Stroger Follies Not Over Yet

The jockeying for position has begun, in spite of the alleged "agreement" put forth by Aldercreature Beavers. This is going to be a fun election locally:
  • A day after Cook County Board President John Stroger announced he was stepping down, potential replacement Bobbie Steele stepped into the spotlight Saturday, touting her qualifications to replace Stroger on the November ballot.
  • Rep. Danny Davis (D-Ill.) announced his candidacy Friday after the Stroger camp released an unsigned letter saying that Stroger would resign as the Democratic nominee for board president effective Saturday.
More coverage at Channel 7. We're just hoping Peraica and the Eastern European mafia can pull off the upset.

By the way I predicted that John Daley would be the next County Board President. I'm holding to my prediction.

We should just eliminate the electoral process alltogether in Chicago and Cook County. Dont matter who wins the election, Daley puts in who he wants amyway.

This reminds me of going to death investigations at old Duke's house. The family members all jumping over the body to try and get the wallet and whatever valuables the poor old bastard has. Its a cultural thing I suppose.

CCAGW Slams Congressional Pay Raise

Washington, D.C. The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) today criticized the House of Representatives for voting to raise its own pay by $3,300. The House yesterday voted 249 to 167 to reject a procedural attempt to get a direct vote on pay, which is scheduled for an automatic 2 percent increase. Unless changed by the Senate, rank-and-file members of Congress will make $168,500 starting in January 2007.
Congress amended the law in 1989 to allow for automatic “cost of living” increases every year unless there is a specific vote to cancel it. Last year, Rep. Matheson introduced a bipartisan bill (H.R. 4494) that would eliminate the automatic pay increase.
“Serving in Congress is the only job in the country where you can set your own salary without regard to performance or fiscal constraints,” CCAGW President Tom Schatz said. “It is shameful that Rep. Matheson was the only member to speak on the pay hike.

In an era of bitter political division, there is one position that members of both parties rally behind: fattening their paychecks at the expense of taxpayers.”

Financial disclosure forms show that members of Congress are hardly impoverished.

In addition to their salary, members benefit from perks that include free outpatient care at certain hospitals, frequent-flyer miles from government travel, free meals and vacations from lobbyists and business groups, access to first-class gyms and tennis courts, taxpayer-subsidized life and health insurance; and a special pension program. The benefits of lawmaking extend beyond time in office; nearly half of former lawmakers who are eligible move on to lucrative careers in the lobbying industry.

“Lavish salaries and perks for politicians help make life a financial struggle for the average taxpayer. Despite the $8.4 trillion national debt and the dismal approval ratings for Congress, members themselves think they are doing a terrific job! Maybe voters will offer a different assessment in November,” Schatz concluded.

The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste is the lobbying arm of Citizens Against Government Waste, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.

Hello Folks
The above information is taken from Citizens Against Goverment Waste, taxpayer watchdog group.

It is time to stop complaining about property tax's going up. And time to start doing something about it.
The aldermen/Daley should not have the ability to vote themselves a raise, they are overcompensated already.
It should be the people of the City of Chicago who determine if a raise should be given and that should be done by Vote.
A petition should be started to stop this undeserved raise in it tracks.
And that should be the case with the Stroger Replacement Issue.

Daley and the rest of his cronies knew that Storger had a massive stroke and was incapable of fulfilling his position as Cook County Board President, that is why Daley made an issue of specifically stating to the media that he was voting for Stroger. So he (Daley)could control what was going on with Cook County.Put in a puppet.
That is why we have not seen or heard from Stroger.
This is not some 3rd world country
where we have to accept who is thrown into office by King Richard and his Court
Stop complaining and start acting...
