Knock off the Troll Baiting
Could we please knock of the naming of certain coppers and the constant bashing of certain specific beats AND the other garbage that gets posted by certain trolls regarding Washington? You people who do this are just symptoms of a disease that is wracking this department: lack of pride, lack of respect and a certain lack of decorum.
We'll say this again - THIS IS A PUBLIC BOARD. People wander in and out all the time. Our old acquaintance "Fearmonger" has been surfing the board and directing traffic our way from various media sites (MediaLine.com). People have pointed out that there are at least two sites (one at UIC, one affiliated with the State Police) that monitor this site seemingly 24 hours a day. We won't even go into the "sniffer" programs that happen to be on each and every department computer (why do you think the department went from "dynamic" to "static" IP addresses? Do a file search for "sniffer" and see).
We recognize the difference between ball busting (our recent photoshopping) and total rip jobs . Lately, all that seems to be in the comments are rip jobs. We get it that you are unhappy with someone. Now either address it with them or get over it. You're wasting everyone's time and you're certainly pushing the bounds of good taste.
We don't like lists. We don't like lists. We don't like lists. That being said, we have the ability to institute comment checks, verifiers and other nonsense that would make it easier for us to weed out the bullshit AND MAKE IT EASIER FOR SOMEONE TO TRACE WHERE AND WHEN COMMENTS CAME FROM. I think 016 is just way too big. Increase the watch and/or District compliment and maybe something could be patrolled consistently. there are neighborhoods in 016 that never get passed through twice in one week by the beat car. SHIT...a beat in 016 is bigger than the entire 15th District.

Former NYPD Officer Edward Polstein was fired recently after his superiors took offense to some flash animations on his website that included images of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.
Posting on a site he created called “NYPD Rant,” Polstein wrote under the screen-name “Polecat.” He was an emotional and angry critic of management and before long his website was receiving 60,000 hits a day.
Polestein was eventually brought up on charges by the Internal Affairs division and subsequently reached an agreement with the NYPD which allowed him to resign with a $23,000 annual pension. But after that, Polestein was approved for an annual disability pension of $60,000 for a job-related injury.
The NYPD has called this a breach of the initial agreement Polestein signed and fired him and revoked his pension altogether. Polestein’s now appealing that decision with the state Division of Human Rights and the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission.

Plenty of people get talked about on this site. Only a handful of them got on their soapboxes and ranted about how "unfair" the criticisms were.
That 025 officer and his cronies, complete with delusions of grandeur, should just be quiet and let it go. There are probably some very good reasons he keeps getting brought up.

It seems that people have some things to say and don't want to say it publicly because they don't want to get dumped to A/5 Parking Lot Security detail, or endure some other assinine harrassment from a white shirt just because he / she said some things that needed to be said.

Everybody in your roll call, other roll calls, and across the city would take a bullet for any other Police Officer. If you don't like the person, you don't like the person. He or She is still a Police Officer and we all hurt when one gets killed, and we celebrate the small victories. We do that together.
To hell with everyone else, we stand together. If we don't, then the entire History and tradition of being a Police Officer, the "Blue Line", the trust, and the Brotherhood, was all in vain.
You don't have to like someone, but you have to remember that not everyone likes everyone. We would run out of room naming back and forth all the people that bug us. It's just not part of the solution.

SCC You are correct in regards to this post. However you as the administrator set the tone. Now before you threaten to put me up against the wall when, "The Revolution" comes,listen to those that are critical of your actions. Example the continuous derision of the F/ at the Midway incident, no you didn't out her, but those who published did, and you allowed it, and then ran with the ball. The comments about Exempts with personal problems, you let that remain, you even mentioned him by name in your posts. As I said you set the tone, this post was informative, it was interesting to see the depths of dispair on this job, the lack of morale and the lack of confidence in the leadership. I would hope the exempts that monitor this blog would take heed and listen. But as of late it (blog) has become nothing more than a way to demean and backbite those that the publisher cowardly refuses to confront. If the rumor, statement is untrue, the person should consult an attorney. As to the "job". From day one in the Academy you learn that the job is fixed and clout is the rule. Either meet people, get wired up, and get what you want, or jsut shut up. We expressed our disgust with her, her actions and her cavalier attitude. And what happened? Nothing that we can tell. She's still going to get her stripes and hopefully, she's going to learn something. But we doubt it. People like that never learn. So we bust her balls as it were - too bad for her. It's the only outlet available and it's completely within cops natures to do that. It'll die out. It always does. But the stories will remain forever. And we understand the difference between ball busting and making fun of someone's dead mother. There's a line and we haven't been anywhere near it.
Our tone is what you expect from a copper who sees the world with open eyes. We have few illusions of this job. We know too many stories, some of which are repeatable; some not so in polite company. When certain exempts are (maybe) DUI'ed and driven home by suburban departments other times while regular guys sit at call back for the same thing, you kind of lose your idealism. When you hear the story about Trigg pissing hot not once, but at least twice, AND NOTHING HAPPENS TO HIM, you realize that there are two sets of rules for people on the job.
Sure, we realized when we started the blog that there would be the tiny brains who'd use it as the bathroom wall. And we are the only guys with the can of paint. Such is our lot in life. We can handle it.
Unfortunately, this department is in a morale death spiral. We have little qualified manpower coming up. We have very few quality bosses. We are run by lawyers and accountants. Our only hope is a wholesale shake up of the political administration, otherwise it's going to get a lot worse before it gets any better.
All of the above being said, you really don't merit a spot against the wall for having an opinion. We don't judge ourselves as harshly as you judge us simply because we're much closer to the source than you are. So no wall for you as we usually start with the lawyers (and pretend lawyers) first.

We try all the time. You might not notice, but almost a hundred comments disappear from this website every two weeks. Some people get the message and stop posting the bullshit. We post a reminder about once a month that the public does wander in and read stuff all the time. And long time readers might recall the day we got over 2,000 visits from as far away as Australia and Japan due to someone linking us and trying to smear the site. So we're doing our job. There is no "about time you tried to stop the insanity" going on here. We've been trying since day one.

We are all different in our own ways. If we all had the same opportunitys that everyone bashed on this site may have had, we all would of done similar things.

When I need to talk or vent, when I am upset, when talking to your spouse won't help with whats going on, I choose other Police Officers; Ones I can trust. The weight of this job sometimes, and then there is that plus home, plus money, plus, well, name it.
We should be able to take care of each other. If we as a team have one perfect element of self sufficiency, it should be always knowing that you can talk to someone at work.
A hotline has been proposed several times over the years. Like anything and everything else on the Department the idea went nowhere. Why? The rank rule. The rank rule states that anything proposed must come from an exempt rank member. Those below exempt rank are not qualified to make any proposals to make changes that would benefit the department.
The rule can be found in the Exempt Handbook under the chapter titled "Your Ego Surpersedes Their Intelligence."

The Bosses don't even know your name unless something happens to you. Then, suddenly you are the best Copper in history. When Brian Strouse Passed, the Funeral up on Devon was packed with people, obviously. Brian was a great guy. The Bosses would not let the rank and file P.O.'s park near the church because they needed spots for all the black sedans. They turn it into a spectacle while the people that really knew the guy sit on the outskirts trying to pay respect to a FRIEND, not some copper. Well...this incident is sounding more and more like fact. Can the po that has a copy of the report please forward it to friends on the job and throughout the units? Something like this needs to be exposed to po's that are NOT in the know. I'm the type that has to see it for myself, so if it gets out, I'll definitely catch a glimpse. I have friends in 016-3rd watch that came out of working districts and units who definitely know how to MAKE THE CASE so I'm going to have dig around. TRULY, TRULY SAD if this is the best our coppers can do in 016. I hope I never need them to help out my direct and extended family.

Curry has buddied up to every boss in 025 for the last 10 years. Shame on the bosses for allowing it. I know Curry was the police, has been in some shitty situations (some from being the real police, some from being stupid) in the past, and was in the Army, so I give him credit where it is due.

When you have JC doing what he wants, and at the same time:
1) SGT's trying to SPAR a guy for going off the DOC, while he is arresting several guys for UUW.
2) SGT telling a p/o who used his pepper spray "I can't have you working for me if your going to be doing this."
3) SGT's who never leave the station, never respond to a job to "supervise."
4) a SGT who spent most of his steet time in a pawn shop playiing video games (not suggesting he's on the pad, don't want to be slanderous).
5) a desk SGT who will immediately get a CR on a copper, without any debate from the J/O.
The slamming of Curry is not so much a statement about him, as it is the venting of working guys against the bosses who appreciate a good laugh, but not good work.

In any other District, responding Beat Officers would have taken initiative and solved the problem on Harlem by making a point (making an arrest). But then there is 016. Coppers stand there and let the assholes control the situation. Take a look at 016's administration and tally how much street time most of them have. Sector Sgts in any other district have mre tactical experience than 016's tact sgts. the entire regime, as said, should be assembled with the best we can get.

Just read the comment about European police by dispatchers in 002. I worked in 002 in the late 60"s for Bob Harness at 48th and Wabash for 2 1/2 years and NEVER heard a dispatcher ask for European officers. That's BS!

As much as I enjoy being the Police, I worry about driving thru 016 on the way to work or going to the store and having to take Police action against the beast while off-duty. There are only a handful of working Police officers in the 016th District. To those who were at 3258 N. Harlem on New years Eve...and for those who want to know how the event went down. Here is the short story: Mr. Tyrone Gangbanger wins the City of Chicago lottery by collecting a large sum of cash he won after sueing the city. (I am assuming it was against the police)
Shithead now buys a congo-minium in this new building with his winnings. At the stroke of midnight, Shithead and a few more of his gangbanging buddies go on to a rear patio area and light up the night sky with a 9mm. An off-duty who lives in the building calls 911 and 016 arrives. Shithead is again shooting. Keep in mind there are about 100 M/1 & F/1's in this congo unit. As coppers are making their way into the unit, coppers are being motherfucked, taunted and provoked into a battle. Several F/1's fled and probally with the gun(s). After calls for more help, Mr. White guy is on his balcony taking video's of the scene on Harlem not to mention the F/1's and the camera phones.
Rather than have all there be named in another law suit from Shithead, all were told to leave. If you have ever been named in a Federal lawsuit, you know it was the smartest thing to do. To any of you that were not on the scene at Harlem and Belmont on New Years Eve you should get your facts straight. An off duty cop from the 017th district anonymously called 911 to report shots fired from 3258 N Harlem. He did not identify the offender other than saying it was a M/B. He supposedly was looking right at the guy but could not identify him. WHen the police responded nobody was mother fucking anyone. The door was opened to the party and there were approx 75 peoople in the party(all black) At that point there were 6 cops in the hallway. The occupants of the party were told that the party was OVER and that they had to leave. They were also told that we (the police) were coming in to search for the gun. We were coming in regardless of what the occupants felt was legal or not. They started to leave and each person was searched as they left. After approx 40 people left the 016th dist police entered the apt and searched the apt for the gun. NO ONE WAS FIGHTING with the police. Words were exchanged but if you are that thin skinned that you cant take a word or too that isnt to your liking you shouldnt hold this job anyway. The gun was not located. This was probably due to the fact that the 017th district cop after he called 911 anonymously created a delay for the police to get into the building to quell the disturbance. NO OFFICERS from 016 called a 10-1 as it was under control. Another officer from 017 called the zone on the phone and called in a 10-1. He was not even on the scene. The garage was searched, the rooftop was searched, the condo was searched, the occupants of the apt were searched and no gun was located. The officers from 025 who responded and were outside, if you saw someone break the law why didnt you make an arrest. Do you need a supervisor to order you to make an arrest? If you want to ask questions, why did the off duty cop call it in anonymously? How come he couldnt identify the offender when he was looking right at him? He identifies the offender we can arrest him. How come an officer who is not even on the scene calls in a 10-1 when things are under control? I'm writing about the comments made about the way the incident was handled at 3258 N. Harlem on 01 an 2006. All you so-called police officers who hide behind the anonymous name are the cowards. You call officers who respond to a shots fired call cowards, if their cowards why did they show up at all? I know the officers who were on the scene and not one of them have ever backed down from anything or anyone in their career. Most of the officers on the scene have been involved in more fights and made more felony arrest then the rest of who will ever do. And for who super cops who are going to judge four or six police officers for not storm trooping in on 60 to 75 drunk and high ghetto trash in a small apartment with the knowledge that a weapon was present, I like to know how many mob or riot situations who have been invloved with and I don't mean 10 of you on one shithead wth a dime bag. And then one of you have the nerve to talk about the way another officer writes a case report, try reading your own because I have and some of you can't even spell your name. The officer who wrote the report has more intelligence and knowledge then any of you. You guys have a lot of nerve bad mouthing a superior officer behind his back and anonymously. We had Batteries to Pos and we went into situations with maybe 7 or 8 officers and took control of about 200 savages in their enviroment. Thats called having balls and taking control.
