GPS - Sound Off
We noticed in a comments section a week or two ago that someone posted a story that told the tale of a couple of cops from SOS who were tracked by GPS going somewhere they weren't supposed to be going. Their sergeant called them on it and these softballs lied, claiming that they were on their way to their mission instead of on the way to who knows where. We don't know if they were on this transfer order, but we wouldn't be surprised. We did a little inquiring around and heard that every vehicle in SOS is now trackable by a GPS system. Big brother is here and operational.
We can see that this is going to change police work as we have known it and experienced it. We'd speculate that there won't be any more laying down on jobs - if you leave a job, there better be a code issued. Same thing with traffic stops taking a little longer than usual so as to get a little "travel time" to lunch locations. We don't even want to think of all the holes that midnight cars could disappear into that are about to be general knowledge. And should they GPS everything that's out there, the closest car is going to get dinged every time something pops up on the OEC geo-mapping systems rather than whoever is up getting the jobs. Lord knows what this is going to do to plainclothes units or specialized ones. Anyone care to speculate?

Off topic but hey, Im retired
I noticed tha the dept is now authorizing 124 gr +P ammo for the 9mm.
Does anyone have any reccomendations for .38 2 in snubs?
I currently have the old 158 gr +P lead hollow points the dept used to use.
I see now theyre using jacketed rounds, but for a 4 inch gun
I need to know about a 2 in bbl
Thanks
Their not on the transfer order, maybe its his clout. His commander supposedly was with the Sgt. when this occured they were both monitering this system.
Hate to say it, but we've only brought this on ourselves. Too much poor response in the Districts, spending waaaay too much time down on routine assignments. It was bound to happen. People had better start to understand that the old ways are all but gone. Everyone out there in a beat car now will HAVE to work for a living, every day.
I see people in the near future being gigged so often for f**king off on jobs that they will simply have to resign, being off so many days without pay. Dogs beware, there is very little wiggle room for you while you spend the day pushing your responsibilities (and your assignments) on other people.
GPS or a new dumptruck, hmmm, GPS or a new dumptruck? It'll take them a little while to outfit all of the vehicles.....probably do them with each brake job or overhaul......y'know 250,000 some odd miles. I think the GPS's on the horses will probably be the funniest (a sarcastic note for those of you unable to tell). This screws the working beat car that hops from t-stop to t-stop trying to get its stats up too. Productivity at a new all time low. I guess my person with a gun calls are going to be where I get mine now............
BULLSHIT!
when the sergeant called the s.o.s. guys they were obseved in real time doing a u turn and heading back to the target area at xx mph.
just wait till an inspector hands you a speeding ticket.
***Off topic*** The Dept is currently writing up an order that would ask retired P.O.'s to volunteer in the case of a terrorist attack or mass disaster.
Good idea but the city will not insure the retirees or cover them if they are injured in the performance of duty. I can't think of one retiree that should take the city up on this offer should a disaster happen. Stay tuned for the special order coming soon.
About a month ago, I was given a job at the most Northwest part of the district. I accepted the job and advised the dispatcher that I was coming from the Southeast end.
Her response: I Know, I saw that, Thanks for helping out.
When I called and aksed the zone what that meant, I was put on hold due to a foot chase on the air(understandable reason to be put on hold, although I never got an answer)
FYI:
Its here, whether we want to believe it or not.
Lets not give the dept a reason to suspend or terminate one of us.
Be safe.
Can the GPS track and locate our vehicles in realtime if an officer is screaming for more cars or calling a 10-1?
If it could, its an officer safety benefit.
If not??????????
I CAN'T WAIT TO RETIRE FROM THIS CHICKEN SHIT PUSSIE JOB!!!!!!!!
how about putting some of those breathalyzer units in the cars of the exempts?
I have no problem with a GPS on my squad car, as long as they don't have a problem with me taking extra loooong on my jobs to give our citizens the absolute BEST police service. I'm sure others will do the same. Watch for sergeants to have a fit because they have to handle our jobs due to the daily backlog. If we all start following all the silly nonsense written in the General Orders, we'll drive 'em nuts!!
Say goodbye to the days of two hour lunches, or lying down on jobs. Also you will not be allowed to have any fun what so ever. If it is determined that you had fun on this job you will be severly disciplined. This means no laughing, no smiling, no cheerful attitudes. Additionally, it will be implimented immediately, that no officer will show any signs of joy, and if they do we will cut manpower, so you can work harder, to break you spirit. THIS POLICE DEPARTMENT IS DETERMINED TO BE THE MOST PRODUCTIVE, WHILE UTILIZING THE LEAST AMOUNT OF RESOURCES. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED
Just speculation, but I predict: Everyone is going to be REALLY pissed, complain about it to no end, threaten to stop working, then accept it and move on. Sad, but unfortuantley true.
It's currently in 140 cars, all of SOS for sure, and select new vehicles throughout the city. They want to put them in every car in the fleet but we all know that isn't doable, why put that kind of money into a shitheap. it is all trackable on a map........
JUST TO GET OFF THE SUBJECT GUYS,AT THE MOST RECENT DEPARTMENT COMMENDATIONS CEREMONY OUR SUPERINTENDENT AWARDED TWO CIVILIANS,MARIKAY HEGARTY AND JOSEPH PERFETTI FOR SPEARHEADING A DUBIOUS IF NOT USELESS PROGRAM THAT HAD LITTLE OR NO EFFECT ON CRIME JUST ANOTHER SLAP IN THE FACE TO OFFICERS WHO DAILY RISK THEIR LIVES AND NEVER RECEIVE ANY RECOGNITION THESE TWO GET RECOGNITION FOR BEING A FRIEND OF THE SUPERINTENDENT TRYING TO JUSTIFY THERE EXISTENCE.
GPS is coming citywide SOS is the pilot. The technology is cheaper now and they are looking at it as a good management tool. The Sgt or above will be able to tell where his cars are on the PDT. I don't know why people weren't expecting this in this day of accountability.
The only ones that will be pissed are the dogs and asshats that are never where they are supposed to be in the first place. No more sneaks to the credit union, the neighboring district bar zone to babe/guy watch, or that lunch location that is too far out of the district.
Face it, the city actually wants you patrolling where you are supposed to be. They want their money's worth from you. The cameras are coming too and not just in 005 and 016. Get used to being miked and recorded when you get out of the car. You have two choices, suck it up and accept it or quit.
IF THEY PUT A GPS IN 002, 3RD WATCH CARS, THERE WOULD BE ONE BIG BLIP IN THE ROLL CALL ROOM, AS THEY ALL WATCH WHATEVER SPORTS GAME'S ON TV, INSTEAD OF BEING OUT ON THE STREET!
--OFF MESSAGE--
Obama elected President. Obama pardons Rezko and Blagojevich. Rezko sells remainder of lot to Obama for top price of $1.00. Obama names Blagojevich as the United States Attorney for Northern Illinois and Todd Stroger as Secretary of the Treasury based on the "Toddler's" experience as an investor banker. Obama names Gianoullius as head of the FBI with a priority of fighting organized crime.
I'm a sergeant in patrol on the westside. I have not been informed about any GPS yet, and I have not seen any hard evidence of it. However, I will mention that the other night I rode on some job and I did not come up on the air at all (no dispatcher recognizing my voice without me giving beat). BUT, shortly after responding, the job miraculously popped up on my PDT. We have the new computers and brand new impalas. I chalked it up to a typo by the dispatcher....but who knows??? Be careful people. FUCK! No more bullshitting on the logs, dammit!
All right, I'll try this one again.
1)Get out of your vehicle
2)look at the roof
3)If U see a black hockey puck and your vehicle is NOT equipped with XM radio than You have GPS
Not a lot of guess work involved.

You're making it sound like only beat cars that answer calls are dogs. What about the units, tact, gangs, dics...all those others who tend to go outside the city for their 2 hour lunches? What about them that when their called upon to handle a shooting on the southside, they get their when they can from lunch at faaaar northside? You say everyone in a beat car has to work for a living? Buddy, beat officers actually stay and work for 8 1/2 hours while everyone else seems to work less. I doubt the reason why this is happening is because of backlogs in a district; it's mainly do to everyone else who does not work a beat car disappearing from the city or area on a regular base.
I SPECULATE THAT WE WILL HAVE TO DO WHAT WE GET PAID TO DO WORK!!!! DAMN SOS REALY SCREWED THE CLOUTLESS COPPER
To the people that think they wont put GPS in all cars you should be doing stand-up.
Do you think the dept. would set themselves up for law suits from all angles.
Sure they can see you f#$%ing up, but they can also find you if you
don't answer the radio because something happend to you.
Along with many other reasons.
As to the cost, the dept. can lease the units and they can be moved from old to new vehicles.
A P.O. that was present for the instalation told me that it took less then 30 minutes. It was installed by a contractor, who came to the unit; they did the entire unit in a few days.
By the way, when everyone gets their new blueberries they too can be used as GPS trackers. Do a google search of GPS and you to can do this with your kids cell phone. All for $5.95 a month.
Just do your job and you don't have to worry.
DO THE BOSSES CARS HAVE THESE TOO?! HOW ABOUT ALL THE TAKE HOME CARS THESE MORONS USE TO DRIVE THEIR FAMILIES AROUND IN?!
Every CTA bus has GPS. What the hell, your cell phone has GPS most likely. It's not going to go away. The only people that it will hurt are the dogs. Cheer up, sooner or later it might save your life.
watch out for the radios, Thats how they will be able to track you.
It won't be installed in a vehicles. Also the city will have to pay everytime they use it. If I'm correct I don't think the CPD has launched a satelite into space to monitor our cars. They will have to pay a company for GPS and we all know how prompt the city is in paying their bills. They will use it if you are dirty..
well I for one have a new mission in my professional career! I have to study extra hard for the sgts test! Just think about it... No more face to face logging of the cars for the sgts. All I would have to do now is pull up a gps position of each one of my cars during my tour and log them where they are at. Gives me a whole lot of time to show all the pretty ladies my new sgts stripes while my troops are out there forced to work extra hard!!! I'm joking of course but I know some of you out there see the truth of my statement. More work for the grunts, less for the bosses. 018's, 019's sgts will be thrilled by all the fur they can pull in now. That's right I said it.
TO 11:24 I RECOMMED CARRYING A SAWED OFF SHOTGUN OR THAT DIRTY HARRY GUN YOU ARE RETIRED DO WHAT YOU WANT TIME TO HAVE FUN
Laughing my ass off...Does this mean officers will actually have to go to their jobs and beats....so much for shopping on company time !!
SO THEY CAN TRACK YOUR VEHICLE WHO CARES THEY NEED TO UP DATE G.O'S REGARDING MOVEMENT OF VEHICLES. WHERE DOES IT SAY YOUR VEHICLE MUST BE MOVING AT ALL TIME. HERE IS A GOOD ONE INSTEAD OF LYING AND SAYING YOUR DOING FOOT PATROL WALK AWAY 2 BLOCKS. IN A HALF HOUR WRITE A PARKER AT THE END OF YOUR WALK. IF YOU GET BANGED ON THE RADIO SAY YOUR GOING BACK TO YOUR VEHICLE. SOMETIMES ALL THAT COLLEGE YOU BOYS GOTZ MAKE YOU A LITTLE DULL AROUND THE EDGES.
I dont give a f*ck....stick GPS up my ass, I still aint doing shit.

My belief is the reason that the FOP only endorses Democratics is Donohue, Bella, et al desire to follow in Bill Nolan's footsteps and go to work in a high-paying job under a Democratic electee.
They only care about themselves and care nothing about higher taxes and continued corruption.
Vote!!!!!! Vote!!!!!!! Vote!!!!!!
Thousand of American have died fighting for the rights of every American to be able to vote. Don’t let there deaths be in vain. Honor them by voting. Polls open at 6:00 am and close at 7:00 p.m. God Bless America !!!
brothers and sisters...
gps can be a life saver. it can also be abused by the brass who have nothing better to do than track your speed going here to there, and whether you're moving or sitting still too long. they'll say they won't use it to initiate discipline. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. make sure it finds it's way into your contract that they CANNOT initiate discipline solely on gps results. that's all i have to say. be careful. my agency is a living h-e-l-l right now because of this stuff. it's not aiming at slugs, but at men and women trying to do their jobs...stay safe all.

The above post is probably the most truthful post Ive read on here yet. When will we wake up and realize that fop is not a union, That fop has not and will never do a damn thing but take care of themselves. Anybody that doea any type pf police work at this time and point is playing russian rullet.
I know this is off topic, however, I just want to suggest to everyone that receives the FOP Newsletter to take a look at the article written by Father Nangle. This article is one of the best I have seen in a long time. There are a whole lot of police officers who could learn something from this message.....Take Care and Be safe everyone

Ya Bitches you are going to have to EARN that pension!!!!
I attended a benefit at Bourbon Street on Sunday for the families of 3 police officers from the 022 who are either ill or have family members who are ill. This benefit showed what the Police Department really is. This was a wonderful display of "Family" support and needed at a time when the morale within this department is very low. Anyone who attended this benefit should be proud of the Chicago Police Department and the support we show for each other when the going gets tough. A little bit of charity goes a long way and we only have each other. It sure felt good to be a Chicago Cop yesterday. Thanks!

You can just type LMAO now! Don't worry we will still get our shopping done!
Last time I checked the officers working BEAT CARS do not get a two hour lunch. Insps. do not write up officers in specialized units. They write officers in the Beat Cars-Rarely Tac.Teams. Talk about the haves and have nots. I hope FOP does something about this. Second City - When are you going to have a commentary about Insps?
To I dont give a f*ck: Run that moronic comment by your neighbors and get their take on it and you.
I dont say run it by the cops you work with, they, undoubtedly already know that you are a useless piece of shit.
You can all thank ADS MALLOY for all the BS that started as soon as Hilliard made him the Accountability guy. All the changes in the dept. started when he moved up. He ruined what used to be an enjoyable job, even for workers.
HERE IS A HELPFUL HINT:
If you wrap your whole car in aluminum foil, it will defeat their ability to use the GPS on your vehicle.
I took the GPS off my car and attached it to the married boss' girlfriend's car. Now when he runs my GPS he thinks I am cheating on the woman he is cheating on. Confuses the hell out of him.
And don't think it will be too long before our personal CPD handheld radios will also have GPS. So the old trick of one partner dropping off his partner at his girlfriend's house won't be possible unless he leaves his radio with the partner.

Hey northwest, maybe the dispatcher knew you were coming from the other side of the district because that's the same pathetic line you use everytime you get a job!!!!
Way to go, you fuckin' pooch. Make sure I have to answer your jobs while you're fuckin' off somewhere. If they haven't GPS'd your car, they need to so you can stop fuckin' your fellow coppers!
Jagoff!

Don't be jealous because I don't do shit and have a good spot. Hate the game not the player !!PS it's only a 5 day work week and retirement is soon....you're all doomed !!
I can't wait to retire to beef to IAD and OPS about you slackers !!
11/06/2006 07:15:54 PM
Not on my watch !!
11/06/2006 09:40:10 PM
They should be, you have run amuck !!
They have been installed in all SOS cars. They track every 30 seconds or so. You're radio will start making a scratching noise, that's when it's working.
I have two vehicles, Both with GPS Navigation Systems. Neither of them has has a visible antenna. So just because you cant see a GPS antenna does not mean that one is not in the car.
When they started installing GPS on all these cars, they did the same on the CTA special cars. The sgt I worked for said he was called into the bosses office to check it out and he said that the GPS system tracks every car by a different colored light indicator with reference to time. It's been a while but it was something like a green light is showing when you are moving and have been doing so for 15 mins. Next there is a yellow light when you are sitting for 15-30 mins, and a red light when sitting longer than thirty mins. Now this may be a different set-up for CTA special, but this is what I heard, and the SGT had no reason to lie to me.
my balls tingle whenever the GPS is activated. Has anyone else felt this sensation? I love GPS, I want to marry GPS
This department ruins everything...
everyone relax! Ok, so walsh construction is gonna install these little blippies. They are all going break soon anyway. Plus, coppers and computers just dont mix.
Common phrases in the stations: "crap! it froze!" "Hey, where did my stuff go?" "Wheres that one page with the stuff to get me to the other page so I can get cta specail?" "Umm, the state of Illinois symbol is missing here....now how the hell do I run a name?!" "Damn! the buttons fell off the pdt!"
I remember when Lojack was first installed in some squad cars....it worked fine...beeped like hell...only problem was, no one knows how to work it.
Also, this department is probbalby going to make it a pain in the ass for a sgt to discipline a po for not being where he is suppossed to be....download the map, log the event, send six copies to senior birdshit on hat, eight copies to eagles on sleeves....how many sgts really want to deal with that?
This will all blow over...or.....we are all screwed.
Do your job bitches!!!!
Fuckin cry babys
Adjust your behavior to deal w/it!!!
No phone call, yea I know it sucks, but hey take your lunch and 2 personals. thats 1 for each officer in car.
Go down on what u have to, get car washed, get gas, meet sgt, do park check, do mission, do fooT patrol, i think thats about 4 hours!
Now go do other stuff!!!
BUT BACK EACH OTHER UP!
THATS IMPORTANT!
GOOD LUCK, BE SAFE!
GPS = who cares!
I hear from guys up here that a tinfoil hat put over the GPS antenna can disrupt the signal. Many trips out of the city to White Castle have been made this way . . .
Wrap the antannae in tin foil, or put a large soup-type can over it. Can't track what you can't get a signal from. :)
COMPLAIN COMPLAIN.....IF YOU DON'T LIKE YOUR JOB LEAVE..WTF...CRY.....CRY....
LEAVE TRUST ME YOU WILL NOT BE MISSED....
Put a GPS at Tulsa Power and you'll have an ultra sonic blip. The LAPA bros hang there all night and day and nobody says shit!
If you are white, you will be noticed and admonished. Irony is it will be a LAPA doing it. We love it!

WRAP TINFOIL AROUND YOUR AND THEN DUCT TAPE A PLASTIC BAG OVER YOUR HEAD! YOU FUCKING WACK JOB! WHAT THE FUCK DO YOUR JOB.
One thing we should look into is how much does this cost the city? How much is it going to cost city to install in each squad and maintain it. This is the real issue, can this system be viable and cost effective for city expense.
11/07/2006 09:34:26 PM
I don't need to be monitored to do my job, asshat. If you are so in favor of this, why not strap on one of those toddler leashes, then give the handle to your sarge...
dumbass.

What? You go to all that trouble for white friggin castle!? Man, If you are gonna take a trip, take a trip! Go to great america for a while or something....You've got a great idea for a commercial....zip past all the great restaraunts downtown to make your escape to oak park for freakin white castle!
the department has had the ability to track you through your hand held radio for years now but they dont because it is just too much data Dont worry unless you are doing something illegal
Go to great america for a while or something....
