Blogger Maintenance

Blogger was supposed to be down from 0945 until 1145 this morning for routine maintenance. Unfortunately, the server that contains this particular blog was down for an extra 3 hours, resulting in people being unable to see anything or post comments. It's back up now though, so the circus continues.

Open post in the meantime.

A man was going to bed one night when his wife told him that he had left the light on in the shed. She could see the light was on from the bedroom window. As the man looked for himself he saw that there were people in the shed taking things.

The man phoned the police, but they told him that no one was in the area to help him at that time, but they would send someone over as soon as they were available.

He said "OK," hung up, and waited one minute, then phoned the police back. "Hello" he said, "I just called you a minute ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now 'cause I've shot them."

Within five minutes there were half a dozen police cars in the area, an Armed Response unit, the works. Of course, they caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the officers said: "I thought you said that you shot Them!" The man replied, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

GOOD OLE WALTER IN 019 if THIS COULD ONLY HAPPEN TO YOU

One night a police officer was staking out a particularly rowdy bar for possible DUI violations. At closing time, he saw a fellow stumble out of the bar, trip on the curb and try his keys on five different cars before he found his. The man sat in the front seat fumbling around with his keys for several minutes.
Meanwhile, all the other patrons left the bar and drove off. Finally he started his engine and began to pull away. The police officer was waiting for him. As soon as he pulled onto the street, the officer stopped him, read him his rights and administered the breathalyzer test to determine his blood-alcohol content. The results showed a reading of 0.0. The puzzled officer demanded to know how that could be. The driver replied, "Tonight I'm the designated decoy."

Speaking of Maintenance...

Nearly half a billion dollars will be given to U.S. cities and regions to help reduce the risk of terror attacks on ports, transit systems and chemical plants, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced Tuesday.

The other four cities considered in Tier 1 are Chicago ($12.8 million); Philadelphia ($9.7 million); Greater Los Angeles ($7 million); and Atlanta ($3.4 million). Amtrak will get $8.3 million.

Alderscum Troutman was overheard saying, "I fitin to get me some of dat money. I needs dat money because Ray Ray always attacks my Newports.

I knows about chemical plants, this guy I let borrow my car has a mixes a lot of chemicals in da basement but he be not home and I's dont know when he be back--does dat count? Da FBI say he is on a lamb, but I always tell dem he'd be a man."

As long as it's open –

I saw a few other posts regarding the upcoming reelections. We all complain about the police service on the west end of 008, 016 and 022, that’s where most of us live, and quite obviously don’t have the appropriate level of concern from our local elected official(s). I live on the west end of 008 and I call, and I complain actually about more than crime related issues. I have spoken to the Alderman, and after he was through with his smoke up the rear gibberish, only the wishes of he who contribute$$ are heard.

With that in mind, there is a copper (Sergeant) running for Alderman of the 23rd Ward. I don’t know him well or if he’ll be better, but I promise you he CAN NOT be worse! The present Alderman is useless and EXPECTS to get reelected by the working class City Worker out here who knows of nothing better. For those of you who live out here, look around. Has he done anything? He only opposed the Section 8 eligible construction where the new Garfield Ridge library is at the angry hue and cry of the Garfield Ridge and Clearing residents, when hundreds of us showed up and he HAD to stop it. I heard but not from him that he was all for it when they (The bank/contractor) offered to put the new library inside on the 1st floor. Why would anyone even consider that? Not out here.

Do you see the new streetlights going up in the 13th and 14 Wards? Those Aldermen are spending their $1-million yearly contingency to improve their communities JUST BEFORE THE ELECTION! Is the 23rd Ward? NOPE! Those new lights are in up to Austin; right where the 23rd Ward starts. Look at the graffiti, LOOK AT THE POLICE SERVICE, Look at the pot holes and cave-in’s. 63rd St (up to Central) and Central Ave were recently resurfaced. Was any in the 23rd Ward? NOPE!

I could go on and on, but none of us have that kind of time. We need to get this useless and ineffective (for the residents) politician out. If the copper fails us, we can get him out too, but we have to start now before we turn into a community just like those that we hate to police! Vote Zalewski out! Hell, write yourself in if you want, but let's get someone else! YOU HAVE TO TELL your family and friends. Tell your neighbors, seniors down the block and the people next to you in church, tell anyone who can vote out here to vote him out. Tell them why and let them know they have to make the change. We’ll all benefit. By the way, the coppers name is Maida. Zalewski is obviously concerned; Madia’s election bid has been challenged. For a complete list of the February election candidates, information is available at: www.odernvertebrate.com/elections/2007-chicago/index.shtml

FYI- The last day to register to vote in the Feb 27th Mayoral and Aldermanic Elections is Tuesday, January 30th. There are enough of us to make a change. Let's start talking about this before the FOP tells me they are backing Daley...please!

SCC,

Curious if you've made the switch over to Beta w/ Blogger/Google.

Also wondering what other options are out there besides Blogger. It's such a PITA with the maintenance.

Can anyone recommend something that's stable, whether it's something free or that I'd have to pay for.

Thanks in advance.

That is why I am Voting for Sommerville(SP?) for the 19th Ward. Ginger has done nothing for me or my family except give us a blue garbage can for recycling. We in the west end of 022 pay a lot for our homes but are ignored by the Politicians and get little to no Police Service. I do not know if he will be better but there is no way he can be worse.

Why would the U.S. Government spend one penny on the Chicago Ports. The Chicago Port system has been dead for the past 20 years. There are no international ships comming into the Chicago Ports. If they do it's maybe 1 or 2 a year.

The U.S. Customs abandoned the Chicago Ports 20 years ago, Just try to get a Customs Officer out to one of the Ports.

Next time your on duty, Try to gain entry to the Chicago Ports at 95th Street or 130th Street. The standard response is, Sorry the Chicago Police are not alowed on the property unless an emergecy has been declaired and 911 is called.

The Chicago Ports are not operated as a Port System. 99% of the business conducted at the ports do not involve maritime business. The wharehouses and sheds are leased out to private companies and the product in shipped in and out by train and/or truck, not by ships.

All other international Ports systems in the US are guarded and secured by local Police, Customs and the FBI. The chicago Ports are guarded by $9.00 an hour security guards, most of whom dont speak understandable Enlish. Did I mention that they dont leave the guard shack, and there are no patrols of the Port property by anyone, ever!

I can remember a day when the Chicago ports were controled by the CPD and Customs. Now you as the CPD cant get access to the so called PORT OF CHICAGO. That is if your on DUTY. Its easy to get in if your in your personal car though. Just pull up to the gate, tell the guard you going to company ABC. They will act all bad ass, write down your plate number and wave you you right in, no questions asked!

Did I say they are unarmed guards to boot.

But the Mayor and HLS will assure you our Ports are SECURE. If you would like to how secure? Just go walk through one of the gapping holes cut into the fence by the local scrapers. Make sure you take several days worth of fresh drinking water and some food with. It will take several days befor some one who works there confronts you as to why you are there.

Not secure, "thats silly, just silly, silly-silly-silly".

If this is a sort of 'open-mic night,' I have a question.

I've been a cop for about 5 years on a six-man department in the ass end of nowhere, Colorado. I've been thinking about coming back to Chicago and putting in for CPD.

What do I need to know, other than 'don't?'

I'm sick of hearing complaints from you pieces of SH*&T who live on the westend of 008 AND COMPLAINNNN. I personally work in 008, and hard at that! I believe your refering of the 10 sector of the past! I'll give you an exapmle of our shitty service to you ungratfull F*&K heads. 10 SECTOR CAR locked up an "offender" from the courts who got the address from the glove box of one of you pukes from going to a car wash in uniform, looking for a discount.the offender attempted to burglarize the house with the odpo home. LONG STORY SHORT......OUR "POOR POLICE SERVICE" coupled with shitty police skills went directly to the "courts" and found the vehicle described and got charges approved on a positive ID.I CAN GO ON AND ON but I dont believe I should have to. SO GO fuck urself because what you dont understand is that the westend coppers in 008 that work, take offense to comments like yours!!!!!.....whereas the "DOG" does NOT! I'm an 008th dist copper and you my fellow "police officer" can go to hell.YOU do nothing to further your cause by degrading fellow policemen, calling us "do nothins"????,why dont you put helpful information on here for us to read like suspicious activity coming from a house down the block. Why because you probably dont have an eye for crime so leave the real police work for US!!! ORRR come show us how its done JAGOFF. Come deal with our back logs, denied lunches and have to clean up the mess of drunkin odpo who steps in shit at home or with a neighbor and demand we clean it up! come walk in our shoes...............FROM A PROUD 008 DISTRICT POLICEMAN who would take a bullet for you who denouce us.

To our brother from COLORADO: As someone who went through the process from out-of-state, there are a couple things: First, your time elsewhere means nothing, and you will be unable to buy into the pension. There is a bill pending to change that, but only for Illinois agencies at this time. For all the politics and headaches, there are still many things CPD has to offer-including dozens of units. (big change from 6 officers doing everything under the sun) You will have to put your time in (18 months of probation to start) before you can move around. Regardless of what you read on here, if you work your ass off you can actually go where you want over time. Also, while the promotion process is far from perfect or fair, if you study very hard you can make it. The department is less corrupt than it was 20 years ago, and hopefully it will get better as time goes on. I think the city web site shows the next written test. Once you pass it you'll have to come back for the psych, fitness and physical tests. When I took it they were all given seperate dates, weeks apart. They gave me 2 weeks notice to start the academy, and you need an in-city address the day you start. You can defer once or twice if you need more time. Good luck!

Hey Colorado Guy 01/09/2007 08:08:22 PM:
If you feel like you want to come to Chicago and take this job, give it a try...most of the posters on this site (I'm assuming they're coppers) use this blog as a place to blow off some steam and beef a little. Where else can we b*tch and hardly have to worry about any consequences. If this job was so horrible, don't you think you'd be hearing about mass resignations? This is one of the few jobs that people file lawsuits over in order to get their jobs back if they get fired. The two biggest drawbacks about being a Chicago Police is the clout b*llshit that gets flaunted about if you don't have it and being limited to living in the City. If you can deal with that, fundamentally it's not bad. But if your looking for a big city to resettle in and be the police are you sure LA or Las Vegas might not be better? Anyway, good luck.

I would stay as far away from Chicago as possible.

My biggest complaint is the 6 day work week and having to live in the city. If you do move back for this job be prepared to drop at the least 300,000 for an average house and if you have children be prepared to drop $$$ on private schools. I would look into phoenix or Vegas before moving here. I am pretty sure they have better pensions & benefits plus you still get the big city experience

8:08 PM (Colorado Cop)

With all due respect for the opinions of 11:30 PM and 2:46 AM, due to corrupt politicians with a stranglehold on police management, the CPD is the most politically corrupt big-city police department in the nation.

Unless you have extremely low expectations with few or no other career options, I'd urge you to consider employment elsewhere, be it in law enforcement or otherwise.

As a frequent visitor to the beautiful Colorado Rockies, you may not realize the quality of life you may currently enjoy.

My heart goes out to current CPD officers with talent, integrity, intelligence and ambition who are deeply vested into their pensions. It's meaningless. CLOUT IS EVERYTHING!

Please stop. Zalewski, Lapinski and Cline all live on 811, if the threee of them jokers can't get police service out here on the westend, who can? I got an in with a 008th dist gang team guy and all I do is call him when I have a problem. It gets solved. I can't imagine what would happen if I called 911 for immediate service though.
And to the 11:12.28 Poster:
I am so very glad that you can site one (1) incident wherein the 008th Dist personnel did their job close to the westend, (courts are at 47th Cicero).
Beat 811 and Beat 812 are both too large for one Beat car to handle. The demographics on those bts. has changed dramatically in the last 20+ yrs and the beats need to be realigned. Bt. 811 and 812 need to stay on their beats and not get reassinged. It is just too large an area to cover effectively from a distance. Plus, I pay my taxes and deserve the police service.
Why should I have to wait for my beat car to come from 67th and Western? Keep doing the fine job you are in 008 office - IT IS NOT ENOUGH!

You're full of shite! Maida is no hack. A nice guy and a great copper.

Zalewski is part of the problem. Consult the following:

Zalewski enriches himself by using his "consulting" company to milk a few bucks from the 23rd ward - http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20050505/ai_n14622071

Zalewski supported the appointment of Todd Stroger -
http://secure.votetony06.com/news/contentview.asp?c=34960

Through connections with convicted felon and ex-City Clerk James, Laski, Zalewski placed relative on the city payroll:
http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20050418/ai_n14594754

In working with Chuck Maida, I've come to know him as a hard-working officer that would be a friend to the police and an honest alderman.

If you are the police and live in 008, you need to vote for Maida.

who is that female ET with the pock marked with the dyed white hair? At the Christmas party she not only embarrassed the unit but definitely embarrassed the department by getting drunk and letting old male ET's grab her breasts at the party while others took pictures. So much for bringing our wives to a nice party where they get to meet our co-workers. Sorry, Wives. Professional Females Officers don't act that way!
