The Steroid Era

  • Mark McGwire's Hall of Fame bid was met with a rejection as emphatic as his upper-deck home runs. While the door to Cooperstown swung open for Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn on Tuesday, McGwire was picked by less than a quarter of voters -- a result that raises doubts about whether Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa or other sluggers from baseball's Steroids Era will ever gain entry.
Should there be any justice in the game, these charlatans will never receive entry into the Hall of Fame. As much as the constant labor struggles turned of a huge segment of the population off of the game of baseball, the blatant cheating of the late 80's and 1990's did more to sour us on the game than anything else did.

Why? what do we go to a game for? Fans want to see one of two things: somebody whacking the shit out of a ball, or someone stopping them from doing it. Do we really care if they get help? These guys still work out far more than the baseball players of yor, they deal with a faster pitch, bigger ball parks, and higher mounds. Not to mention the pressure that fans and the press put on them. They make millions of dollars for what? To put on a show. if they take something to make the show better, so what? if they are willing to take the consequences, cancer, whatever, then God bless. At least when I spend a hundred to take my kid to the game, it will be a good show.

Thank God that Juicing zit faced freak didn't get in. The Canseco book was dead on, but nobody wants to admit how right he was. As for the electees I say congrats. They both deserve it. Both are true ambassadors of the game. The only shame is that Gossage and Dawson didn't get in either. The Players Comitee should elect Blyleven. The guy had 285 victories and is top 20 in Ks, how he's not in the Hall is truly a mystery.

When will the dept. start testing for roids? The 025 tact and gang teams are all addicted to such drugs.

So if that's your position SCC, I'd like to ask if a cop found to be on steroids should have to give back awards, commendations, etc. he has won?

Apples and oranges friend. Coppers aren't taking steroids to make millions of dollars hitting and chasing a ball around entertaining millions of people. These are performance enhancers and who do coppers have to entertain?

It's kind of a goofy question. We wish that we had a "last chance" type intervention for coppers unfortunate enough to be addicted to narcotics like the CFD does. But that is a subject for contract negotiations

steroids are baseball's version of merit promotions.

coppers on steroids can be fired!!! if the right exempt wants that person tested....remember roid heads i know your self esteem is so low and no-one liked you in high school, but steroids are an illegal narcotic and you can lose you job because of them. The funny thing is these roidhead freaks think that no one can tell they juice or if they swear "I don't juice!" that people actually believe you get 26 inch arms naturally; dumbasses. I hope your livers and balls explode losers!! oh yeah don't forget to beat your wives and girlfriends!!!

Testing positive for steroids on this job is the same as for marijuana or cocaine-it just doesn't happen to be included in the piss test. If there is a reason to suspect you they can force you to submit to a test. And then you get fired-at which point you probably don't care what happens to your commendations.

I dont understand how you guys can be so cavalier about "roids......I've had them several times in my life and they make sitting in the squad car absolutely unbearable! Thank god for those preparation H wipes!

If a copper is found on steroids he gets fired, so the awards are all he gets to keep.

Mcguire hit roughly 583 home runs. At what point did he ever test positive for steroids? I do believe he took them. A lot of players did and most we will never know about. If you don't want cheaters in the Hall of Fame, which by the way, is not run by MLB but is a separate institution, take our Phil Neikro(sp?) and Gaylord Perry. Both admitted to cheating and Neikro got caught doctoring the ball. What about all the "great" football players that used and were never caught and are now in the Hall of Fame? Stop being niave about professional, college, or high school sports. The athletes use them and will always find a way to, as long as you are willing to spend the money to watch. Its entertainment, nothing more.

to 1:20:30 AM. Actually the players of today play in smaller ballparks and a lowered mound you stupid fuck. The hitters have been helped out huge. Get your facts right. Baseball is a sport not a show. Sosa, McGuire and Bonds have made a mockery out of the greatest game ever. Fuck them. If you want to spend 100 to take your kid to a "show" go see the lion king or a chorus line.

Dated a guy who took steroids. He looked great both in and out of clothes. As for the rest, well, let's just say "Mr. Happy" couldn't get happy.
