Has Anyone Heard Anything

... from downtown or anywhere else for that matter regarding the sign controversy? NYPD Rant has a couple threads going and a letter writing campaign is underway. No responses have been reported from any letter recipients so far. Any coppers down at 35th Street have a feel for what's going on down there? How about the FOP Board meeting?

UPDATE: We're working on something and we'd like any info ASAP.

You can write all the letters you want, but the sign ain't coming down unless King Richie orders it.

If you want to write a letter, write to Phat Phil telling him what a spinless hack he is that he can't do the right thing and speak out against this atrocity. How he can sit idly by and say nothing is beyond me!

When Cline became Superintendent, I thought he'd be great. Having only dealt with him while in A/5, he seemed to be the real police. Turns out, he is no different than any we've had in the past 30 years. If fact, hes probably worse, as even Rodriguez and Hillard would have stood up against the Aldermen on this issue.

I contacted Ald. Zalewski ,23rd Ward ( S/W Chgo, Midway/ Garfield Ridge area) last week. His office, at that time, told me he would vote no for the sign and request a formal roll call if it comes to a vote.

Interesting, isn't it? When an issue that arises in the City Council that requires its members to actually think and take a stand (i.e., without Daley telling them how to vote and what to think), there is silence. A reminder, perhaps, of the corruption (a corruption of ignorance, race, ethnicity, gender, etc.) that has infected all levels of Chicago area politics and government for as long as anyone can remember. Also interesting that CPD brass have not spoken out; that silence makes the pronouncements re: St. Jude's parade and the memorial park downtown kind of hollow....

Mr.
Thank you for your email. Wednesday, in City Council, we honored a young Policeman, Officer Eric Solorio, who was tragically killed in the line of duty. He deserves an honorary street sign!

In the 19th Ward, we have 19 honorary street dedications: 3 police officers killed in the line of duty; 1 fallen firefighter; 6 religious leaders; 2 veterans who lost their lives serving our country; 5 educators, 1 director of a local senior citizen facility; and 1 for the Landmark District Walter Burley Griffin. These are the only types of street dedications that I have introduced and will continue to request at City Council. I am opposed, and will never support, the dedication of the honorary street sign proposed for Fred Hampton.

An individual alderman introduces an ordinance requesting an honorary designation. As a formality, it is sent to the Committee on Transportation, and then, to the entire body for consideration. Alderman Tom Allen, Chairman of the Committee on Transportation, has championed reforms to the process of honorary street designations; unfortunately, these have not been adopted. He has introduced new legislation, which I support, requiring a biographical summary before such an ordinance is heard by the full Council.

Alderman Ginger Rugai

That is the response I got back.

The egomaniacal, ex-BPP "Minister of Defense" RUSH is behind this whole outrage. He wants to "vindicate his legacy" of advocating, even abetting and inciting the wanton slaughter of police officers.

First, they name both of their (private) "clinics" after a double cop killer. Now, they're going to TRY to rub our noses in their shit and name a PUBLIC street after their prime instigator.

For openers, why doesn't the media call Haithcock on her quote to reporter Fran Spielman?

Meanwhile, "da mare" and Cline appear to be deer--paralyzed in the headlamps of a black Escalade with opaque tinted glass and 24" spinners bearing down on their sorry asses.

When will Sen. Barack Obama and "First Deputy" Dana Starks weigh in on this powder keg?

I e-mailed my alderman (John Pope 10th ward) and I am still awaiting a response. It's been several days now and not a peep out of him. It figures, he was a Daley appointee to this ward. I called his office both at city hall and in the ward and he's never available to speak or comment about the sign. Another of Daley's political hacks. Just another puppet for the mayor.

We need to bring city government to a halt to get their attention!

This has everything to do with politics. Jesse Jackson Jr. is looking for a way to dislodge some of the African American voting block Mayor Daley has shown he can get.

By bringing out issues like this Jr. knows that the Mayor will have to come down on what is the right thing to do politically - not letting the sign vote even get to the floor.

Most Chicagoans would not support this issue. He still will win the election because he has the money and the organization. Jackson has his father and little creditability beyond his district. Even what is left of the so called "Lake front liberals" wouldn't place the city in the hands of someone who has no executive experience.

For all the reverential remembrance of Harold Washington he was shown to by inept in trying to run city government.

If you like him or not Mayor Daley is going to be the Mayor for as long as he wants to be. He said that very thing in the congressional record not to long ago.

For those who expect indictment - remember that you don't live in one of the most effective politician's house for your formative years and not know a few things about staying out of criminal difficulty.

The Feds have who they have and they are not going any hire. There might be some additional collateral damage but the Mayor is insulated.

Do you really expect a reply from Banks or Laurino and the other outfit alderman. Haithcock is one of the outfit lackeys, as are the others, she does what the outfit tells her. Do you think that the others will go against the outfit unless they are told its ok.

After all Haithcock has large sections of Taylor st. in her Ward. She is worried about a white canidate running against her, with all the yuppies moving into Maxwell Area and is using this to galvanize black support.

12:02 you hit it right on the head! Nothing will happen and the sign issue will die before it hits the floor. It's politics pure and simple. Rile up your voting bloc just before an election and see what happens. If you look at this enough you can see that Daley is marginalizing the Rush/Jackson Jr. crew and their slate for seats on the county board. (How much longer is Stroger going to be around? Who can he replace him with? Sheriff Sheahan and his merry band of misfits ain't helping Daley's cause either.)

Look for demotions and reassignments after the election. Could Starks' head be on the block?
