Remember in the movie "The Untouchables" where Kevin Costner (as Eliot Ness) finds a card in the pocket of Frank Nitti signed by the mayor of Chicago? It was a kind of a "Get out of Jail Free" type card - supposedly the stuff of story and legend but with more than a little bit of truth to it. "Big Bill" Thompson was a notorious cog in the machinery of the Outfit and did in fact grant favors of this sort regularly.

Acosta had a cozy relationship with John "Quarters" Boyle and the two exchanged numerous phonecalls and favors involving background checks, fundraisers, DUIs and construction. Now "Quarters" is serving 10 years or so and Acosta is going to trial this year for stealing $4,000 dollars from a police officer recognition fund.

On topic: I met Mike Acosta and knew him as a good boss who was fair and who had a reputation as someone who would help you out if you needed something. What a shame. I wish him the best.
I sincerely hope that the Burt Natarus connection does go somewhere. Seeing another AlderCreature slide down the chute of infamy would warm the cockles of my heart. If convicted, Natarus would probably pull the Vincente "The Chin" defense and claim to be a nutcase. It would be too far from the truth.

Are the Feds going to call Sgt. M. Kennedy-Susnis to testify? She handled all of Acostas business when she was his administrative sergeant, and it is a sure bet that she knows where some bodies are buried! She was thisclose to that stooge. She followed him to the airport, even though she had to drive the length of the city to get there.
Oh, and in case any federal investigators are monitoring this blog, she can easily be reached at the unit of her current assignment -- THE INTERNAL AFFAIRS DIVISION!!!!
When Harley Schinker was in Motor Maintenance, the city was able to cut a deal on some unmarked squad cars that were originally destined for another police department. Those cars just happened to be the ugliest shade of blue, and Harley, as he was known to do, gave the ugly cars to people he despised (Harry Hohm never had a chance at a coveted black one). Here comes Mikey Acosta to pick up his new car, and he is shocked to see that it is one of the ugly blue ones. Harley delivers the keys personally so he can enjoy the moment. Harley is still standing outside, and Acosta approaches him and says that he just CANNOT be seen in a car so ugly. Harley tells him that he has two choices � take the car that is assigned to him or walk. Acosta reluctantly drives off in the car that forever became known as Acosta Blue.

Rue St. Michel, I have to disagree with you. Acosta was like any boss, he had people who liked him and people who didn't. I one of the ones who didn't.
I'm sure Acosta was a "fair" and decent boss when he needed to be and to "his men". But I just didn't see it. Personally, I thought he was an arrogant and ignorant prick who would take care of his chosen few. I, for one, had a smile on my face the day I read about him in the newspaper.

Yet you say nothing of this subject...you don't attend your union meetings (Yes its a farce until YOU GET TOGETHER AND DEMAND CHANGE). Yet you don't attend trail dates of policemen killed on duty to show support. Yet you can't even respond to odpo/trafacc in 025 in a timely manner...WHERE'S the sympathy? When You young one's don't even care about each other, why would a boss, dic, or older patrolman stick their own neck out for you?
IF a Commander stole monie(s )from a fund-raiser, from police families, as the FED's alledged, and you are all the "real" police, as you all seem to state here, then why are you all so quiet?

A little (okay, completely) off topic, but the duty availability checks are once again screwed up. Rumor is if you have direct deposit, once the city figures out what your check should have been, you'll have to cut them a check for the difference. If you receive a check(not direct deposit),you're to return it and they'll cut you a new one once they figure out what the proper amount is. I also heard that it appears to be only supervisor's checks. Haven't been into work yet today so don't know if that's a fact.

Anyone heard about the judge at 26th who after sentencing a guy to 25 years, allowed him to go out in the hallway to say his goodbyes to his family, well guess what, he walked out and is in the wind; the offender was a high ranking member of the new breed from the abla homes in 012 and cannot be found. unbelievable..............
The camera comment isn't true, it is not mandatory to write someone just because you have a camera, you still have discretion, just like the state and suburbs.
The ONLY place there is any mention of when a ticket has to be issued is regarding traffic crashes.
Any other time, it's at the discretion of the officer whether to write or not to write. On a traffic stop, there is no rule that a ticket HAS to be written. :-)~~

It's pretty apparent that there is a drinking and driving problem on the CPD. There is also a helmut wearing problem for CPD motorcycle riders. A lot more cops have been ruined by DUI/reckless driving and motor-cycle accidents than by bullets from shitheads.
No one wants to be the bad guy or the dork who criticizes, so I guess we'll just keep going to coppers benefits and funerals.

Most cops have lots of physical courage. Would run into a hail of bullets, burning building to save a lot of strangers, not to mention another copper. Lack some moral courage though; when they see a wasted copper in a bar who they know is gonna try to drive home and they don't stop it. All the cool guys who ride W/O a helmut (and it seems most of them have lots of kids at home). I don't get it.

Back on topic...I worked for Acosta years ago. He was a decent boss and stuck his neck out for me regarding a personal issue. I'll always be greatful for that.
I know about all of the rumors/truths/etc. and that he like to "get his drink on". If anything, I figured he'd get in trouble for something related to alcohol or inappropriate conduct.

it's not just chicago. the burbs are just as bad. aprox. 16 yrs ago i worked 2 burbs west of the city and a fellow officer ticketed a young guy named frank nitti. the case was never called in 4th dist traffic ct. no record could be found. a lot of guys say " do you know who i am?" this guy wasn't kidding.

I'm not a cop but I visited this site after I heard about it from a colleague. What I find most AMAZING is how people who are supposed to be "brave" and "heroic" and the protectors of our great city are apparently too wimpy to give their names when they're criticizing people. I noticed mention of women's bodies, but not their work or work ethic.....let me guess, there is nothing wrong with their work so you had to come up with something else. I had a encounter with Acosta one night as he was passed out drunk in the drivers seat at a green light in the ghetto. After knocking on the window and asking him if we could drive him home, he began to mother fuck me for a good 5 minutes. long story, short we had to carry this jag off into his house and tuck him into his bed. Acosta is being charged by the FEDS because he wouldnt talk. They had him on wire taps, then asked him if he knew John Quartes Boyle, he said Fuck you, I know nothing. Therefore they hit him with the alleged "stealing of $4,000." of police benefit monies. Out of all the charges the FEDS have in the Hired Truck Scandal, this is all they have on him, circumstancial, they are squeezing him to see if he talks. People can say what they want, all bosses have their favorites and pass their friends and family along. It is a FACT that Acosta helped out families that if it were up to the CITY, they would be fucked. He helped alot of P.O.'s families get pensions, medical, even when it was the PO's fault, ALL BOSSES HAVE SKELETONS IN THEIR CLOSET!!!!Acosta got PO's families pensions when the city wanted to deny their claims, ex. death from an injury that occured while the po was off duty, suicide, etc.

At one point or another I worked closely with about 100 or so officers who were around in the '60s. From the stories I heard, its amazing how many unindicted criminals there are on this job... leading the department.
So I'm not saying that she never did anything wrong. If she did then let her pay. But the college question is flat-out wrong. Your standards for her would lead to the dismissal of 80% of the department if applied fairly to everyone.

I'm saying what the guys above said, except I don't have a problem with using the name of someone who is otherwise a public or quasi-public figure. Like exempts, people otherwise in the news, people charged with a crime (publicly) etc.
So I'm okay with using some names, just not the names of the grunts (non-exempt lieutenants and below on this department). I don't care what the context of the innuendo is, whether testing misconduct, corruption, stupidity, arrogance, DUIing another officer, whatever. The internet is accessible to anyone, and information about anyone can too easily be found using the internet. So leave the names out.
