- Rumor is if you have direct deposit, once the city figures out what your check should have been, you'll have to cut them a check for the difference. If you receive a check(not direct deposit),you're to return it and they'll cut you a new one once they figure out what the proper amount is. I also heard that it appears to be only supervisor's checks. Haven't been into work yet today so don't know if that's a fact.
We don't know about you guys, but we're going to need two accountants to figure out our freaking taxes this year. We've heard that we're getting two W-2 forms because of the switch over. Now we're going to need an expert in Sanskrit to figure out how everything goes together.
Is this grievable? Can we get the City to pay for our accountants? Because they are really starting to PISS US OFF.

Dammit! I've dealt with that district on all 3 watches, and that was the watch I liked most. As in, I actually liked more than a few on the watch.

Ive been in 016 for 12 years.There are some hard working coppers there,and a few who should not be there,JUST LIKE THE DISTRICT YOU WORK IN. If its so bad Please move out of the district. Im a few years older than most, I would help any policeman for just about anything they needed. However I am getting tired of your rantings. You are having a negative effect on a number of officers in the district and you are bringing the credibility of this blog down. Its time to give it a break. Yeah its a great system. For months my overtime and special checks did not have federal taxes taken out of them. When I called Finance to complain they told me I should fill out a withholding and have another 100 dollars taken out of my regular check a month because they could not help me. When I called FOP they told me there was nothing they could do until the computer glitches were worked out by the city. That was In October. In Dec I did not get my Uniform check (Like so many of you) and I called FOP again where I got the speaker phone and no help. Then I got my check later as a LIVE check, Not direct deposit. Now this with the Sgts. If we F$$ked up this bad on our reports there would be CR#s on us. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! since the city did it its OK. Go out and buy some KY boys and Girls, your gonna get it real hard when you do your taxes.

As far as the overage in the supervisor's quarterly checks goes, a teletype will be sent out tomorrow addressing the issue. Apparently the idiots at Finance screwed up all the checks.
Needless to say, the City is going to deduct the overage from our next paycheck, so don't go spending all that money.
Being that Finance is a division of the Police Department and CPD employees, they are subject to the same rules and regulations as sworn officers. Perhaps the Sergeant's union should obtain a CR# against the Director of Finance for inattention to duty. Maybe then they would quit screwing up all the paychecks to our detriment.

I dont know anything about the rumor going around about direct deposit and if there is an error you would be responsible for cutting the check..however if you read the direct deposit application it states the city has the right to withdraw funds it deposited in your account in error. So if your check is a little dont spend it all in one place....would my bank charge me NSF charges if I spent it and the city later tried to withdraw? you bet your ass they would so be careful.

You'll never change the mindset of the 16th District officer. The old guys are set in there ways and ready to retire and the young guys have already been ruined by the slow, I don't give a shit attitude of the older guys. There are working officers in 16, but not enough. And Sgt.'s that try to come down on the dogs don't get any support from the higher ranks.
The only way it will change and the only way we can change it our level is for as many working officers that can need to bid into the district and take it over. Every time there is an opening and you can make the bid; do it. If no working officer is will to do that, then quit your complaining.
The idea of splitting beats and adding more officers is a great one, but the only thing we can control at our level is the bid.
So get in there guys and "make a difference". The simple fact that working officer don't bid in shows a lack of priorities; protect our homes first.

Why is it that my paycheck is not the same every pay period? Why does it change a couple of cents every time?

A jail guard under normal situations around us, is a Cook County Sheriff, therefore he is sworn, peace officer..aka police officer and they're there to assist us whenever we need it.
After a small incident in the suburbs, a call to local 911 CCS responded immediately to the scene and went beyond what he had to do.
With no whining or any bullshit from him towards us. (the real police)

I hate to inform you but....Cook County Sheriff's are NOT "police officers" they are "CORRECTIONAL officers...only the Cook County Sheriff's "Police" are sworn police officers as are we....big difference....I don't know that correctional officers even have police powers....they cannot make arrests and cannot stop vehicles etc...they can detain people but I am almost certain that they are not sworn with "police powers" so to speak...CCS Police are real police but they go through actual police academy

Because a 'jailguard' aka correctional officer who is deputized, is a peace officer. That means he's authorized to carry a sidearm, and is probably armed. Now when you come on the scene, you'll expect that.
And don't go giving me any of that "real police" bullshit. And NO, I'm not a 'jailguard' I'm sworn CPD.

Unless they get jammed up, Cook County Correctional Officers are also deputized. That makes them peace officers with the authority to carry a sidearm and make arrests. There are times they are de-deputized and lose their peace powers, but almost all of them are also deputies.
As peace officers they may make arrests, but need a police officer to facilitate that arrest. Exception: Cook County Sheriff's Police - they are Police, and don't need anyone's assistance.

First lets address the corruption that allows these goofs to get that job as "correctional officer" in the first place. It starts by having a poliical connection in Cook County government (Stroger for example). You or your mommy pays a nice "contribution" to the re-election campaign fund to the politician and "bing,bam.boom" you got a job. I know this first hand so before you get started " I did'nt pay nobody to get my job!" Sit down and shut up. Second I happen to know of (4) examples I can give you to back up my statement. While I was in the academy (3) of these "correctional officers" tried to get on our job, fortunately for all of us "they all pissed hot" and were fired instantly. A few years later I go to court at 26th & Cal and all three at back at work as "correctional and now court officers". Another example a wanna be the police type takes the exam to become a CHA police officer and fails the psychological exam. FAILS IT, who fails that I ask you? This yahoo has his mommy pay off "politician (A)" and amazingly enough he is now a "correctional officer" AND now allowed to carry a firearm. This genius is caught stealing prisoners property, arrested for stalking 3 times, aggravated CSA with a gun, agg. assualt of a CPD Sgt. and has been stripped at least 4 times of his badge yet.... he is still working there and has been subsequently been promoted!
I took the time to research exactly what authority these "dangerous" types have and found out 1. IF THEY WORK AS CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS THEY HAVE NO POWERS OUTSIDE THE JAIL THEY WORK IN (yet they always land part time work because they lie to their employers and say that they are the police) Like a security guard they are only allowed to carry their weapon to and from work. If they are assigned to different units within the correctional system like court officer or delivering summons or handling evictions then they may carry their weapons outside the jail and off duty. The "ONLY" prerequisite for having that job is paying off the right person and having a job for life.
Now that being said there are some good guys and gals that had that job and what usually happens is that they move on to better jobs and only use that job as a "over glorified security guard/turn key" as a stepping stone to a "real police" job. Anyone who stays on that job is "soft" OR like the examples I've listed above can't get a job anywhere else because any legit police agency won't hire their dope smoking ass. So spare me the "we are the police B.S." because your not. A word to the wise all you wanna be the police types out there if you screw up out here trying to play the role or try and flash your toy badge trying to get a break out here your going down if I have anything to do with it because like a police officer you can be charged with Offical Misconduct. Look for a lot of those "correctional officers" to go down with the Randy Rencher scandal. He's running his mouth to the feds about how things are done there on 26th street. Sheahan is retiring before the fit hits the shan!
FYI: If everyone would take the time to read the bottom of the form in which you requested that your check be direct deposited, then you will see that you authorized the City to go into your account to debit it for any amount which was found to be deposited in error. Now let's see. Hmmm, I got my Correctional Officer job by taking the test, getting certified by the merit board, and talking to a recruiter at a COLLEGE job fair.
I was subsquently scheduled for an interview and was hired by the Sheriff's Office as a Correctional Officer. NOTHING more to it oh great one.
I was NEVER asked to do political work, was NEVER asked to do ANYTHING at all once I was hired period.
So know-it-all, everyone there is not hired due to political corruption.

Let's see, being DQ'd at the psych exam for one department and then getting hired by another department HAPPENS ALL THE TIME Rocket Scientist. You see, you do not fail the Psych test, your profile is not what Department A is looking for.
If your profile says you are an aggressive problem solver and department A is looking for a laid back look to your supervisors for guidance type personality, you will be DQ'd.
The tests do not mean someone is not meant to carry a firearm.
The county does not have pysch examinations.
For the people who "pissed hot," if they were on a leave of absence and were fired, they would be able to return to their job. If they were retested and passed the drug screening they are back on.

Sec. 2‑13. "Peace officer". "Peace officer" means any person who by virtue of his office or public employment is vested by law with a duty to maintain public order or to make arrests for offenses, whether that duty extends to all offenses or is limited to specific offenses.

The homicide in 007 was after 1300 on the 1st. There was no "or two". I'm not a Tillman fan, but you make people who don't like her sound stupid when you make shit up and just throw it out there. Is it just the CPD having payroll problems or is it city wide = all departments?
One thing I could always count on while I've been on this job, and that's payday. The timekeeper may make an error, but the paycheck was always on time.
Now I get a check that's obviously way too much! What are they going to do about it? Suck it out of my bank? Have me write a check? Take it out of my next check? I hope someone has an answer by Monday so I can figure out my budget.

In your original post you inferred having people babysit Dorothy's party was responsible for 2 homicides. Well it wasn't. When you make shit up you lose credibility. You know credibility, like when you get caught bullshitting the judge and now you have no credibility for your future one baggers. No one believes you after that. It's a simple concept.
I will not bash any uniformed Cook County people, as they to have a thankless job. When one f's up, you shouldn't blame them all, always a few bad seeds in any group. Several years ago, we on viewed a real Hatfield-McCoy type shootout on 69 Pl., just west of Damen. I for one was glad when the off-duty Cook County jailguard came to our assist before we even finished calling for help. A whole family went to jail that night, and the off-duty guy happily got on the paper and made an excellent witness at court, I just hope he may now be one of us, this guy was good.

I work with CCDOC guys and retired P.O.'s at my side gig.
One retired P.O. told me, "Kid, in my entire career, I never once pointed my gun at anyone." I know my mouth dropped wide open when I incredibally asked him, "Not once? Ever?"
So, personally, I would rather have the CCDOC guys come to my aid than this guy.
They have a thanksless job, no matter how you look at it. Like previous posters have said, there are assholes on both jobs.

Dorothy's party might not have been responsible for the murders but a good question would be as follows: Why does the alderman get to shut down all streets for several blocks and have over 100 policemen assigned to a private party. It was not thrown by the city but by the alderwoman. She should be made to reimburse the city for the cost of security. She should be able to afford it as over 1 million dollars disappeared under her supervision when the building was going to be called the lou rawls center. He (RIP) had enough sense to request that his name not be associated with the building or alderman Tillman. Why arent the feds invesitgating her? Answer = Cause they dont want to upset the natives.
