Not Quite There Yet, But ...

Another of our 2006 predictions is on the verge of becoming reality. We predicted that Bush's approval numbers would range in the "in the high 50's low 60's" and look here: Real Clear Politics has a link showing Bush's numbers averaged 46% today. ABC of all places had him at 47% and Rasmussen (usually recognized as the more accurate of pollsters) has him at 48%.

Reasons? Part of it is it's a mid term year. People are paying attention to politics again and realizing that (1) we haven't been attacked in 4+ years, (2) good news is coming out of Iraq in spite of the efforts of the media to downplay it and (3) people are becoming aware that the economy is moving forward at a pretty good clip. Combined with the Howard Dean foot-in-mouth disease, it's looking like a good opening to the year.

Downside? Probably not. The sleazebag influence peddler Jack Abramoff pled guilty today and will be turning state's evidence against a variety of Congress weasels and Senators. HOWEVER, as any good sleaze merchant does, Abramoff paid off both sides and Democrats efforts to make this into a "Republican" scandal are probably going to fall flat. Harry Reid is a big name on the other side of the aisle who not only accepted gifts, but had Abramoff hire a Reid staffer. Regardless of political leanings (yes, we mean you Lefty, Shady), everyone ought to applaud putting people like these behind bars and getting them OUT of the political process. Besides, when the approval numbers of Congress head south (as they certainly will), the numbers for the executive branch usually get a boost as Americans recognize the separate branches of government get graded separately.

UPDATE: From the Bloomberg report - Abramoff gave money to 220 members of Congress, 201 of which are still serving in Congress. 220!

Your boy the thatch clearer has escaped the weeds and is back on the fairway again- enjoy... while you can Dear "M"! Patty Fitz hasn't just been sitting around nutcracking all this holiday season. But hell it's a feelgood time of year- good bounce "Dubya"... hell- let's start calling him "FLUBBERya" if he can keep these bouncing poll numbers up... boing boing boing! - I hear the Repugs are gonna get soaked by at least a 3-to-1 margin on this Abramoff Mother of all Ab-Scams... won't that further the chances of the Congress swing back into Jackass control S.C.C. ? Are my numbers close- if 12 thieves get indicted, 9 Repubs to 3 Dems? Too Many? Does anyone here really give a damn unless a suitcase nuke goes off somewhere? --------------

How about B-E-A-R-S PREDICTIONS Dear "M"...?(50 % thread hijacking in-progress... can't - change - into - Gibron... phone - booth - too - small - ughn!;-)

Let's see Carolina Panthers at N.Y. Giants?
Washington Redskins at Tampa Bay Bucs?
Seattle vs ? Who will the Bears face after this first round? (apparently NOT Washington... they must go West to face top seed Seattle if they knock off Tampa.) I don't have a feel for how this is going to shake out yet... the Giants scare me because we haven't seen them, and Tiki has been en fuego- but then again we've somehow spanked the Pathers with Orton and almost went into overtime against TB when Kyle ran out of gas- but is facing either team a second time asking for a rude awakening? Let's not even think about Seattle yet... too cocky! Is Orton third on the depth chart after Lefty's Blake now? Can Grossman do the Jim McMahon thing and "intangible" Da Bears into Da Super Bowl? And can ANY of the NFC teams have a prayer against the Indy Colts, Denver Broncos? Maybe upsets are the key for our C.B.'s ! Maybe Jacksonville, New England, Pittsburgh or Cinci can be this years dark horse? (Imagine if the `85 Dolphins had made it to New Orleans- could they have beaten Da Bears a SECOND TIME? Sometimes greatness/championships are all about who you DIDN'T have to face, thank you very much! Anyway it crumbles - GO BEARS!!!!

Boy, 48 per cent. Wow! Hey M! that means more people hate em than like 'em. Even when Clinton was up to his "fun" in the Oval Office the numbers were not that low. Maybe the American public is seeing that YOUR president is not the president of the people.

Listening to sports radio (when not tuning in periodically to enemies of the state on WIND) it amazes me folks think Grossman or Ortman are playoff ready.

Seven games in three years? Come on, that's not even half a single season.

Ortman proved he was an adequate rookie, but he would have lost most of his games if not for the D.

The time is now to bring in Jeff Blake. A combat-proven veteran that shall lead us to the NFC title game versus Seattle.

from yahoo news

...
Abramoff, a former $100,000-plus fundraiser for President Bush with close ties to former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to conspiracy, tax evasion and mail fraud. That cleared the way for his cooperation with federal prosecutors in bringing charges against former business and political associates.

The investigation is believed to involve up to 20 members of Congress and aides and possibly several administration officials.

The timing couldn't be worse, politically, especially for Republicans. Lawmakers who may be indicted could find themselves coming to trial this summer, just ahead of the midterm elections. Around the same time, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, is expected to stand trial in the CIA leak case.

DeLay, who had to step down as majority leader in September after a grand jury in Texas indicted him in a campaign finance investigation, is awaiting a trial date. And former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, R-Calif., gave up his seat Dec. 1 after admitting he had accepted $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors.

With so many trials and prosecutions in the works, speculation is swirling over whom Abramoff might bring down and on the possible fallout for others.

Lefty stick with trying to suck the poor deprived asses, and sticking up for Hill Billy Clinton. The Bears future is Grossman not Blake. If Blake was so good and such a worthy veteran, why did not one team this season even let him try out? If he is so good what did lovie see of him not to let hime start in front of ortman? Nothing I tell you he is a good third string if you need him something went really wrong. Grossman win or lose is our guy and that will only help the Bears know what they have in him for the future.

Leftist, you got it wrong once again. George Bush is OUR President. OURS! As in yours and mine. Get it? OURS! OURS!OURS! The choice of the majority of Americans who voted. You don't get to pick and choose AFTER the election. Remember, he's ours. Repeat it 1000 times. George Bush is our President.

George Bush was NOT elected by a majority of the voters, and that's without any allegations of voters fraud. He is NOT my president and surely is NOT the president of the poor and middle classes.

He is YOUR president and he had lied to the American public. Shall you defend him when it is revealled all the Americans on whom were spied? Sure, there are folks that need to be looked at, but I doubt the Quakers are alligning themselves with terrorists.

And I am no fan of the Clintons. They are moderate Republicans in Democratic clothing.

Hey Lefty, Bush won the election with the required number of electoral votes and by the popular vote. The popular vote was by about 3.5 million over the Kerryman.

There is no such thing as patriotism in this country. Only conservatives, moderates, and communists.

No one ever said YOUR president didn't win the electoral college (don't forget Edwards received a single elctoral vote).

Vote totals show YOUR president won by less than 3 million votes and received about 50.5 per cent at the polls. Factor in those (registered) voters who stayed at home and shows it was not a mandate.

And NO, NO, NO, he is NOT my president. He is YOUR president and I do not recognize him.

Blue Poet:

As a collective, my family worships the memory of Ronald Reagan. Bush Sr. screwed a few things up. Bush Jr. is doing the war on terror idea right as a concept, but Rumsfeld definitely should not be SecDef. And the deficits aren't my idea of Republicanism.

All that said, I like all 3 more than Clinton, Carter or Ford.

But Nixon? That guy didn't believe in the Constution. Hate him.
