They free a guy with a history of sex assaults from one that he evidently didn't commit and he goes out and starts over. Hmm.
- George Ryan endgame continues. Closing arguments are expected to take most of this week. If you can't sum up this case in an afternoon, you run the risk of boring the jurors. Don't drop this case please. Channel 2, 5, 7, Times
- Officers catch two bank robbers up in 020. Good job guys. Someone even got to use a TASER!

- CTA bus drivers vote on a possible strike. They'll probably force the city to give them whatever they want. Too bad we can't blackmail the city with the threat of a strike or a job action or a blue flu or pretty much anything.
- Suicide attempt on the Red Line. Correct us if we're wrong, but aren't those tracks like in the middle of the Dan Ryan? About 7 feet off the pavement? Why didn't this guy go to the Blue Line over the Ike at Rush Presbyterian - that's at least 40 feet high.

Met someone tonite who works in CC jail 26st, who lives in Ind, and her coworkers live in WI too, due to some lawsuit that was just settled last year. The courts ruled in was unconstitutional to tell people where they can live. Did anyone else here of this?
Annnnnddd I just found out that the female prisoners have a beauty palor!!!!! They get to have their hair permed (average f/2 cost is $150.00) can someone tell me why as a taxpayer, I am paying for some bitches hair to look good when it cost me dearly to go to a salon?!?!? I was already livid they got carte blanch air and cable but a beauty palor!?!? Holy crap!! There really is no chance for the average non criminal tax paying whore is there?

You don't have to be a police officer, just a newspaper reader to understand that 95% of police officers killed have one thing in common. They were lazy, lax, not following procedures and ended up dead. Yes, the bad person did the killing but its usually due to the officer not doing his/her job correctly. So some of the blame does fall on the killed officer.

If you ignore the mistakes and errors that were committed by officers that lead to their death, your are ignoring vital information that may save you. Sometimes you guys really amaze me. Street survival is all about discovering what happened that allowed an offender to get the best of a policeman and to correct the error so that it doesn't happen again. Its not about blaming the victim - its about protecting the living from making the same mistake in the future. A number of studies have shown that P.O.'s are more likely to be injured or killed when they haven't had enough rest, are hungover, have just eaten, weren't paying attention, failed to call for backup, hadn't cleaned their guys, were generally out of condition, etc. The list goes on. We will never be able to stop an ambush but our chances of surviving it are better if we're alert and our equipment is in good order and we have backup present or on the way. Get your heads out of your asses and stop treating this job like its a joke. I read these pages regularly and for sometime now it seems that the malcontents and policemen who are really "police haters" have taken over the site. Its an embarrasment to all of us and we should be ashamed to have allowed this site to degenerate into a name-calling electronic bathroom wall. Growup and stop embarrassing the profession and the memories of all of those dead cops out there who died so that we could do it better.

Do we really need to read this....I remember after a Officer died in my district the department sent their equivelent of "grief councilers"to the district who came to our roll call and made themselves available to everyone....only one officer talked to them...one officer as a form of apology...said to them something like...that...it wasn't that we weren't upset... it was that we had to go back on the streets..the same streets that killed our brother...we couldn't do both....Understand that we know its not a game...and that we don'nt take our jobs as a joke (the public does that for us)... but that we can'nt do both....because what is asked of us every day is the impossible......To all my brothers that have gone before rest in peace.......and I don'nt know who you are...but don'nt presume to lecture or remind the men and women who everyday go to work and do their jobs......this is their site and they should be free to express themselves.....

This might not seem like an important detail but, I disagree. We never know how it exactly happened. Supposition and educated guesses are added to fill in the blanks. Its just human nature.
No two situations are ever the same, and you cannot attempt to control a situation using the same techniques every time. Working 99, bouncing car to car everyday, different partners, not communicating w/ your partner prior to making a stop. I could continue but I think you get the idea. The only constant is going home the same way you went to work. Has worked for last 14 years, God willing, and will continue for another 15. Always trust the little guy inside your head that says "something ain't right, stupid" and take the appropriate action till you feel safe. Stay safe.
