Late to the Party
During our regular surfing, we see that both Paul Huebl and Rue St Michel have posted pieces that touch on the Sun Times story about police cameras (Rue St Michel writes on surveillance in general rather than the article itself - a longer and well thought out piece).
Our opinion? Cameras are here to stay and we better get used to it. We won't parrot the company line that "cameras will protect you from false allegations" because they won't, anymore than the Sworn Affidavit has protected anyone from false CR allegations. We've heard stories of a few enterprising supervisors who are able to dissuade certain complainants by explaining in detail the legal ramifications of a false affidavit, but once it gets around that the ASA's won't approve criminal charges, CR's will spike upwards again. Maybe if the FOP set up a method (hello? any lawyers reading?) by which officers could get civil judgments against their accusers, word would get out, but until then we'll watch with a wary eye.
Cameras are there to protect the city from liability. If you get caught in the wrong, you are going to be swinging in the wind. "Police smarter" might seem like a trite phrase, but the dope dealers have already figured out "sling dope smarter." If they can move operations out of the all seeing eye, we can be aware of where the eyes are that might get us into trouble. Be aware that when someone gives you lip, they might be thinking of the camera and hoping for a payday. Be aware when a camera car pulls up to assist you on a traffic stop. When the helicopter is up and running, it's going to be camera ready - LIVE! Every jackass loves an audience and the camera gives them a ready made one. Don't get drawn in.
That being said, you can't stop doing the job, but you'll have to justify it a little better now. Adapt. Talk it over with your partners. You can write your way out of videotape. It's been done numerous times already. Remember, these cameras usually run on a timer pattern - scan here, move to there, focus on this building, repeat. The chances of it actually capturing an entire incident are slim. Those gaps leave a lot of room for interpretation. And if you're running a "football" remote? Do everyone a favor and point the camera somewhere other than right at a nearby traffic stop. If you're so concerned about the guys doing the stop, roll up on them and get out of the car. Don't record it for posterity. Police smarter.

I'm glad about the cameras. So what's the worse ya'll gonna catch me doing? Grabbing the ass of a hot date? ;)
Your in luck, nothing wrong today with two men on a date grabbing each others ass! You'll probably be promoted.
nope. you've either seen brokeback mountain too many times and/or haven't had your junk in the trunk grabbed.
i'm a woman and was talking about being on a hot date.
Whatever ever happend to the dude that was going to out SSC? I thought there was going to be a big announcement on New Year's?
Those Pod Cameras area a Joke. The quality of the video is useless. You are unable to see any faces clearly. Trying to even tell what kind of car is on the street let alon a plate is an even bigger joke.
The dope boys do business right under some of the bods as they make them feel safer.
Lets buy more pods along with fences and flower pots. Wonder how much of a kick back the mayor gets off the camera pods.
Can someone please post the city council meeting time so we know when to be there?
I asked that on an earlier post..no response,,,,,still waiting,do they want us there or not?
Opening bids are currently being taken on the original "Fred Fed the Kids" sign which was "liberated" by person(s) unknown from 2339 W. Monroe St. Mint condition.
For particulars, check the thread entitled "Our Thoughts on Hampton Avenue" at 5:39 PM.

check out the city's website - they ought to have meeting times there. hopefully, FOP will have some info too. its on the 29th of march so we're good on the date.
Anyone know why the Commander of 025 just got dumped? I heard there is some kind of investigation going on up there. Very unusual for a Commander to be dumped by Phat Phil. I think this will actually be his first demotion. Post details if you know what is up.

Had a call for man with a gun observed by the camera...pretty decent description. Grabbed a guy who fit but was clear. Dispatch sends updated info the guy is walking south we locate grab him...turns out to be a toy gun. Say what you want but in my mind at that time it worked.
they work to show you people walking. Try and get a description of a shooter from the video after he has fled the scene. At best you will be able to tell its a M/whatever and that about it. Trust me i have had to review these tapes they are worthless.
The automated pods always seem to have the camera pointed away at the time of a shooting. Maybe they should put the sound activation in them so when a gun is fired the camera actually turns towards the shooting, instead of shooting video of the other direction. More smoke and mirrors for Daley. Most of these pods are unmanned and to get the video takes 24hrs for them to download and send to the area. REAL TIME my ass. You must be one of Hubermanns but buddies saying these things actually work.

Ask Nere, she has enough wack to get anything said about her deleted. She must know who runs SCC.
I guess the truth hurts; you know pissing hot and getting your job back.
This post won't be around long.
I don't think it's seiser
Don't be stupid. The clout endowed on this job stab the rest of us in the back all the time. Most of the time you don't even know who did it.
Can you ,Mr. Patrolman-for-Life name ONE boss who has been "man enough" to stand up to the politicians over the Fred Hampton sign issue?
The P.Os/bosses who get bashed on this site that I know have deserved it, and their behavior is no secret.
If you don't like the bashing you get here change, quit, or grow some thick skin.

I guess this would be good advice for Nere.

NO SHIT!!! What kind of bullshit is this, SCC? It's OK for names to get posted, along with a string of bullshit about that person, but post a name along with a few FACTS, and you delete every single reference to that person? What gives? Why would you leave all the half-truths and bullshit about Sgt. J.G. in the same thread, but then remove references to HER?
Remember, editing some stuff and leaving other stuff could cause you quite the headache later on. Leave it all, or delete all, but playing favorites is god damn ri-cock-ulous!
Guess you better stop with the Hitney crap if we aren't allowed to mention that Detective Chris Nere pissed hot for cannabis but was allowed to keep her job! Or the FACT that she brags about being a swinger and owning property in Florida specifically for that purpose!

Well, it's official: I won't be getting a hard-on anytime soon after that little bit of info.
I just heard they arrested an exempt officer tonight. Anyone have details?
cameras both traffic and crime = less manpower and in the case of traffic more revenue, unfortunately less manpower = less pension contributions = higher rates for existing members
watch our 9.5% go to 11% or more to make up the difference.
PENSIONS PENSIONS PENSIONS the next battleground for contract negotiations.

"Anyone know why the Commander of 025 just got dumped?"
I hope that's just more of the usual bullshit on here! He's a great boss!
I find it hard to believe that changes were made on a Sunday.
CRASH!
Praise the Lord! To hell with "Brokeback Mountain",
Got dumped? On a Sunday? During a 3 day weekend? With Cline out of town?
Range guys need ribbons too! We work hard hiding in the basement. If you need us we will call 911 for you.
Sorry OF TOPIC. I dont know if this is true. Need help from 1612/1614 residents. I just heard a rumor and Im hoping thats all it is.
7781 w Talcott where Talcott Hardware used to be will be the new home of a very much UNWANTED POOL HALL!
Is this an election year scam, or is this reality. We all know what kind of clients the pool hall will bring. Rumor has it that the Alderman stated nothing could be done to stop it. Lets help the Alderman stop it if its true!
The Alderman stopped a tattoo shop owned by a fireman from opening on NW HWY, I'm sure if he wanted to he could keep a pool hall out.
Doesn't exactly seem like a good fit for that neighborhood, regardless of clientel. No liquor license, no parking, on a mostly residential street with a copper living in every other house in every direction? I'd put money on it NOT happening.
I hope your correct. Like I said is this a rumor or a political play?
They got some of them fancy cameras in 008. The one one Cicero at 43rd street doesn't stop the little dirtbags from Leclaire Courts from repeatedly robbing people at the gas station a block or so down right in the camera's view. They simply put on a ballcap and pull up their hoods and there's no way you can see which little punks are doing it. Great system, huh? A 15-year-old with a $10 hooded-sweatshirt makes a $10,000 camera useless!
You gotta love it!
Storming the city council would be good, but they could cancel the meeting and lock the doors.
Plan B for that day...
Have widows and orphans of murdered officers demand to see his highness alla Cindy Shehan (sp?)v. George Bush.
But shutting down the St. Patrick's Parade with a 60's style Martin Luther King (who rejected the violence of Dead Fred) with a sit-in would be priceless.

They want cameras
They should impliment the new splice for the shittyeyemolecular. This splice goes in between the nerve which travels from the rear of the eye to the asshole, connecting a viewing lcd screen. Then the bosses can really see what a shitty outlook us coppers do have when looking at the bosses political crap doled out to us and are expected to swallow on a daily basis.
