Die Already You Miserable Prick

This lovely story from Channel 7:
  • The inmate who's been in prison longer than anyone else in Illinois is up for a parole hearing this week.

Seventy-eight-year-old William Heirens was sentenced to three back-to-back life terms for crimes he committed in the 1940's. He's spent 61 years in prison.

Heirens was convicted of the 1945 killings of two Chicago women and the 1946 kidnapping, dismemberment and murder of a six-year-old girl.

He was 17 years old when he entered the Cook County Jail. In his time in prison he became the first Illinois prisoner to earn a degree while in jail.

On Thursday, the Illinois Prisoner Review Board will decide if Heirens is rehabilitated enough for release.

In jail for 61 years and no one has ever shanked this piece of excrement? The fawning profiles we saw all over the news today turned our stomachs. And now he's eligible for release?

Hey Prisoner Review Board? Guess who isn't around to give testimony about poor William Heirens? Two Chicago women and a 6 year old girl. Let this bastard die in prison. Sometimes, society needs its vengeance. Too bad dying in prison is the best we can hope for.

Hmmmm, lets see, cost to house this jag for 61 years is probably in excess of 2 million dollars. Cost of a bullet 61 years ago, probably 5 cents.
Not to mention that the free health care he gets helped him to live into his 70's while many who chose not to be criminals are stuck without healthcare and probably wont make it to 70 as a result. Sickening.

SCC left out important parts about Heirens. During his last arrest he was armed with a .25 automatic and pointed it at the officers responding to the burglary call. Heirens was a busy burglar and that’s never been disputed. Heirens did two juvenile stretches in Catholic boy's homes for earlier burglaries.

Heirens passed the CPD polygraph administered by Keeler and Reid when they believed the machine was full proof. The real interrogation practices of the CPD dicks in 1946 made the Burge allegations seem like a picnic.

There was no security video or DNA and at the murder scenes police found no physical evidence connecting Heirens to the three murders. In addition a convicted child molester sitting in the Cook County jail confessed to killing little Susan Degnan. I know because I located and interviewed his surviving children living in Austin, Texas, for ABC news in the mid-1990s.

Heirens was just a kid and had a 1946 jury convicted him of these murders he’d have exhausted his appeals and gotten fried extra crispy style in the Cook County Jail’s old electric chair within months, not years.

Yes, I have serious doubts that Heirens ever killed anyone. I also suggest that 61 years later with a perfect prison record that there should be some redemption for the burglaries that were never in dispute. We don’t execute burglars and people that point guns at cops. I never knew too many cops that did not at least fire shots at people pointing guns at them. Was there some exaggeration here about that?

We all were amazed that Heirens, a White man lived in prison without being killed despite his rap as a notorious baby raping/killer. Who among us would choose to serve 61 years in the Illinois prison system over a quick death?

Heirens’ life was destroyed for sure and now that feeble old wheelchair bound man threatens nobody.

I say put a really dangerous younger man in Heirens cell for a very long time instead. Heirens can die in a nursing home.

The fact is William Heirens we knew was killed many decades ago by the system right or wrong.

Hey Paul , I never thought you were a die hard super liberal that would take up the fight for this dirty rotten no good piece of shit. He does not deserve to die in a nursing home . He deserved to die 61 years ago when in fact he was convicted of the crime. You say you talked to the survivors of the person you think did it. Yeah right ,they new everything about
it. Just let this prick die in prison where he should have died 61 years ago in the fuckin' electric chair.

hey crimefile why dont you take your liberal minded opinions and shove it straight up your ass. i dont think your on the right blog. lets just say your right for a minute. ok, an active burglar pointing a gun at police at 17, you better damn well believe he commits murder by 23, no doubt about it. him being in prison had prevented hundreds of people from becoming victims of this savage. so he's right where he belongs. so take your bleeding heart elsewhere.

Snethen say's....crimefile!! What the hell are you smoking? I suppose that when Charles Manson gets old we can just put him in an old folks home and let him die in a nice clean bed. Contrary to what you say, I have arrested people that have pointed guns at me and put them in jail without shooting them or even beating their ass. Doesn't happen too often but it happens. A jury in 1946 thought this guy should stay in jail until he is dead, unless you or anybody else was at that trial and know different, this prick is right where he belongs. Even better, maybe we should wheel his bed to the front gate of the pen, let him get a look at the outside world and slit his throat!

Paul,
The Sun Times story states he wrote a 19 page confession (after 6 days of interrogation with “truth serum” and without an attorney of course) is there a possibility that he knew just "to many details" that no one else would know?

Is there a book that has been written about this murder?

.......................................................................................Well you are definitely an expert on subject, but as you know people on death row /or sitting for life or 60 years etc, often confess to murders/crimes they did not commit. The reasons they do it are many and varied. Attention breaking a routine notoriety. I’m not a psychologist but I do know that much. At this point Heirens dying in jail might serve a greater good. See others will see the miserable dead end of being a criminal, or at least makes us feel good.

Dear Crimefile: Well said!!! Even w/o doing all of your legwork, I too have wondered for a long time whether Heirins is indeed guilty of the Degnan murder. To my knowledge he's always denied it, and as you say there was no evidence at the time tying him to the scene. Given the number of wrongly convicted people that have been found on death row, I think its time we released him.

I knew I’d catch holy Hell from most of my friends at SCC for my position on Heirens. Heirens deserved decades in the pokey for his burglaries and his pointing a gun at some copper, if that really happened. We also know how many fewer tools police had to solve murders in 1946. Was he the real killer? Maybe…

If Heirens really murdered and dismembered Suzanne Degnan the death penalty would have an acceptable resolution. Of course the Supreme Court outlawed capital punishment for crimes committed by juveniles. Heirens would have been 16 at the time of the Degnan murder.

I’ve always been one to separate juvenile serious crimes from the same acts by adults. I also really believe we all change over our lifetimes. Today’s Heirens is not the same person. Nobody is the same 61 years later.

We all know that if Chicago Cops used the tactics used on Heirens today on a suspect they’d get the prison terms and the suspects would be millionaires.

I’m no liberal but I believe in the Bill of Rights. One only has to look ay Michael Mette’s case to see how things go wrong.

If they let Heirens out now to a nursing home we will all still be alive. Perhaps another younger killer locked up in Heirens’ prison cell may really save someone’s life.

Right now on my blog there’s some great information and links to many photos and the when, where, who and how according to the newspapers of that day.

For the boys and girls at the CPD, do your job well as you lock up the bad guys. Stay safe!

Judith Mae Anderson's body was found cut up and in a barrell in about 1956. It was similar to the Degnan crime. Was the guy still out there 10 years later? I don't think they ever found who did it.
Could Heirens really be innocent??

In Hollywood I've been wanting to get adopted by two hot young lesbiams. That's as Gay as I'll ever get!

I know the Heirens case would make a great feature film. It's an incredible story to say the least. I'd love nothing better to gather needed information and work with a couple of Hollywoods best writers producing this saga as a film.

Some young actor would be instantly turned into a major star playing a young Heirens. Heirens was a bizare and twisted fellow for sure but I don't thing he murdered anyone.

The newspaper folks were well over the top with their stories about Heirens. Those were the days that reporters were always invited into crime scenes by police.

HEY CRIMEFILE- A burglar with a gun. Why would an ordinary burglar carry a gun? Because he wasn't a burglar. He was more and convicted of it.
The criminal justice system back then beleived in rehabilitation.
Certain cases dont warrent the rehab idea. This is one of them. It only takes a couple pounds of pressure to pull a trigger. He is still capable too do that.
His victims don't get a chance of parole, so fuck him. We will still pay for his health care regardless if he's in prison or not. He deserves to die in prison.

Crime File your absolutely pathetic with your dribble. He was convicted. His appeals failed.
You even go so far as to say people change. That would imply that you believe that if he did do it he has served enough time. If that was your dauther killed would you feel the same way?
As the son of a slain Chicago Police Officer I find your comments ignorant. I can't believe you were ever a police officer.
As a victim our pain never goes away. We DONT GET PAROLE HEARINGS ASSHOLE. Now all the papers attention is on this scumbag. How about the murdered little girl? What was she like? We know all about this shitbag. He was the first prisoner to get an education. SO fucking what!!! Time doesn't heal our pain. We just learn to live with it. My fathers killer has come up for parole every year since 1985. Maybe you think he has served enough time also.
You don't get to retry this case. THE SCUMBAG DESERVES THE SENTENCE. THREE LIFE SENTENCES. That equates to death in prison. That's a pretty light sentence compared to the victims fate.

On Jan. 7, 1946, Suzanne Degnan, age 6, 5943 N. Kenmore Ave. was kidnapped, raped, murdered and dismembered. Her body parts were later found in four sewers near Thorndale and Kenmore.

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. Second, I could not agree more. This 'man' killed two, maybe three people. If we give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he wasn't the murderer of that poor child, which is one of the most heinous crimes I've heard about in these recent years, he still murdered two others. For that reason, and that reason alone, he should spend the rest of his life in prison. Who effing cares if he's rehabilitated? Those victims are STILL in the ground and those families are STILL wishing they had their loved ones in their lives. He deserves to stay in jail - plain and simple.
