And if you want to see a truly disgusting bit of reporting and you have a high speed connection, check out this whinny citizen and his wife claiming there was no reason the police shot him 25 times (except for the fact he had just shot TWO officers) and "Let 'em Go Leo" Holt attempting to excuse his conduct. Anyone know why this guy left CPD?

On the night of the IAD Christmas party a Sergeant rolled his Department vehicle, which had a civilian inside it. He was heading back to the souhtside when this happened. The whole thing was kept hush hush and there wasn't even a cr.
Anybody got any other info on this? My source swears it really happened as he saw the car.
Add another police officer to the growing list (unfortunately) of officers who think their star is a magic talisman. At least he didn't kill anyone. I'm sure the job is gone.

I was running errands early Saturday morning (Dec 31), when I happened to drive under that viaduct on CLybourn. There were car parts everywhere and the car looked like it had been bombed. I didn't know P.O.'s were involved until I got to work yesterday.
One of the injured P.O.'s is paralyzed from the neck down....

I was working the night this happened and responded to the 10-1/shots fired just like everybody else on zone10 and the citywides.
From what I can remember TRU and 010th District PO's were responding to loud reports in this area that THEY heard. That piece of shit's car was lights out AND observed going the wrong way on a one way---in a high crime area!
He WAS uncooperative with PO's when they stopped him and he DID draw down on them and opened fire.

The R/R copper had fifteen years on CPD when he got caught living in Bellwood. I have been unable to verify this info, was told this by a Burlington Northern RR Cop.
I can’t and won’t speak to the guilt or innocence of Howard Morgan.
What made this story interesting for NBC 5 was because it’s a rare day when they can get any defendant who has a lawyer that will let him talk before trial. That, in and of, itself is why they let him tell his side of the story.
This case is strange to say the least. What motive could a middle-aged ex-CPD guy now working as a railroad dick have to attack cops after a traffic stop. My thought are he like most of us when stopped for our crappy driving turn the event into a social visit. I don’t think there are too many CPD officers that would have given Morgan a citation for a minor traffic violation under normal circumstances. What in Hell went so wrong?
I’d also say that if Morgan had something ugly in his background coopers would be shouting about it from the rooftops. I say it’s safe to assume he has no violent history. This entire event makes no sense whatsoever.
If I was to make a guess it would be that the event was prompted by some misunderstanding or bizarre accident. Were the majority of those fired shots simply, sympathetic fire by CPD officers?
I hope a jury that will be equally fair to both sides of this mess and resolve this case in a just manner. As for the bail issue, every cop knows or should not that primary issue of bail is to insure a defendant’s appearance in court. I don’t believe anyone thinks that Morgan is a flight risk.
As for that, ammunition issue within the department. Officer’s safety should be the number one priority of the FOP. This ammunition mess has been going on for too many years. The failure of the FOP to do something about it is inexcusable. We know that the worthless mayor of Chicago would arm all CPD officers with water pistols if he had his way. Except of course in the case of his bodyguard detail. With any luck his bodyguards will be replaced with federal prison guards soon.

To those of you left of center, always two sides to every story, kind of overly educated police officers: I submit that while I do not have 22 years on the job, I have enough to know that when I've pulled or have been pulled over the first words I've heard/said were "Hey office(r) I work in/at such Unit/District/Department" w/the credentials all ready being produced or asked for. The the undisputed fact of this whole thing was Mr. Morgan had been in one form or another the police or RR dec for almost his entire adult life. I have a hard time believing that if he identified himself in the first place that any of this would have happened. Common sense and two minutes on the job would tell you that. Sorry about the run-on sentences, grammer errors and any gross misspelling. All stay safe.

016 probably didn't respond in a timely manner due to the fact that they were "busy". This must be the case, as each time I've called this was the excuse I was given by the officers after waiting over an hour for them to arrive.
Funny thing though. . . 016 is always "busy" but nobody ever gets arrested.
I know what it was. . . the accident happend during the 1st Watch and all the coppers were at home sleeping.

Before you start blaming the WHOLE ENTIRE DISTRICT. Why don't you check the facts. What else was going on in the district? When it was actually dispatched? ETC?
I handled a crash the other day that was dispatched to me at 0730 it happened at 0615. Is it my fault? I got it at 0730 and was on scene at 0740. And yes, it did take me 10 minutes to drive from the station to my beat,that's how big the district is. You know why we have so many people bitching about 016? Because over 5000 of you live here. That means at least a copper domestic a day, sometimes a shift. It means way more calls for service. I am not a dog, I go from job to job and from one end of this fucking district to the other as fast as I can bottom line is it's too big and we have no manpower. Today we have 6 rapid response cars. We really haven't seen ANY since NOVEMBER. We are getting killed with some major crimes that require a little more attention than a 5 minute time frame. I will check the pdt regarding this accident and see what it says. I will post the facts.
I just hope for the sake of the coppers involved that the ASA brings in a REAL firearms/defensive tactics expert to help bolster the officer's version of events. They usually bring in that nutcase Marsh. That guy was nuts when he was teaching at the academy.
Although I doubt the civil trial will ever get off the ground because of the city's cowardice towards any lawsuit. They will be signing the check to Leo before this guys hits prison.

Suggesting that the event makes no sense to me does not take sides. If wanting a fair and objective is wrong, then I'm on the side of wrong.
Being a cop in Chicago is dangerous. You can be killed or get hurt. There’s also real danger is to your livelihood and reputation.
I’ve seen many a good cop dragged through the mud and fired or worse for simply doing their job. There are so many cops out there fear a beef more than they fear a bullet and the result is they avoid making arrests.
Only writing a few parkers, and make a couple of reports every day keeps the OPS and IAD away, maybe. There are still cops that believe in doing the job right and risking it all.

Hey I live in 004 having a car respond in 20 minutes, I would piss myself. 1 hour is a good response on the south end of 004 2 hours in about the norm... this is for any type of call.

I will buy the argument that Morgan may have said something that was heard as a threat or insult and things got out of control. It would not make sense that Morgan really made threats or insult.

It's my hope that this whole thing was just an ugly accident and nothing more. An accident, none the less.

If the prosecutor's did not ask for and get such an order that would be a real crime. Such an order would be really easy to get in a case like this. An examination of the court file would show such and order or at least the Motion to obtain one. Court records are public records the media is free to examine.
The "investigation" has been going on a long time, right?
Remember its the CPD and the prosecutors that are the first to try these cases on TV. The begin with those press releases. The defendants are always better of when they keep their mouths shut.

Blood work for alcohol is immediately destroyed. A court order for the blood must be secured right away. With all the hoopla involved in a police shooting, this is unlikely to be an immediate concern, especially at 1am. Why don't you ask Morgan what happened? Write yourself a little screenplay about a good man wronged. Shit, you could even put the officers at a Klan meeting before work. Think of it as your own version of "The Hurricane". I can't imagine the ASA's and dicks not getting a court order for the blood work before the sun came up. You know the defense WILL bring the blood reports in if they're favorable. Of course if they're not the defense will try to keep it under wraps.

Any copper who can carry a .45 should. The 9MM is too weak for police work even with better ammo.

I carry either the SIG 220 or the 245 with the extended mags. I have both. I also have a 14 round Glock 21 that spits out the rounds very well. My PI licenses and permits let me carry what I qualify with.

The only thing needed would be court order to obtain a blood sample to be worked up by our lab. That's it...

9:11, the head of the Dulles Airport (Virginia) Transportation Security Administration was arrested and charged with DUI on New Year's Eve several years ago. WHILE ON DUTY. After being stopped twice.
I don't recall, but there was a female sgt. in 005 7 or 8 years ago who got into something while drinking on duty. Don't recall if she was DUId and I don't recall what events got her into trouble (again, while on duty).
Do coppers have an extraordinary drinking problem? I'd rather not see it come to arrests, but perhaps departments need to be a LOT more active in encouraging people to avoid DUI and address drinking excesses. I have no problem with a glass or five, but I have no problem with police enforcing the law, even against other police! Don't want nuthin, don't start nuthin.

Going home from work i hit a pot hole at Fullerton and Cicero around 2am, Vehicle was not driveable I called 911 and informed them that i am an off duty p.o. that had a a/a w/o injuries and that my vehicle wasnt driveable could you please send a car to do a report(and yes even a ride home) 1/2 hr goes by nothing, i call the desk and ask to check if the job was given out,the desk tells me the job was given out but that she will send them a message and advise that it is a off duty p.o.another 1/2 hour goes by and nothing. again i call the desk and talk to the same female p.o. and asures me she will send them another message. At that point i call my brother to pick me up, another 1/2 hr passes and still no car .I drive with my brother to 025 and speak to the same female p.o. and asked her what ever happened to the beat car. She was embarassed that she apologized for them and kicked out my report in a few minutes. So the moral of the story is that there are dogs every where and at least 016 showed up and didnt completely blow off another p.o.

The ad desk can't give you that information. Nobody is supposed to give anyone information unless they initiated a call or they receive the call on a pax (secure)line.
Otherwise, standard training is that NO information is given out by personnel over unsecure lines. Its not like they can check your identification over the phone.
Not defending any particular individual here. Just saying, nobody is supposed to be giving out dispatching information over the phone except under the circumstances outlines above. It happens, and I did it myself when I was talking to, e.g., someone I knew, but yours did what she was trained to do.
The reasons for the secrecy (security) should be pretty apparent...
