Griese to Get a Shot?

Report from ESPN says he got half the practice snaps this week:
  • While Chicago Bears backup quarterback Brian Griese continues to deflect questions about stepping in for a struggling Rex Grossman, it seems that the Bears are at least preparing for that possibility.

Griese has been receiving half of the reps in practice this week, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on its Web site, citing an unnamed player.

Here's how it ought to go - Grossman gets the first half to prove himself. If Grossman sucks, he sits. If Grossman does better than a 1.3 rating like last week, Lovie and company kick it down the road another week. Griese is getting something like $14 million over 5 years to sit around. He ought to get some playing time, especially with the playoffs looming. And if the Bears are far enough ahead, start getting him some playing time.

This just in....a towel boy will be starting next game at quarterback...it appears the towel boy is the godson of papa bear Halas....when questioned by ESPN Sportcenter, Virgina McCaskey, team matriarch, replied, "Sure, our quarterbacks have put in time and effort, but, hey, this is the Chicago way! Such a small favor, he really does have merit if you think about it....besides, look at all the new flower pots around the staduim! Aren't they fantastic!!" In an un-related incident, upper eschelon Bears personnel were observed leaving a Soldier Field Christmas Party with towels wrapped around USC...apparently adhering to another Chicago tradition: no checks.

Griese would get a shot but however, when he took the test he did know the proper answers for the test. Grossman answered every question with "notify the watch commander" and he scored well. Griese, even though he had more experience, paid his dues and played in more games did not have the answers and was not part of the Bears 30 percent merit picks so he sits on the sideline.

As much as I like Grossman and realizing that it's not a good idea to remove a q/b at this stage in the game, I have to agree with those that are calling for Griese to get a shot. Rex just doesn't have it. He's too short, makes bad a decisions and is erractic at best. Which Rex will we see today, good Rex or "Mr. Interception Rex"? We will not get to the Superbowl with the level of inconsistency that he displays. Brians time has come.

If Grossman gets the boot on Monday, his son should get his job. Griese will have to wait. This is Chicago, Cook County Il. Dangit! That's the way things work around here.

Is the cross dressing, transexual loving Bob Avelini still out there? He got the Bears into the playoffs in 77 he could do it again. ;-)
