- Extra $62 million found for new Kennedy-King
- A $10 million city loan, $20 million from "tax-increment financing" (TIF) and $15 million in funds generated by putting off other City Colleges projects will help wipe out massive cost overruns at the new Kennedy-King College, a top mayoral aide said Monday.
- The original cost was $192 million. The new price tag is $254 million.
- Gayles did not explain where the rest of the $62 million would come from, except to describe it as "creative financing."
Whoever this Gayles is, he ought to be serving some Federal time next to James Laski soon. "Creative financing?" What a crock of shit. This isn't saving diddly squat. All the City is doing is robbing Peter to pay Peter - all of us taxpayers are getting the shaft on this one. Delaying a project doesn't mean it isn't going to get paid for - it only means it will get paid for at a higher cost later.

Plus the same creative geniuses who finance Soldier Field, The Bean, Grant park Underground Parking and the newly thought of Olympic stadium is in charge of the money. The problem is that lousy $60,000 or $70,000 that you might be making, AIN"T enough to allow you to beef about nothing!
We need:
1)bring in one or two huge call centers that will get a tax break for X year, if they hire/retain X amount of people in the SOUTHSIDE
2) do something with Midway Airport. The airport is falling apart. We just lost United and need to attract more people to fly in here. We have a Dunkin Donuts and some small convenience store. WOW
3) place a new business corridor along 55th near Midway, without ruining the integrity of the neighborhood
4) cameras in CPD Squads and better working equipment (radar, etc)
5) get rid of these orange cone traffic directing people who are clueless and revenue boot people. bring it back to the CPD
6) get rid of CAPS. It does not work

Woman who died in lockup had asked for help: witness

A Cook County Sheriff's log backs up a witness' claim that a 46-year-old woman charged with drug possession had sought medical attention before she died in a Chicago Police lockup.
Patricia Cobige was pronounced dead about 2:30 a.m. Monday after she was found unresponsive in the lockup at the Grand Central District station at 5555 W. Grand, authorities said.
An autopsy did not find a conclusive cause of death, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Barbara Flores, who was locked up on a traffic warrant early Saturday, said she was in a cell with Cobige and other women at the station.
'My stomach's hurting'
Cobige asked police at least six times for medical attention, but they ignored her, Flores said.
"Every time a turnkey would show up, she would say, 'I'm not feeling good, my stomach hurts,'" Flores said. "She asked for a medic at least a half dozen times. The turnkeys would say, 'No. You're just "dope sick," lady.'"
Other women in the lockup asked Cobige if she was "dope sick," and she replied, "No, my stomach's hurting," Flores said.
On Sunday morning, a Chicago Police officer transported the women to the Cook County courthouse at 26th and California for their bond hearings, Flores said.
The officer allegedly told the women, "OK, when you get there, you're going to be asked if you are sick or were hurt or mistreated, and if you tell them yes, I'm not going to take you to the hospital. I'm just going to bring you back here. Our goal is to go to court, get our bonds, ladies, and go home," Flores said.
Cook County Sheriff's spokesman Bill Cunningham confirmed that Chicago Police brought women, including Cobige, to the courthouse Sunday morning. A log shows that a female sheriff's deputy asked Cobige if she needed medical attention, and she replied, "Yes," Cunningham said.
According to the log, Cobige told the deputy her stomach was bothering her, Cunningham said.
The sheriff's policy on defendants who ask for medical attention is to return them to the custody of the police departments that transported them to the courthouse, Cunningham said.
"We will accept them once we see documentation that the person was taken to a hospital," he said.
'Cruel indifference'
Once or twice a day, defendants appearing at court for bond hearings tell deputies they need medical attention and they are returned to police custody, Cunningham said.
Jeffrey Granich, an attorney retained by Cobige's family, said police could have sought medical attention for her, but apparently did not want the extra work involved in making such arrangements.
"The thing that jumps out is the cruel indifference of listening to someone begging for medical attention and denying it," Granich said.
Chicago Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the department is conducting an internal investigation into Cobige's death. She would not comment on details of the time Cobige spent in police custody.
Cobige's son, Maurice Cobige, acknowledged she had prior run-ins with the law over her struggle with drug abuse. He said he didn't know of any prior medical problems.
"She taught me to treat everyone the same way -- from the president to a bum -- with respect," Cobige said. "It doesn't look like they treated my mother with much respect."

The funny thing about the Kennedy-King College project is that Daley says it is to revitalize the neighborhood. Yeah, right! I'm sure most of you know what happens on construction sites in the ghetto - as soon as the crew leaves for the day, the shitheads move in and steal everything they can get their hands on(windows, doors, appliances, tools, etc.) The only thing being revitalized is the hypes pocketbook that stole the shit. Secondly, very few Englewood residents go to college. And non-Englewood residents don't want to go to college in the asshole of the city - it's dirty, it stinks, and it is dangerous. That money would have helped the city a lot more if they would have done some research and placed a new college in a neighborhood where it would have been used to it's full potential and it would not have gotten looted every night for the 3 years it has taken so far for the construction. You want to revitalize the neighborhood? Buy every abandoned house and vacant lot (there are more of both of these in Englewood than any other neighborhood in the city). Take the neighborhood back. At the rate that those savages ruin things, it won't take long before we had most of the district back. And the few that would remain are the good hard-working people that desrve to stay. When you get all the dope-dealing, gang-banging shitheads out of the neighborhood it will already be revitalized. All you would need then is some businesses to come into the neighborhood and the residents that remain to actually do some work on their homes. That would be the greatest gift Englewood could ever get.
And to the asshole that says he sees racist remarks against blacks on this site - WHERE? Most of the comments are made against a CLASS of people, not the race. But if you see the facts you will also see that one particular race falls largely in that class. Whose fault is that? Get off your ass and go to school, work hard and get you/your family out of the ghetto. Than you will not be lumped into that class anymore.

As Aldercreature Beavers said yesterday, the residents are so stupid they can't even call 911. So why are we pumping more money into these alledged institutions of higher learning. All this coupled with Little Big Man's approval of a tax increase for the Board of Education. Give me a f-ing break. When are we going to realize the "community" is unable to be educated.
