Another Plot?

We noted a few weeks ago that Aldercreatures have essentially removed themselves from any sort of oversight by writing into law that the Inspector General CANNOT investigate Aldercreatures. So we are more than happy to see the Feds in City Hall taking it apart slimeball by slimeball. We figure it's only a matter of time until they get an aldercreature or three - it's the nature of the beast.

Now we've been reading about a Louisiana Congressman who is ON TAPE accepting a $100,000 bribe from an FBI informant. The Congressman (or Congress-creature) refuses his own Party's demands that he resign (he's a democrat) and one of his loudest defenders is the House Speaker - republican Dennis Hastert. And Hastert's argument? That the FBI overstepped it's bounds by using a search warrant on the Congressman's home and office.

We think we may detect the hand of Karl Rove in all this! (bear with us). The only people with LOWER approval ratings than the President is Congress. So Rove gets the Executive Branch law enforcement arm to hook up a dirty Congress-weasel, gets the Speaker of the House to claim this is a violation of the "Separation of Powers" (which it isn't), democrat and republican Congress-weasels unite behind a "We're ABOVE the law" platform, and Bush's ratings start to climb again. All politics is local, so there aren't going to be too many House races that are going to hinge on this little dust up and the republicans maintain control of both houses by riding Bush's momentum. It's Brilliant!

The Feds better hurry up.

If a Democrat gets elected President, the investigation against Daley will be squashed.

If convicted, he will get pardoned just like Rostenkowski.

VOTE REPUBLICAN!

Hey SCC:
I’m all for the "revolution" of which you speak, i.e.: "Rope. Tree. Journalist. Some Assembly Required"
And having the lawyers on the firing line, but just when are we going after the politicians?
Just give us the word / signal / secret "hi" sign!!!

Now Joyce's and Dart's name are in the Daley saga over jobs as favors. Dart's buddy from childhood put them in the mix. The list keeps growing.

I'm at the point of not caring what party is in The White House.
Each of them have proven to be crooked, liars, and thieves. The only choice is who do you want to rip you off.

Although the Sun Times is usually fit only for training a puppy, the articles on the Roti family of the Mother's And Father's Italian Association (MAFIA)have been excellent! They should be combined into booklet form because they show just how this city is run:

The Damnocrats are only calling for that guy's resignation because
everyone knows that he is a "dead fish". Both parties want him thrown overboard ASAP & out of the spotlight. The bogus cry of a violation of "separation of powers"
is merely an attempt to hamstring
the FBI, which has regurlarly
sent crooked congressmen to jail.

At least theoretically, I do have a bit of an issue with agents of the Executive searching offices of the legislative. It obviously has to be done, but there should be some sort of compromise authority, such as a judge on the "secret" court, who approves all such requests and designated one or more impartial observers to make sure that the executive agents go no further than authorized by the judge.

Its not to say that abuse does not exist in Congress (duh!), or that abuse should not be investigated (duh! again). Rather, anybody should be worried about such actions by the Executive given the abuses of the past by Nixon, Clinton (anybody seen Vince Foster lately?), Roosevelt (so if we make the Supreme Court 25 people, than you think I'll get this New Deal approved?) etc.

Controls (checks and balances) are needed at some point. And there is certainly a reason that the FBI has never conducted such a raid before. I hope they had some "impartial" authority, such as the Sergeant at Arms of the House, along as an observer.
