We're going to summarize a few comments that caught our eyes in the various comment sections:

- The "victim" has been named as a gang member in a number of comments and it's been reported so by a number of news outlets. BUT, we are noticing more and more of the news reports are deleting that allegation. One outlet has even posted a variation on the "innocent altar boy" theme saying that the "victim" can always be found playing saxophone at his church. This media whitewashing is especially troubling.
- The Officer was the subject of a hit attempt, the cause of a Zero Tolerance operation against a street gang, and continues to have a price on his being wounded or worse. His kid has been the victim of a number of confrontations, assaults and attacks.
We've also heard the "victim" didn't live in the neighborhood and the Officer has been praised by neighbors as always looking out for everyone.
We don't purport to know which of the above is truth or rumor. We don't know what happened in that alley among which persons. We don't know anything for a fact at all. What we do know, and what we learned since an unfortunate incident much earlier in our career, is this simple advice:

That's it. Simple words, yet so often ignored. The second you lay hands on anyone, a case report should be generated, an arrest report completed and a TRR filled out. It is worrying that this doesn't happen as a matter of routine, but it would have saved a bunch of people some grief in recent incidents.

My fellow officers, what is so hard about the above phrase. Every time a copper get's into trouble it's for not doing paper. It doesn't matter if your on or off duty. The days of deny, deny, deny is as ancient as the call box.
We have evolved, in this day of technology, we too must evolve into a smarter police officer. Now I have over 18 years of experience and we must document everything. If I guy attempts to hurt you, you take him out and you lock him up. There is this belief that if you have to do paper it would take all you time. Well don't do the paper and you will lose much more than time.
If you have to put your hands on them - then they have to go to jail.

The officer involved is a great man, father and officer. Yes you are right he should have thrown the cuffs on the little piece of shit but sometimes when it gets so personal that it affects you emotionally we make mistakes. I sincerily hope the truth and what is just and right will prevail. I stand behind him 100% and anything he needs I will do.

1) this is the very reason we need to be able to raise our families OUTSIDE THE CITY OF CHICAGO.
2) I have seen too many SGT's that do nothing but bitch and moan, and threaten to take officers off of their cars because the officer needs to do a TRR, which requires the SGT to get off his ass and approve it.
If you need to do a TRR, then do it! Fuck the SGT who is too lazy to get off his ass, log on to a computer and approve a TRR.

With regards to the TRR and SGT who is a do nothing lazy ass fuck. As a Sgt. I agree there are a lot of lazy do nothing Sgt's. My Capt. gives me shit on TRR's because they are not done fast enough. Speaking of things getting worse in "Copland"...Yesterday after the Memorial parade ended at Ridge Park, a few 009th Dist officers asked several "Fightin' 022" coppers if they would mind driving them back to 110th Longwood to get their cars, so they could drive and get ready for work. The officers were members of the Windy City Veterans Organization of Chicago. These particular officers begin their watch at 1500hrs. Notice: Ridge Park is on 99th and Longwood-not too far from the desired location.
Long story short...the three Iraq combat veterans/fellow CPD brothers were told that they didn't have time to drive them over. Guess it was lunch time eh boys and girls?
Remember this ALL you 009th Dist coppers when some 022 copper decides to ask you for a favor going to the White Sox game. Don't give them an ounce of courtesy. To whomever posted this garbage you obviously don't work in 004.
The D/C, and all 3 captains do a tremendous job backing up their officers in all types of situations. And 90% of the Lt.s and Sgts. are there to do the same.
Hell, within the last couple months 004 had a 15 minute car chase that started and involved 004 officers. The bosses carried that, and a couple weeks ago we had the officer involved shooting. The bosses took care of there side of things on that too.
No clue who, what or why you caused you to think you can't get into any type of incident down in 004? Maybe you just need an excuse not to get into anything....

I will buy a ticket to your benefit hero. Everyone who said it before is right. If you do police work on or off duty, Drop paper! Just remember if you hit someone and let them go (after they know you are the police), you have just given them the opportunity to go out, get a lawyer, and begin prosecution against you, the dept, and anyone else they can think of. All this before you even think about protecting yourself. You lay hands on someone, drop paper, get your version out first and let them defend themselves at criminal court first. That way you are hiding nothing, you've done what the department demands you are accountable for, and your job is all that much more secure. Will you still get sued? probably yes, but you were acting under the "color of authority" and that goes a long way to indemnifying you to prosecution.

SAF WANTS MINISTER INVESTIGATED FOR THREATS AGAINST GUN DEALER
BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation is asking the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate a Chicago priest for threatening to “snuff” suburban Riverdale firearms retailer John Riggio during an anti-gun protest rally Saturday, May 26, near Chuck’s Gun Shop.
SAF founder Alan Gottlieb is sending a letter to Assistant U.S. Attorney General Wan Kim, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, asking that the agency also investigate the Rev. Michael Pfleger for essentially encouraging a crowd of about 200 protesters to drive Riggio out of business. The gun shop has been in business for more than 30 years, and Riggio is the second-generation owner.
In a stunning audio recording of Pfleger’s remarks, the pastor of St. Sabina’s Church can clearly be heard stating, “John Riggio…we’re going to find you and snuff you out.” Moments later, Pfleger added, “We’re going to snuff out John Riggio, we’re going to snuff out legislators that are voting…against our gun laws and we’re coming for you because we are not going to sit idly.”
“It is common knowledge that the term ‘snuff’ is street slang, in Chicago and elsewhere, for killing someone,” Gottlieb said after hearing the recording. “If John Riggio, or I, or any other gun owner were to make that kind of public statement in reference to Rev. Pfleger, you can bet the authorities in Chicago, and the local and national press, would want us behind bars.
“We’re asking for a Justice Department investigation,” he explained, “because Rev. Pfleger incited his audience to take whatever action is necessary to put Mr. Riggio out of business. Chuck’s Gun Shop is a legal business, operating under both state and federal laws, and Mr. Riggio has a legal right to operate such a business.
“We simply can’t rely on the notoriously anti-gun Cook County prosecutor’s office for an unbiased inquiry,” Gottlieb said. “There is no doubt in my mind that Rev. Pfleger’s threats should be investigated. I agree that veterans and PO's deserve a higher degree of service, but part of your story doesn't add up.....the parade was over at noon, yet you say this was a 1500 start car that refused the ride at 99th and Longwood Drive. If it was a 1500 start car, they were not out on the street until 1545 or so, given roll call.
You wouldn't have been drinking in the park with the veterans (you know, the guys with the tent and two kegs along the Rock Island tracks behind the old fieldhouse), and been told you're not driving drunk today. We already have too many drunk cops driving around the area every night. The walk back to your car might have saved your life, get some air into you.
How can I check and review past TRRs? I have looked on the entranet but nothing can be retrieved. Any suggestions?

Apparently you must of had a few too many yourself. The P.O.s that were looking for a ride had a 1500 start, the officer they asked was a 2nd watch officer, and they asked at around noon for the ride, when the copper told them "sure in a few minutes." Then the copper stood across the street with his back to the off duty P.O.s for a good fifteen minutes until they left. Then the jackass seeing the P.O.s walk away jumped in his squad and took off.
Bottom line: you can't knock out a 15 year old and then walk away! I don't care what the little shit may have done, you CAN NOT walk away after breaking his face and not expect to face some repercussions. I hope the guy ends up all right, but face it, he fucked up.
And pleae don't try and tell me that the kid let someone else break his jaw just to set up the copper...

I also live in your area and agree! Your right why don't ric flair let more tac guys work the west end? Simple he does not live there! Looking back at my many years in Englewood when everyone there used to say shit about me, (Same shit 15 years later) Hard work and getting you ass out of the car puts shitbags in jail. If your driving through the 008th District and happen upon Mike Or Sean you will find them doing there job having some shitbag stopped. Most of us came on this job ready to go runnin gunnin and part one-in. Most of you who read this blog have run out of steam in that area in you second year on the job. And for those who speak Ill of the Campbell Bros, when you do as much work in a week as they do in an hour, then you almost have the right to lick the sweat off there balls.

yeah, we've got guns.. and the powers of arrest, and the day you decide you're going to drive around for 8 1/2 hours a night solving everyones problems and running toward the sound of the guns instead of away from it, then you can go through the academy and get your gun and arrest powers. Police are supposed to be empowered for a reason, because we may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrafice in the line of duty as many have, but instead of appreciating these facts, the media, along with the general consensus wants to crucify the entire department over a few reprehensible acts commited by even fewer off duty police. Its exactly this type of mentality that makes us want to do the bare minimum which would result in a lot of 'reporting' on our behalf but a lot less actual protecting or solving crimes. Apparently thats what society wants though with your warm and fuzzy police bullshit. All it takes is an accusation nowadays to get a jagoffs name in the paper alledging another 'rogue cop'. Its bullshit and we all know that, but with that being said... I know there's those of you out there that are still doing the right thing. Not just handling your job but going out to find the criminals before the commit the crime or even catching them in the act instead of waiting for it to be reported. I've got news for you. EVERY Chicagoan who isn't a cop, DICK Daley or an alderman not only takes his life in his hands EVERY time he steps out of the house, he does so when he stays at home too. Remember, only highly trained "professionals" like Alvin Weems and Tony Abbate get to have guns in Apartheid Chicago. You may not have heard, but 911 is a communications system of variable reliability, NOT a matter transporter which instantly deposits Jon Burge between the caller and whatever peril confronts them. EXPERIENCE tells me that the Chicago PD may not WANT to protect any given individual from a threat. COMMON SENSE tells me that in most instances they CAN'T do so, whether they want to or not.
I actually have a modicum of trust in my local PD. They don't murder people. They don't beat up women. They don't start fights in bars. I don't know if they steal, but they sure don't do home invasions. They even have a fairly good response time. That having been said, only a fool would place his life in their hands. The last time I called them, they came FAST... just not fast enough to stop somebody from beating, stabbing or shooting me to death. And as I said, I kind of trust them. The Chicago PD? Not so much...

I don't see where that much has changed, as far as that part of the CPD is concerned. I even see the D/C responding to calls, even coding a few of them out! I've worked with a few old timers who tell me they never heard or saw that before when they were new
cops! I can honestly say I have yet to have a bad day at work.
3rd watch is great in 003. Lots of good people I've learned a lot from. A lot of guys from my class are doing a lot worse in some of the other districts, having a hard time finding anybody who wants to work.
