Heroes Honored
The Lambert Tree and Carter Harrison Awards for heroism were handed out Tuesday. The winners:
- Last year, Sergeant Richard Plotke assisted two Morton Grove officers serve a warrant on West Summerdale. They were greeted with two offenders and gunfire. Sergeant Plotke shot both offenders. All the officers survived the ordeal.
- In January, off-duty firefighter Joe Kish rushed into a house fire on South Princeton. He rescued a man then went back into the smoke to make sure no one else was inside. The rescued man survived.
Left unsaid in the Channel 7 report is that Sergeant Plotke didn't just shoot both offenders - he killed them. We don't care what anyone says, but killing two armed offenders who had just attempted to murder police officers is heroism of the highest order and more than deserving of the Lambert Tree Award. Congratulations Sarge.

I SALUTE YOU SIR !!!!!!!!!
congrats sgt
if you don't get the promotion to LT....this will show us all what the city and the merit system is made for......
great job you are a real hero in my book....
Congradulations Sarge, but I heard That guy Kish is a suckass who happened to have a buddy nominate him for a very common occurance.
Good for the Sarge. I applaud you in your efffective duty under trying circumstances.
Good job.
that is the first I have heard of this shooting, funny the good shoots never get news time. southside copper good job sarge
Joe Kish is the son-in-law of retired Deputy Chief Pete Schrula. Both Good Guys.
Great job by both. Congrats to both Sgt. Plotke and FF Kish.

Over at Domelights, the unofficial site for the PPD, ChiBob has let everyone know about a fundraiser that will take place in Chicago on 10/13 to help cop killer Wesley Cook, aka Mumia Abu Jamal. I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this so called event, but I wanted to bring it to your attention nonetheless.
Justice for P/O Daniel Faulkner
Here is a list of supporters for this scumbag.
R.I.P. Danny.
Well deserved award.
Great work Sarge!
Sgt. Plotke did, but being severely overlooked, which is probably fine by him, is Sgt. Frank Valadez of the TRU unit, who also received the Lambert Tree Award. Sgt. Valadez shot and killed an armed offender who was in possession of two guns and led officers on a high speed chase on the Dan Ryan; the offender originally dropped his weapon as if he was surrendering then pulled a second weapon as Sgt. Valadez approached, he was then shot and killed. The offender was wanted for a homicide in the 013th District. Excellent job Frank!
AVE!
Hey Rick, if you could only the shoot the puck just as accurately. Helluva job, from a former Indian.
Killing two offenders is not the point of the Lambert Tree - nor should it qualify anyone for a merit appointment standing alone. That is part of the problem with the way promotions are handled on this job. I salute Sgt. Plotke, what he did was commendable and deserves to be honored - because he responded as an experienced and well-trained police officer should without hesitation or concern for himself - that would not be changed even if these two men had not died of their wounds. The fact that he also happened to have saved the lives of two other men, police officers or not, is also to be commended. Not a thing wrong there but let us remember that our primary responsibility is to preserve life and property, NOT TO KILL PEOPLE, NO MATTER HOW DESERVING.
Also killing people is not necessarily meritorious - sometimes it is more meritorious to simply prevent harm from coming to oneself or another. No objection to Plotke be meritoriously appointed if he has the right stuff and that is more than the ability to shoot straight.
Retired LT
Congratulations SGT Plotke as well as all of the other nominees who were up for the award.
Your wallets embroidered with, “Bad Ass Mutherf*cker” are currently being stitched at the shop and will be in the mail.
Stay safe!!
WITH ALL THE GREAT POLICE SHOOTING THIS YEAR,IT WILL BE HARD TO PICK THE BEST OF THE BEST, BUT AS LONG AS ALL THE POLICE GO HOME AND THE SHITHEADS GO TO HELL,THEN IT IS JUST WARDED.GOOD JOB BY ALL AND STAY SAFE..
Anyone got a list of the exempt changes that are going on as we speak???
This is the perfect canadate for a merit promotion to Lt. But we will believe it when we see it.
GREAT job Sgt. Plotke. Your heroism inspires me.
Sgt. Rick I applaud you on a job WELL DONE!!
Nice job sarge. Can I come back to the range now?
Dear Retired Lt, where did you retire from, Equipment and Supply?
Go fu%k yourself.
Retired Gangs North!!!
"Well, Sgt. Plotke, we'd like to maybe consider you for a merit promotion. Thanks, Supt. What Ward are you from?" "Gee, we're sorry, but those spots are taken". "Now get back out on the street."
Godd answer anonymous 8:23 Cant believe that retired goof Lt. Thinks that way
Nice Job Sarge. Good Luck!
Lt, It's a good fucking thing your retired. I'll bet you were a real stand up guy for your troops. For what that Sgt did he should be promoted today. You more then likely got yours on a merit so that is why your such an asshole. Have a nice retirement. C YAAAAAAA
You guys have it backwards...You get a promotion if YOU get shot not if you shot and kill an offender. The retired LT said it best, don't listen to these blood thirsty asshats Not retired Gangs East!!!
hey LT., when the cop next to you goes down, let's see how your, our primary responsibility is to preserve life and property, NOT TO KILL PEOPLE, NO MATTER HOW DESERVING, pans out. CAPS hasn't been the same since you retired.
What did Jim Curry get for killing that shithead who disarmed the P.O. in 025. He deserves a medal..
Frank didn't get the Lambert Tree award, he was nominated for it though, which in itself is a great honor. Frank, I believe has 3 award of valor's and numerous other awards for his heroics. Not to take away from Frank's heroics, but lets not take away Plotke's thunder, let the light shine on him for a moment or two, he deserves it!
I understand the whole idea of getting promoted if you get shot thing, under the same guise you should get the bump for saving the life of another police officer/s and averting them getting shot. That is what Plotke did and you shouldn't take anything away from that!
When is the last time you saw an officer get shot and then get promoted. I know several that were shot that got absolutely nothing. It used to be automatic. Not anymore
FYI SGT VALADEZ WON THE CARTER HARRISON/LAMBERT TREE A COUPLE YEARS AGO. I SAW HIS NAME ON THE PLAQUE AT CITY HALL.
Frank actually DOES have the Lambert tree. Check his stats clueless
What happened to Al O'connor? I thought he was going to get it.
Plotke is a great guy! Has been since the day I met him in the academy. He deserves a meritorious nomination for LT.
Whoever is using my name, stop! If you desire to know what I think of Plotke ask me in person 016/2nd watch.
Nice job, Plotke (who, by the way, happens to be another example of a fine former 025 district police officer).
Great job sgt congrats!Lts not forget all the other candidates
There were several other acts of heroism nominated congrats and great job to all of them.
1:22:44 retired LT you are not going to get the OPS job so quite sucking for it. Sgt you did and excellent job and I am honored to say you are my friend.....

Speaking of shootings good job to the copper on his shooting last Sat 23 Sep. He did not kill him but he did get him after an exchange of gun fire.
I wasn't saying that he didn't have the award but that he didn't receive it this time, Frank is good people, no doubt about it.
the truth is they should give awards to anyone who does the right thing. A f'kn award what doesnt cost the city anything, usually some kiss ass gets a lot of awards sucking up to his boss. The truth is most coppers should get awards for stuff they do but instead they get a pat on the back and the shaft.....
Getting an award for doing the right thing?
You already do crybaby, it's called a paycheck.
