Study Group! Short Notice

Anyone here remember Capt John (ret) and ADS Charlie Roberts (ret)? Everyone remember the Roberts Study Groups? They consistently produced top scores in every promotional exam for which they ran a group. Well, on their website they think that the rumors about a new Sergeant's test coming up are "strong." We're going to go out on a limb here and say that if John or Charlie think that rumors are "strong," you aren't going to make money betting against them. Here's the big news though -
  • The registration and orientation session will be held on 11 JAN 06 from 1730 -– 2100 hours on the 3rd floor of Whitney Young High School (across the street from the CPD Education and Training Division -– enter on Laflin Street side).
  • There will be TWO registration sessions:
  • From 1730 to 1830 hours we will first register anyone who contacted us over the last few months and asked to be placed on our class list. From 1830 to 1930 hours we will register all other police officers who wish to register but who have not yet gone to our web-site (cjrstudygroups.com) and used the "“Contact Us"” button to send us an E-Mail asking to be placed on our class list. (You may still contact us before 11 JAN 06 and be placed on the class list)
You have two days to sign up for the class. Of course, the people "in the know" have been on their waiting list for some time already, so space is no doubt limited. Go. Sign up tonight! YOU could be the next supervisor to bring this department kicking and screaming into the 20th Century (no, that isn't a typo.)

Rumor is that the city is saying on the next sgt. test, no college required for 10 year or more officers.

Any Truth?

How much time do you need to take the test and/or time to be made Sgt?

1:14 - In the past, it has been 6 years (5 years + probationary year). Now that probation lasts longer than 12 months, not sure if that will change things.

I thought it was 5 years at time of appointment (as sgt). Who knows the real answer?

Rules change with every test. Used to be "Off Probabtion." Then it went to "Probations plus 2 to take it, Probation plus 5 to get Promoted." They'll publish the rules along with the Order.

Do you have to pay when you sign up for the study group? If I only have 5 years and pay, just to find out you need 6, I'm gonna be mighty pissed!

The city may waive education requirements for sergeant, but not for lieutenant. There is already a sufficient pool of sergeants with degrees that they don't have to step back. Besides, favorite sons and daughters don't need anymore competition.

I don't care what your degree says, if you can't write me a prescription for some good pain killers, you are not a Doctor. That goes Drs. Roberts, King, Who and J.

Can some one find the test order and post how many years you need? Thanks.

Tried calling the FOP and they could not find the order.....

That's because the order is not out yet. The Roberts study group is just purely speculating that the test will be offered soon.

Lessons for those too stupid to use google:

type in the following to link to a web page (hopefully you can figure out that the ones in bold are the things you must type):

<

...then type in:

a href

...and then

="http://

...and

www.youareadumbass.com">

...continuing with the words you want to describe the wonderful link that you have found and think is so fucking important that you just fucking must share it with the rest of us:

My stupid fucking link

...and

<

..then close with:

/a>

This is what your link should look like when completed (and yes, you won't see all of that other shit):

My stupid fucking link

SCC, please feel free to use this a lesson for the dumbasses that refuse to look up something on their own.

here is my study group and its a lot cheaper.

1. take reading list
2. read the items on the list
3. take test
4. notice that the test reflects list

5. pass test (50% = passing)

Whats the best place to get a copy of the G.O.'s etc. For the det. test there was a guy selling computer cd's. Where can we find G.O. on cd? This class website has the reading material they suggest on there, so if you had G.O.'s you could brush up at home. Any contacts for the CD, let us know.

On the computer at work- drop new folder on the desktop- right click the order you want- then save as and name it- when you're done you can then zip the folder and send to yourself as an attachment to an email.

Roberts will have you make up questions from a G.O.

then you hand in your questions with answers, and then roberts makes a "test" from all the questions handed in by the group.

so now your answering questions based on on another P.O.'s interpertation... GOOD LUCK ON THAT

If anyone here is serious about the Sgt. or Lt. tests sign up with the Roberts study group. John Roberts is a sharp guy and he knows these tests. Glad to see him making a few bucks now giving the study class. He gave numerous other classes for free before he retired.

Time to keep an eye out for all those house mouses, and those with spots.
From now until the test it will be 2 hours of work, 2 hour lunch, 4 hours study.
the rest of us get to keep working the streets, doing the job.
A very unfair playing field, not even counting CPD's favorite sons who will be studying the test, literally. Now add the "merit" spots, and tell me, what are the regular joe's chances for promotion?

Before the Detectives test, we saw the same group of officers studying in the lunch room and auditorium for at least 2 hours every day, WHILE ON DUTY.
We even had "critical facility" foot posts (stationary, indoor) created so the clout-bunnies could spend their ENTIRE TOUR studying.

Ask Don Jerome. He was on the medical for 6 months before the last test. Blew out his knee while playing basketball on city time. Then ends up in the first Sgt's class. Go with the medical, it's a proven winner.
