Dan Ryan Construction

Is anyone else getting as sick of the Dan Ryan construction coverage as we are? Look at this:
And if you've caught any of the news casts, the media is having a field day with this: every news outlet is having "driving tours" of the Ryan. Helicopter coverage is rampant. Everyone is telling us how miserable we're going to be for the next two years.

Big deal. The news does the same thing whenever there is a big snow storm, or rain storm, or wind storm, or any other run of the mill phenomenon. Chicago has weather. It changes sometimes 3 times a day. Chicago has construction - it's almost its own season. Chicago has corruption - and there sure is a lot of it coming to light nowadays. Isn't there any real news to cover? Like our illegal immigration problem? Like the booming economy and record low unemployment rates? How about the successes in Iraq or the fact we are about to begin bombing Iran shortly after the fall elections if not sooner? We really don't need to be told traffic is going to suck. It does every summer when they roll out the construction barricades.

I for one am dreading the next two years. Traffic is going to be screwed up not only on the Ryan, but every expressway. And the arterial streets won't be much help either.

We're all screwed! Hopefully in two years it will be better. (ha ha)

I'm sick of the crazy media coverage as well. So what else is new here that we don't already know?

There is other worthwhile news that needs to be covered...

Don't worry about the swiping. It was tried before and it fell by the wayside due to crappy city equipment. Besides all they want is for you to swipe in. Just show up to work on time an you will not have a problem.

Oh, by the way, SCC, now that we register can we get rid of the word verification box. Sometimes the letters are so smashed together it is hard to tell what they are.
I also like the ability to delete your comments. It used to be don't drink and dial, now it is don't drink and blog.

the verification is really to eliminate spammers who troll through and leave notes like this:

"Hey you have a really interesting blog. The things you say are real and berry fonny. I think yood like to see my website http://highaltitudeenemas.com.au/"

WHAT WERE OUR EXEMPTS THINKING FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS???
Here is my bitch...For the past two years, CPD was included in the IDOT plans for the Ryan construction. All of a sudden, get two marked cars from every district and quickly, have them dropped off at the 006th district by noon. It's bad enough the districts are all ready short changed when it comes to squad cars. You would think someone in CPD would have actually planned ahead knowing that there was to be a detail of off-duty's during this project.
Perhaps in stead of junking a couple of dozen squads, they would have kept them running and even used some IDOT transportation funds as part of the project. They or Fleet Management once again don't plan ahead and the p/o's are left shifting and searching for a car to use to go out on patrol.
THANK YOU TO WHATEVER BOSS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS IN HOUSE BLUNDER...SEE YOU AT ROLL CALL

Fox News reported earlier this evening that IDOT has examined the racial makeup of construction workers scheduled to begin working on the Dan Ryan Project. It discovered that 37% of the workers will be African Americans. IDOT reports that the agreed percentage in their meetings with neighborhood organinzations was to be 30%. Therefore, Monday morning termination notices will be sent to the last 7% of African American that were hired.
