The First Homicide

General consensus appears to grant the 011th District the dubious "honor." As we understood it, it is the first RD number pulled for an act committed during the early portions of the calendar year. Story coverage at Channel 7 and the Tribune.

Did Harrison/Fillmore win the total for the year also? We ended up about 15 ahead of last year - does this mean that the Department and political administration have finally hit on the right combination of surveillance cameras and manpower shortages by which they can "control" the outside factors that contribute to the homicide rate?

Because we were just wondering if we'd finally see some reinforcements at some point - someone told us that they were going to run a class of 200 through the Academy this month to make up for larger than expected retirements this spring.

On behalf of all the detectives in the 73rd Squad, Brownsville, Brooklyn, we extend our congratulations to our brethren in the 11th District, Area 4. You beat us by ten hours plus.

Wait 'til next year!

Harrison/Fillmore? Methinks it's Harrison/Kedzie, yes? 011th District/Area 4? Fillmore Rangers? Why is this tag still utilized? All the Fillmore "Rangers" are either retired or 6 feet under. Stop the nonsense....

SCC:

Don't you dare call us "Harrison". It's
F-I-L-L-M-O-R-E, the last two letters being optional.

the rule is: the first person to die as a result of an act committed in the new year is the first homicide. the person stabbed in 007, happened in 2006. the person shot in 011, was shot in 2007.

I hope the crime skyrockets. Cline is so full of shit it stinks. Now he can retire because violent crime is down? aren't homicides up? Isn't that violent? by the way phil, and any other boss reading this, the morale is terrible. S.O.S. and all other units should not do shit, the Department don't care about anything. They promote the most useless people. Merit? You got to be kidding. At least they should not be completely useless, promote the real fucking police!

Should not persons killed by the police (handgun violence) be counted in the homicide count for the city???

On New Year's morning at 0100 hrs., police are dispatched to a densely wooded area where they find a partially decomposed, dismembered and decapitated human body with multiple and obvious gun shot wounds to the back. This homicide victim was found in the 026th Dist. The case is clearly a homicide.

Then some ten hours later, a victim is fatally shot during an armed robbery in the 027th Dist.

Which district get the dubious distinction of being the first reported homicide of the new year? 026 or 027?

Just as in "whore", "door" and "four", the letter "r" is silent in FILLMORE.

I now this doesn't change the rules but it's an interesting note...A couple years ago, (I think 2004) dude got beat to a coma on New Years Eve. Cline and Daley were ecstatic that the homicide number for the year was 599. Well, dude died several months later. Do you think they changed the number of those homicides for that year plus one?... Nope

UCR only counts murder and non-negligent manslaughter. That does not include accidental or justifiable homicides.

Next question?

We don't hide behind 5084's, it's easier to upgrade than downgrade, if it turns out it's a 0110 it gets re-classified.

The homocide rate in the 005th dist went up this year. A big struggle for gang narcotics and who will sling it for them. Need more surveillance trucks.

!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Mr. Nimrod, that makes THEM
Fillmore rangers.

If you didn't work out of the
station on fillmore you are NOT
a Fillemore ranger.
You work in eleven.

Before you throw out the Mr. Nimrod statement go back and look at my post. Try like hell to break through your poor education and read the whole post. I Never claimed to be a Filmore ranger. I was merely correcting an incorrect statement posted earlier (which I posted with my comment)that stated that all Filmore rangers were either retired or 6 feet under.

By the way
Blow me asshat

A correct answer, but for the wrong reason. It does not matter to the stats people when the RD number is pulled or what UCR code is used. It is the time the victim is pronounced that determines which death in the above instance is the first. A victim is not "dead" until he/she is pronounced dead. The victim in 026 would have been pronounced before the victim in 027 was even shot. To go a step further, if a person was shot at 0200 hrs on New Year's Eve(Agg Batt RD)died later, and was pronounced at 0001 hrs on New Year's Day, that homicide would count for the new year, not the previous year. That victim would probably be the first homicide for the new year. Time of death is the determining factor. Check with the stats people at 35th St if you still have any doubts.
