"Hundreds" of Guns Collected
Kind of a step backwards from the "thousands" or so collected other times they run this event.
- Hundreds of firearms, including some deadly assault weapons, were swapped for credit cards Saturday during Chicago's second citywide gun trade-in.
- Anyone bringing in an assault weapon received a $100-dollar credit card, a $50-dollar card for a rifle or handgun, and $10-dollars for a BB gun or replica gun.
Who's got the final tally? And how many stories have you heard about true collector's pieces being melted down for scrap metal. What a waste.

Area Two gun team was probably foaming at the mouth having to not have a chance in hell of collecting any of the guns being swapped for credit cards. Instead of being sad guys about the gun turn overs hang some of that mistletoe in your office and maybe some of the nieve p.o.'s will feel sorry for you chumps and plant a big wet one on your lips.

Sorry Lefty, uz people just cannot have my guns. I would like to thank everyone involved in sending the stuff to the deployed CPD officers-Father Nagle, Sup. Cline, FOP, all the officers putting the stuff together, whomever made the kind donations, and anyone I missed.
I stopped back by my house on the way over and when my wife showed me the thoughtful gifts I won't lie, my eyes teared up a bit.
I especially liked the T-shirt, the CPD challenge coin (now in my pocket), and the engraved christmas decoration (now on my family's tree in Chicago).
It is painful to miss christmas with my family but the actions of my CPD family takes some of the sting out of deploying.
Thank you all and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I wonder if it would be a waste if some copper was shot by one of those cherished and sought after collector pieces, these guns aren't being send in from Deeerfield or Wilmette, but from areas where guns and violences is an everyday way of life. One would think anyone involved in law enforcement would appauld any and every effort in ridding the streets of these weapons
regardless of the source. If the weapon turn in has gone from thousands to hundreds, its still a good thing, anyone of those guns could just as easily ended up in the hands of some hoodlum. Why can't some of you people let a good thing just be a good thing, its always a piss, moan or a groan
Area two gun team only arrests cops, firemen, and legit citizens.. they're cowards. If it wasn't for they're inside State Police FTIP & ATF info on legit citizens- they would never get a pinch. FAILURE TO REGISTER........outstanding!
There hasn't been a newsworthy, legitimate gun seizure in the Southside since the days of LT (now CPT) S.G. The man was a god at finding guns throughout the Southside. 006 is better now that he's a Watch Commander. Trust me, used to be on the Area 2/Calumet City gun team and let me tell you-we handled our business! If there was a gun-we found it. We DID have over "thousands" of guns seized and we made a HUGE impact in the crime world. Hundreds? What a joke! We were just brave men who went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure guns were taken out of dangerous individuals' hands. Say what you will about the current Area 2 gun team, but watch what you say about the old Area 2/Calumet City gun team professionals. We made every Area so-called gun team cringe with envy. Nobody came close to our stats. Nobody.
Fellas just don't have what it takes anymore to really call themselves "Gun team" guys. Just telling it like it really is.
Police this morning were searching for a gunman who opened fire in a pizzeria in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood, killing a 15-year-old boy and wounding two other teens.
The victims, all males, were shot around 6:40 p.m. Sunday at Pizza Nova, 3704 W. 26th St., Chicago police said.
Cirilo Jaramillo, the owner of the pizzeria, said four male customers were sitting together in the restaurant after ordering. Jaramillo, 48, said he saw the shooter, whom he described as a young man, enter the restaurant through the front door and fire about five shots at the customers from the doorway. Roughly 15 people were inside the restaurant at the time, he said.
"Police haven't been vigilant [in the neighborhood]," he said in a telephone interview.

........this morning a p.o. from the 005th District was sent by one of the sergeants to investigate the pounding noise coming from upstairs in the Area 2 GUN TEAM office. The p.o. reported back to the sergeant that all was well, ...sort of. The p.o. said the gun team guys were indeed hanging mistletoe everywhere they could, over the door, on the ceiling and especially under the bosses desks. The p.o. said he never saw so much mistletoe in his life. The point of this little story is if you're a girl, walk over to the Area 2 GUN TEAM office and give the guys a smooch or two. They have worked hard all year and are extremely upset that they didn't collect the 1,200 guns that were turned over by the City of Chicago residents. If they did get all those guns, they would have had a grand total of 4000 guns for the year. Pity! Oh, and if you are in the gift giving mood, anyone, the Area 2 GUN TEAM guys would probably like a gift of CHAPSTICK....remember...there is a lot of mistletoe under the bosses desk. Have a Merry Christmas gun team guys. Remember, there is still next year to impress the boss!
Lefty you narrow minded little lamb. Pfleger is an opportunist who pays no attention to the law. Ask yourself, what possible medium does he represent that makes him a legal recipient of guns?! Is he an FFL holder, an FOID card carrier, a C&R gun enthusiast? I DOUBT IT ! Has Pfleger been convicted of any crimes? Looking at him and listening to his Jessie Jackson-like rants, he doesn't qualify to the mental requirements on an FOID or FFL.

I wonder what the actual breakdown is here: how many bb guns are listed as a 'firearm turn-in'. Not so long ago, the districts would claim them as 'recovered firearms' in their stats--a cheap way of padding the books.
I'm pretty right-of-center when it comes to politics and a big proponent of our right to bear arms, and in such, really think the now 'highly decorated' A/2 Gun Team and their recent high profiled stunts are bullshit. Having said all that, however, I find it hard to say that this gun turn-in program is a bad thing. That is, until I broke it down like this:
Who is turning them in? The thugs we want to lock up? The gangs we (should) stop and shag off the corner and stop in traffic? No. It's the legit or nearly legit citizen that reads the paper and most likely has a job. It's the church-going folk, the ones that we DON'T need to worry about. They have these guns/bb guns in their homes and learn they can make a few bucks before Christmas by dropping it off at a church. Hell, they even get to feel like they are doing a service to the community by turning Uncle Roscoe's roscoe he brought back from Europe during the war. It's just collecting dust, so they may think.
Is this who we should be grabbing guns from?
The felons, the bangers, the dope dealers, etc.--the ones we DO have to worry about--won't even consider dropping a gun for 50 clams, or 100 for something they would do federal time for. Why would they give up a tool of their 'trade', something they have to protect the 'spot' the gang or their dope. They would be suspicious of police when they offer amnesty: they might get tied to a body, to a crime scene, to whatever the gun might link them to. They might get stopped while on the way to the drop off. It might be a trap.
No sir, these programs only take guns away from the wrong people. I imagine someone will say (and has above, I think) that a child may be saved by one of these turn-ins. Sure, I suppose.
And I may also sprout an extra pair of testicles, but that's a different thread altogether.
Taking that approach is a piss-poor blame game failing to recognize the lack of parental supervision and common sense in the homes where this tragedy sould/would take place. Kids are kids, get into EVERYTHING, and failure to recognize this and take precautions is a supreme example of American ignorance. If you want to consider 'for the sake of the children' (recent ballot vote question?), then have a program offering free gun locks. That'd save more lives, I should think.

Actual count was just short of 3,000. This includes approx. 150 BB guns which were given up for $10. Yes, there were a number of wonderful collectors pieces, mainly vintage WWII stuff - some American, some German, some Japanese. Mostly the stuff was junk, but a few of the pieces were easily worth $100s if not $1000s each. Shame to melt it all down without bringing in a collector or museum to take a peek at it first.

The lawful trade in firearms is heavily regulated. "Gun buy backs" are nothing but a waste of time. One needs to attack the mindset of the criminal who is willing to use a firearm, not the firearm itself. Think of drunk driving.....we don't ban cars, we attack the conduct of the driver.

Because they like to go after senior citizen gun collectors for their "arrests", rather than arresting gang bangers who actually carry and USE them illegally. Which do you think is more of a threat to society?
All these bad posts about the hotties in Area 2 Gun team make me sick! Those guys have it going on and we girls love the "Gun Show" they perform for us.

You ask why? How about made up warrants with no CI to produce? How about going after good people like firemen and dead coppers families.
