Bravado?
- Mayor Daley said today he has nothing to fear from the across-the-board conviction of his political cohort, George Ryan.
Oh, we don't know about that. John Daley and Richie have both been questioned by the Feds. John is the primary seller of building insurance to many downtown properties, politically connected businesses and others wishing to work with the City. It seems implausible that the Feds don't have something nailed down on the Cook County Board and John seems to be the likely candidate along with Stroger.

I can't believe this hasn't hit Daley yet, Ryan was convicted for doing exactly what Daley does every election. I have friends that are city electricians and bricklayers, etc. and around election time they have to go out campaigning for the democratic party. Its mandatory!! They go door to door and get signatures and if they don't say goodbye to the job. I can't believe with all the lay offs the city has done, someone doesn't step up a spill the beans. All the news would have to do is get a list of all the people that got laid off and interview them. I am sure they would be glad to explain what was required from the Daley administration to have a city job.

Da Mayor, on his way home from work at City Hall, came to a dead halt in traffic on the Dan Ryan Expressway and thought to himself, "Wow, this traffic seems worse than usual. Nothing's moving at all."
He noticed a State Trooper walking back and forth between the lines of cars, so he rolled down his window and asked,"Officer, I'm the Mayor, what's the problem, what's holding everything up."
The trooper replied, "It's the Reverend. He's so depressed about the thought of everyone knowing about his extra-martial affair and his illegitimate child, that he stopped his car in the middle of the Dan Ryan Expressway and is threatening to douse himself with gasoline and set himself on fire. He says the country and his congregation are blaming him for his infidelity and doesn't know if he can live with the shame and embarrassment. The people in the halted cars along the expressway are taking up a collection for him."
"Oh really," replied Da Mayor. "How much have they collected for the Reverend so far?"
"About 300 gallons," said the trooper, "but they are still siphoning."

An extremely good friend of mine has been a city electrical foremen for twenty-four years. Five years ago he bemoaned being passed over for promotion to a higher level management job in what has come to be known as the "Madigan Electric Company". Then he confided that he was requested to pay ten thousand dollars to a certain democratic state legislator on the extreme northwest side to secure the promotion. Try as I could I was unable to convince him to contact the G with his story. The friend is as legit as you can get and I have know doubt about the truthfulness of his account. He realizes he has a patronage job and there were certain things he did have to do very early on such as watching a polling place, and buying tickets for political fundraisers. He stated that this was the first time, however, that he was directed to pay a bribe to obtain a promotion. Don't think for a minute our own job is not heading in this direction. Daley stole the captains position and essentially created over seventy-five patronage jobs he could now control. The meritorious promotions to other ranks is more evidence of the corruption that is the hullmark of the Daley administration. We better pray the Republicans keep the White House. If they do not there is absolutely no reason for any working family of any race to remain in Chicago anymore. And as always, save yourself-Vote McCain!!!

the QUESTION is WHY the federal authorities have no appearent INTEREST in ending the daley rein of power over this city !
