And Another Thing Ms. Mitchell

When you said Officers Gilhooly and Rappaport were killed by hooligans who just happened to be Black Panthers, would you also say that Ricky Byrdsong was killed by a "hooligan" who happened to be a white supremacist?

And do you further believe that Matthew Hale, who spoke openly about killing Blacks and Jews in a race war bears no responsibility for the death of Mr. Byrdsong? It's almost a mirror image of Fred Hampton shouting "kill the pigs," isn't it? We'd call it identical.

Seriously Mary, we've got to know, how do you reconcile these two nearly identical situations in your mind without your brain exploding?

Spoke to Sun-Times columnist Mary Mitchell for about 15 seconds. She referred me to her editor and hung up.

As a lifelong Chicago resident and wife of a Chicago Police officer, I
respectfully request that you vote "NO!" on March 29th, 2006 regarding
the naming of the Chairman Fred Hampton honorary street sign.

RESPONSE:
Thank you for your email. However, we disagree. I will support
Alderman Haithcock's ordinance for an honorary street sign named for Fred
Hampton.

SCC,

I sent this email to Alderman Rugai last night.

Dear Alderman Rugai,
I am a Police Officer and live in the 19th ward. I respectfully request that you attend the next City council meeting and vote AGAINST the naming of a street after Fred Hampton. If you fail to attend the meeting, I will look at that as a positive vote. I'm sure that you are aware of the reasons for which this should not get approved.

She (or someone from her office) wrote back the following...

Thank you for your email. On March 1st at City Council, we honored a
young Policeman, Officer Eric Solorio, who was tragically killed in the
line of duty. He deserves an honorary street sign!

In the 19th Ward, we have 19 honorary street dedications: 3 police
officers killed in the line of duty; 1 fallen firefighter; 6 religious
leaders; 2 veterans who lost their lives serving our country; 5 educators,
1 director of a local senior citizen facility; and 1 for the Landmark
District Walter Burley Griffin. These are the only types of street
dedications that I have introduced and will continue to request at City
Council. I am opposed, and will never support, the dedication of the
honorary street sign proposed for Fred Hampton.

An individual alderman introduces an ordinance requesting an honorary
designation. As a formality, it is sent to the Committee on
Transportation, and then, to the entire body for consideration. Alderman Tom Allen,
Chairman of the Committee on Transportation, has championed reforms to
the process of honorary street designations; unfortunately, these have
not been adopted. He has introduced new legislation, which I support,
requiring a biographical summary before such an ordinance is heard by
the full Council.

Alderman Ginger Rugai

I am very satisified with her response. Hopefully other alderman will receive e-mail or letters regarding this issue.

And take it easy on our Sup. I thought that it was a fuc*ing brilliant response that he wants over 500 streets named after slain Officers. Good for him. I only wish Daley could say something on the issue.

It seems that the symbol of the culture of Chicago and many of its organizations is the "out stretched hand-PALM UP"!

Apparently the Chairmen of the FOP Special Events Committee are a little red faced today!

As you know the Illinois FOP State Convention will be held in Chicago the first week of July 2006.

In order to spare no expense for this gala event apparently they thought a contribution from our Pension Managers was a terrific idea! So they crafted a wonderful one page letter on FOP Letterhead with all the Trustees running down the left hand side and in effect offered the "out stretched hand PALM UP!

Remember donations not for the Police Memorial not for the Officer Down program but to insure that a "good time" was had by all of the 300 or so "convention attendees".

But wait did't three FOP endorsed people win election and don't those now pension board trustees decide who the pension managers will be! And might there not be an appearance of impropriety apparent.

The letters were addressed personally by name to the pension managers-

how were these names obtained by the Chairmen of the Special Events Committee.

The FOP website had listed these pension fund managers as "sponsors"
and luckily we have the names before (can you believe this) the names are no longer there and apparently FOP will return the money already sent hey mark a "little late" Thank you the apple doesn't fall far from the tree..

More to come. . .

Lets all go to St. Judes and honor our fallen brothers. We do nothing to honor the deceased by staying away. What we can do however to show our contempt, disgust and lack of respect for the exempts is this. DO NOT MARCH PAST THE REVIEWING STAND! Heres how it works. Last year the reviewing stand which will hold all the exempts was situated on Chicago Ave. just west of State St. When you get to the intersection of Chicago and State, go either north or south on State which will eliminate marching past all the exempts. It doesn't matter where they put the reviewing stand, the same principle applies. By doing this we can honor our dead brothers and yet return the contempt to the exempts that they show us.

I Agree Lets all go to St. Judes. If we wish to show our displeasure we should just keep eyes front or even turn away from the review stand and refuse to salute the exempt at the review stand. They are not going to gig the entire department.

3/09/2006 05:43:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why should we salute them? A salute is a sign of respect to a superior officer. Very few if any of the exempts are "superior" officers. BTW, I've NEVER saluted them as I passed by.

Your right, why would ANYBODY consider people like Maher,Kirby,Starks etc. as superior officers worthy of a salute?

we do have to go past the review stand if only because that is where the gold star famlies sit. remember they have paid the a high price to have those seats. least we can do is show them the respect of marching past.

3/09/2006 05:57:00 PM

Perhaps placing the hand over hearts would be a proper sign of respect to the Gold Star families. Combining that with a failure to salute, we also make a visible point that there is no respect or confidence left in the exempts.

Off-Duty Chicago Police Officer Apprehends Bank Robber

CHICAGO – An off-duty Chicago Police officer who was conducting personal banking
business at a North Side bank Thursday apprehended a robber who held up a teller.

Officer Kelly A. Davis was at Chase Bank at 1700 N. Wells St. around 9 a.m. when he
noticed a man in a Bozo mask who appeared to be armed with an Uzi. The man fled
from the bank and hopped on a bicycle to escape.

As Officer Kelly chased the offender, he called the 18th District Police Station to report
what he had witnessed. Kelly caught up to the offender in the 1600 block of North Park
Avenue and restrained him until other officers arrived.

The offender had in his possession cash taken in the bank robbery and a fake plastic
assault weapon. The offender was taken back to the bank and identified as the robber.

Due to Officer Kelly’s quick and heroic actions, a bank robber was safely apprehended
and no one was injured. Meanwhile, the proceeds from the bank robbery were returned
to the bank.

The offender was turned over to the FBI for charging.

Hand over the heart is the way to go for St. Jude. We have a duty to the Gold Star Families to honor them and to give the rest of the people up there the finger. In response to do something that speaks millions of words, we all go down to city hall on the 29th and park our cars around city hall and blocking the streets and attending the meeting. Who the hell in 001 is going to write us?
I know, there is always one.
Just as a side note, went to TARA and show a poster of the hate groups on the office glass, yeah the new black panther movement is on it. Gee, I wonder just how new it could be from the old one. Someone should bring that to the meeting. Stay safe everyone and don't lose your back bone. Hands over the heart for St. Jude!!!!!!

They are on board with us in this issue, no one should be against this. THIS IS NOT A SLAP IN THE FACE TO THE GOLD STAR FAMILIES. We just tell them what we are going to do, it's our march for them and no one elses. GOD BLESS, JAMES CAMP.

And while the Black Panther drama was playing out the Mayor sold Midway airport and passed a new tax on your water. Don't worry we have plenty of stuff left to sell. Who is this going to hurt the most in the long run? Oh I'm going to say black people or the poor in Chicago, if there are any poor in the city in 20 years. They now depend on state and city tax dollars for their welfare and and that pot keeps getting smaller since there is a minimum of federal money that comes their way. The Republicans couldn't lose the congress or White House if they tried, the Democrats are to thank for that. The problem is that the Repulicans are pretty happy leaving Illinois, Cook county and Chicago as the economic wasteland that it's becoming. They look at it is as an example to remind the rest of the nation of what happens when Democrats or people like George Ryan are left in charge. That money for welfare is going, going, going, soon to be gone. With the projects gone and the city gentrifying at an incredible rate, blacks are being pushed out of their traditional strongholds. And what are black politicans doing about this? Trying to rally around a dead anarchist.
I welcome the yuppies. Don't get me wrong, I'm not crazy about them. It's damn hard to even try to keep up with them when your single or married w/o kids. I'm just glad to see the city gentrifying. The yuppies can afford any taxes the Dems can throw at them right now in the short term, but that will change. One day they too will start to feel the pain of the Democratic tax burden and they will demand change. Right now the Democrats are little cautious not to tax the Yup/Yups too much. These taxes that mayor shithead keeps imposing (sales) is easy for the yups to afford but he doesn't kill them off with property tax increases (by percentage, yes your assessment goes up if your value goes up, but the percentage stays the same). By that time I doubt there will be any poor people or black neighborhoods left. I know a lot of us will miss Chicago as a blue collar town, but most of these neighborhoods have been ghettos for the last 20 years. I won't miss that.

Attention all, my wife is a good friend of a Gilhooly, and she told me tonight that their family is well aware of what is going on here. Thank ALL of you for keeping this going, but DO NOT STOP HERE!
St. Jude's is near, and it will be THE most single sign of support on this issue. Encourage ALL to go!!
Someone wrote a few day's ago (HE/SHE) inferred to be a boss, and diluted the spirit and the intentions of patrolman and woman who post here. Summurising that you are hastefull, and can't keep together, and so why would a boss (Themselves or the superintendant)speak up irrationaly on this issue. He/She furthered that the St.Jude's parade has had a dismall turn out in recent year's.
This is the opinion of one person who seem's, at best, to think only they are aware of what's going on, and that their opinion is absolute (This psychologicly does infact characterize a supervisor, or a very loneley, and angry person...there is help sir).
I have attended every St. Jude's day for well over a decade now, and the honor and support is TREMENDOUS!!!
The Gilhooly's are alive and with us...THEY WANT TO SEE SUPPORT, AND THEY DESERVE IT.
Attend the parade, forget the politics that day, and remember those who have fallen have families that are looking to us as a memory of those they have lost.
Ms. Mitchell if you had attended Mr. Camp's funeral, which you didn't (I did) ,you would have seen a solidarity of every color, and race wearing blue. You might have realized that the world doesn't only involve you and your plight. And you would have been ashamed at Mr. Jackson's need for attention inside the church...No one spoke of that!
My last thought, can any "old Timer's" get a hold of the Rappaport family, and if so please let us all know their view(s) on this mess?
Can you see Michigan ave. Gilhooly and Rappaport Ave.!!!!

Superintendent Cline may be the best ever. It is great he proposed that 500 streets be named for our fallen brothers and sisters. The fact remains, HE HAS NOT DENOUNCED THE SIGN. The Sup. needs to step up and say that the sign is WRONG. He needs to get onstage with everyone of his exempts, the presidents of all the unions and say he is against the sign, not that the community should decide.

Also, it took him 8 days to come up with this. Eight dasys the families and all of us as extended family of murdered officers had to deal with this. He should have phoned in from his vacation and told Monique to tell the press that he is againt the sign. Even if we get 500 signs, if the sign for Hampton goes up, they won.

Three cheers fro Alder woman Rugai.

The Supt's response to all of this is politically correct and scripted by City Hall; there are many things he could have/should have said, that he did not. Cops are, above all else, insighful. What has not been said is recognized by the rank and file as to define the "leadership" (or lack of). This issue will expose other pronouncements (i.e., the police memorial, the police foundation) as those which have been spoken for by......just another politician.

I think that was a great move by Cline. But I still haven't heard anyone mutter the word "NO" to these porch monkey's. It has to stop.I blame the politicians, these politicians are so worried about those votes. You should'nt be able to vote if you collect any type of funding be it city or federal. If you don't contribute by paying taxes you should not have a say about what is being done with money. Let's face it politicians promise to give and give for the vote.

Imagine if only the people who paid taxes by working, pensions house property taxes were only allowed to vote. Things would completely turn for the working people. politicians would promise to work for the working people in order to get that vote.

Im not saying take away from someone who is disabled, having a ruff patch in thier life. But take it away from blood sucking people who take advantage of us and use Section 8, Wik, Link,SSI,etc as a way of thier whole useless life. Stop fucking the tax payers and workers
