Elizabeth Vargas and her blow job lips told you at 5:30 pm.
