Red Light Cameras Illegal?

For the second time in 8 months, a remote camera program has been made illegal, in this case because the city couldn't prove who was driving the car and merely assigning guilt to the owner of the license plate. Granted, this judge was sitting in Minnesota and their camera program seems to be a different version of the one in Chicago that tries to snap a picture of the driver AND the plate, but if a persuasive argument could be made that the driver of a vehicle is unidentifiable, we cannot see how these tickets would stand in court (well, actually we could - this is Cook County after all).

In July of last year, the Virginia legislature refused to re-authorize their camera act, in part because an outside agency was collecting money on what is essentially a government function.

Anyone want to volunteer to be the guinea pig?

I can tell you that those cameras are not true.....

I got a letter in the mail that my car went through a red light..
on a date and time I was at work

I tried to contest it but I had to goto a hearing with a hearing officer...so I took the day off work (I'm not a cop) and went down and gave my story. they showed me a picture of a car that was not mine with a black guy driving..and a licence plate that was not mine..the plate was off by the last letter.
In the picture it looked like the car had some damage on it which caused the licence plate to be bent up and the car only had one plate...so someone tried to guess at the last letter on the plate and they guessed wrong...

well the hearing officer dismissed the ticket...but should I have to go through all that trouble ?
NO!

I would much rather get a ticket from a cop in-person...at least
if I act right I could get a break...

Avoid the nuisance of red light cameras. Check www.PhantomPlate.com

"PhotoBlocker" aerosol spray is invisible to the naked eye.

$30 plus S+H It will cover at least eight rear plates. Chip in with seven friends and order a can for about $4 per rear plate.

The web-site for Phantom Blocker says it only covers four plates per can. So, it's about $7.50 a plate.

Still, well worth it, if it works.

I'm gonna try.

The red light camera tickets have a $90 fine. I'm getting a can I don't blow red lights but I sometimes go through a yellow. Who needs the hassle?

The site says that the sprayed plates were checked by the Denver Police. It works.

I'm gonna try a really cool idea to avoid these tickets...slow down and not blow the red lights. Anyone think that might work?

That desn't always work. What if the guy infront of you is really busy picking his nose at the time and makes you wait. He wakes up and zooms thru, you try to keep up, but it turns "red" while *your* rear bumper was still in the intersection.

Why should I loose $90 for someone else's mistake........??

Came in from Wrigleyville last night off the Red Line, and was waiting on the platform at the Roosevelt stop for the Orange Line into Midway last night.

Camera going off numerous times!!

Was trying to see if you get snapped while you're waiting to turn when the light is yellow? Or is it just when it's red?????

This camera was very busy last night around 6pm.

I bought 2 cans of OPTICAL ILLUSION SPRAY. When the camera takes a picture of your license plate, the plate doesn't show up but the words "DALEY SUCKS" does.

All for 25 easy payments of $1999.99.

Do we REALLY need "Welcome Back Kotter, The Movie", starring ICE CUBE as Mr. Kotter?!?!?!?!?

And "Back To School" starring Cedric The Entertainer in Rodney Dangerfield's old role????

I can't believe they are making these! Wasn't the "urban revisualization of the Honeymooners" enough?

What the fuck, people? Is nothing Sacred?

Perhaps Hollywood will give us a remake of Dirty Harry starring Dave Chapelle next!

Doesn't this violate the Constitution some how. Everyone is entitled to equal protection under the law. And if you for example you have a TEMP plate that is not reflective, or an IN temp plate which is normally mounted in the window, I would assume that the camera would not be able to snap a photo of the plate. So following that logic the photo enforcement is unable to fairly capture all the scofflaws and should be stopped. Just and idea....not sure if it will work.

I have heard that some civilians were getting revenge on the red light cameras by hooding up and painting over the lenses with a can of spray paint on a piece of pipe.

INGENIOUS LITTLE BASTARDS!

Oh and one thing they don't tell you is that the city can shorten the yellow time as much as they want.

I want to know what campaign contributions the camera makers made.

In referance to the 5400 block of Bernice Ave. What happened is true. But take note. Prior to police arrivial, he broke into house, took all the knives he could find and as he was headind out the front door for the second time, he began to throw the knives at the police. By this time a sgt. was off to his side and tased him, causing his penis to flop out of his hand and go down the front stairs like a slinky. Dude was transported to Illinois Masonic and then taken to Northwester Hospital to have a add-a-dick-to-me operation performed.
Un-fucking real...but it's true.

I as a taxpayer don't feel like getting involved in an accident with " attempt carjacking offender" I'm not afraid of the police in high speed chases as I am the offender driving to get away and the civilians who won't obey the rules of the road when it comes to emergency vehicles passing thru. I am paying taxes so that we hire folks with some common sense, I don't want to see myself or some officer get hurt over a stolen fricking car! Thats why I pay car insurance, a car can be replaced.

To 3/15/2006 08:36:15 PM,

Keep paying your insurance. However, there are many white, black, and hispanic persons who work everyday and can barely afford "liabilty only" auto insurance. They don't live in Depaul-Sheffield with the fruits, and they don't live in Ravenswood with the fruits, and since we went on steady watches thirteen years ago anyone on the third and first watches don't see them either. They're barricaded in their homes after 1600 hrs. when Bobby Rush's constituents have run of the streets.

My point is that not everyone drives a 330xi or a Landrover. And when seventeen-year-old duke peels the column on their twelve-year-old Cutlass Ceira and burns it after taking the rims these families might be set back for an entire year after replacing their $3500.00 beater. Naturally, weigh the police purpose during a pursuit. Don't get killed. I would prefer to shoot he pricks after they crash and flee from the hot car. When we were still a civilized society we did just that! There was a consequence associated with criminal behavior.

Remember, the general order that changed guidlines during a vehicle pursuit was changed during the tenure of the most corrupt superintendent in recent memory. Property crimes do count.
Lite 'em up at first chance. They got to make you meritorious something or other after the dicks straighten it all up! Alright, so I'm typing tonight after three margaritas...
