OK, We NEED Facts

We signed onto the Sergeant's Test website at 0930 hours this morning, flew thru the application process and downloaded our "How to" guide. Now we are reading comments all over the place about the test was cancelled?

Someone get that fax and type it into the comments section ASAP please. What the hell is going on out there?

We (and we mean we) want to know if we just got shafted out of $25 bucks.

The pay listed for sergeant’s was under THE OLD contract. The new pay is $63,108 to $91,446. -- $11,000 more than a D-1. Plus roughly $4000 in supervisor’s pay. Also sergeant’s get 45 minutes a day and you can sell back 200 hours every March. That’s $5000 clear. THE TOTAL IS A $20.000 PAY RAISE.

The reason people are starting rumors is because they are jealous .. they don’t have 60 hours of school or they really don’t want to study. They want to believe the system is totally corrupt (not just 30% corrupt aka: meritorious) OR they are typical coppers and are to cheap to pay $25.00 for the test.

FORGET ABOUT THE $20.000.00 pay raise. Just keep wearing your blue shirt and bust you ass chasing the dopeman for court time.

The website to sign up for the sergeants exam has a notice posted "No refunds will be given under any circumstances"

Maybe they cancelled it so they could keep the $25.00 fee for the general fund..A new revenue source for the City!

HA-Ha, suckers!

Why do you have to supply your SS# for a payment?

1/12/2006 04:54:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

You have to supply your SS# because anyone in the department can get your employee number. And it's not that hard to then figure out where you live.

Which poses the next question: How many people are signing up for the test using someone else's name? At least before when you had to sign up, you had to show identification.

Suppling your SS# because anyone can get your empoylee# is crap. Nowhere on the internet do you have to supply your SS# for payment on something or anything else.

Your SS# is one of the strongest links someone needs for false indentification.

Who gives a crap if someone else signs a person up for a promotional exam and payas the $25 themselves. A person still has to produce a valid picture id when entering the test.

I took years to get the SS# of time due slips. Now we have to broadcast our SS# over the internet to sign up for an exam?

At the desk in 024 and I have the fax in my hand. The test has not be cancelled, it has been "deferred" to a later date.

What kind of bullshit is that? At least they did not get 25 bucks from me.

You're not alone, I made sgt in time also. No regrets, I'm glad I was with my family rather than going to school, court, work, special....etc.

Well, one regret. Once I passed the sgts test, I didn't care about dick. Should have kept trying, maybe I would have been a dick for a few years...everyone says it's a great job.

The only reason little Malcolm is attacked is because European-Americans (as he calls it) are afraid to admit the faults of USA history. Give the guy a break. "
I'll admit that things happened that shouldn't have, but my ancestors were not part of it.My parents came to this country in the 50's. Second point, instead of asking for a handout, work your ass off and get ahead, like the rest of us. Thats why this race issue still presists, because people are still looking for handouts.

Fuck you too lefty (nothing personal)

"European Americans" is a made up, bullshit, PC word to go along with another made up, bullshit, PC word..."African American."

Blacks are not the only race of people indigenous to the African continent. To say "African American" is incorrect as not all "Africans" are black.

"European American" is also misleading. The disparity among the European races ranges from the almost lily white Scandanavians to the dark complexion peoples of the Mediterranean.

So fuck you PC assholes!! If you insist on identifying yourselves in that fashion, go fuck yourselves. As for me, I'm an AMERICAN!! That's all.

Be safe.

To the previous poster who stated that they had no "meritorious" when he made D3 in 97, you are giving out misinformation. Call it by any name you choose but when someone is promoted out of sequencial order and the promoted individual would not have been promoted based on their final score, the powers that be refer to that as a "meritorious promotion." YES THEY DID HAVE THEM IN THE 97 AND BEFORE. The game is still the same with few minor tweaks, i.e. 60 hrs credit. You're either not a Sergeant or a liar.

They will never disband the Marine Unit. They tried it before and all those wealthy boat owners that are politicaly connected made such a fuss that daley backed down and kept the unit. Besides, in todays climate of terror and with all the money coming in from Homeland Security do you actually think that he would try that now? Do you think that even he would leave our shoreline unprotected? Go spread your rumors somewhere else.

I don't know about '97 because I was already a sergeant, but I do know about '94 and '96. '94 was made in rank order, that I do remember! I remember Commander Doty on the cover of the Sun-Times with his father. He was one of a handful of minorities promoted in RANK ORDER on the list. This was an embaressment to the Daley cabal.

I was made in '96 and my class went to school for six weeks because of a lawsuit by minority candidates attempting to stop the promotional process. I also vividly remember this because some of the plaintiffs on the suit were also in my class. Circulating around the class was the promotional list to 600 places. Everyone in my class was made in RANK ORDER!

The '97 class I would bet was made the same way. If a sergeant was promoted in any of those classes out of RANK ORDER, it had to have been pursuent to a court order. I am not aware of such an order, but I won't say one did not exist.

What did not exist was MERIT promotions.

So we're not liars, and we are sergeants, at least I am. If you have more information, please share it with the rest of us.

Blow me! They went in rank order up to #410. The test was given in early '94. A class was made in Aug '94, Mar '96 & Mar '97. If you have this inside information about someone getting a bump, name names. Sounds like you don't have a clue!

TO MALCOLM X:
First of all learn how to spell second grade grammar. "I shall do quiet well". How about quite well.
Secondly: The City just built a million dollar complex for the Marine unit on the lakefront, why would they disband the unit.

Promotions from the 93 Sgts. test were made in RANK ORDER. There was no meritorious promotion from that exam. You either had the number, or you didn't. And it went a little past #410. I was number 416, and was promoted, along with 7 other people who had the same number. The sad thing about that test was that the Mayor cut off promotions after that, citing "not enough diversity" on that list. But the REAL truth was, 40% of those in rank order from #400 to #500 were either Black, Hispanic, or female! All the Mayor succeeded in was actually cutting out what diversity TRULY EXISTED on that Sgt.'s list.
