Another Shooting
- A man was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer Wednesday evening on the city's Far South Side, according to police. The incident took place near 106th and Wentworth about 7:45 p.m., police said. The man was reportedly shot in the chest.

Why is it cops shoot better off duty than on?

Speaking of shootings, an interesting conviction out of Ablemarle Co., Virginia.
While fleeing from a burglary, Robert Lee Cooke shot Ingo, a police K-9 German shepherd, causing the dog's death. Ingo's handler, Officer Andy Gluba, returned fire, resulting in paralysis of the burglar/shooter's lower body.
Cooke was sentenced to ten years in the penitentiary for killing the heroic police K-9. He was also fined $5,000.00.
Why doesn't the Illinois legislature make the killing of a police canine dog or horse a Class 3 Felony?

Sec. 4.04. Injuring or killing police animals, service animals, or search and rescue dogs prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any person to willfully or maliciously torture, mutilate, injure, disable, poison, or kill (i) any animal used by a law enforcement department or agency in the performance of the functions or duties of the department or agency or when placed in confinement off duty, (ii) any service animal, (iii) any search and rescue dog, or (iv) any law enforcement, service, or search and rescue animal in training. However, a police officer or veterinarian may perform euthanasia in emergency situations when delay would cause the animal undue suffering and pain.
A person convicted of violating this Section is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor if the animal is not killed or totally disabled; if the animal is killed or totally disabled, the person is guilty of a Class 4 felony.

6:14, just as a slight aside and geographic history lesson, Albemarle county is the home of Monticello, Charlottesville (University of Virginia) and a huge amount of America's early colonial history.
Its also beautiful with great hills and EXCELLENT wineries. Half the people I know in Virginia want to retire out that way or on the Peninsula that includes Williamsburg (ending at Norfolk).
Just saying, you don't often see the words "Albemarle" county outside of Virginia, so now that occasion has arisen to use it, I thought I would try and put the place in context.
Sort of like the nicer parts of Northern California (i.e., the parts that don't look like Sunnyvale).
